      I literally just had this conversation in my head. Though, I had my windows open... so they probably could hear it.
      (My neighbor blasts shitty rap music all day, so I don't give a fuck what he thinks. I'll make him listen to Wolfkreig next)

    This band is proof that you don't have to have a vocalist who sounds like he gargled with battery acid to be metal.

      My thoughts exactly. I prefer to listen to things I can understand. Not gibberish like most metal singers release from their mouths.... it was Tyr who restored my faith in metal.

      There's a huge difference between the good screams of Metal bands like System of a Down or Miss May I and the growls of bands like Cannibal Corpse. I much prefer the former to the latter

    I was reading through some comments on here about religion and I just had to add my 2 cents. I was raised Christian and then I grew up and realized I could choose which fairy tales to believe. Die hard Christians should really take a long, hard look at their own history. The Romans saw an opportunity to use religion to control the masses and here we are 2000 years later still believing (some of us) in all the same BS. You do all realize that every single Christian holy day is a bastardization of a pagan ritual, right? Jesus was 'miracuously" born during Yule, the period of time around the winter solstice celebrating the rebirth of the sun. Or was it just a convenient way to get more people to convert? Then, Jesus goes and dies and is "resurrected" in the spring around the Vernal Equinox when pagans celebrated the resurrection of life in general after a long, difficult winter. How about All Saints Day? Or, as ancient peoples referred to it, Samhain, the time of harvest and the onset of winter. Don't you see it's all been a mirage to obtain, and maintain, power? How else do you keep millions, and now billions, of people in check? Tap into their deepest, darkest fears about life and death and promise them eternity if they behave. In all honesty, I don't care if you are Christian or Jewish or Hindu or Islamic. Believe what you want. That is one right everyone should have. Just never, ever tell me what I should, or shouldn't believe, and we'll all live happily ever after.

    The norse would never be forgotten, their influence are a part of so many things.
    Thor, Lord of the rings, ( see rohan, elves, the languages, trolls etc), beowulf etc etc etc.
    They might not accurately depict norse culture but skyrim doesn't either.. The only way to witness norse culture is to travel or read.

    I always interpret "just take me to Valhalla" as a challenge. One got into Valhalla by dying in battle, so telling christians to "just take me to Valhalla" is daring them to fight. That's just my interpretation.

    A serious 'fuck you' to those who expect you to be constantly in misery for the sake of a religion, when real religion is about spirituality and happiness and love. The following of Valhalla is much more true to the real reason for religion than most religions are.

    Faith has more than one meaning. It can just mean complete trust or confidence (this causes arguments and confusion when arguing with believers, but that doesn't mean the definition is wrong). Although science is fallible, it still makes sense to trust the results of science more than anything else, so "faith in science" can be correct.
    I'm not necessarily saying the above poster holds that position, but the principle of charity is important.

    I've just Googled it, and the first few sites all stated that it meant "Scandinavian." I would guess that it was originally the same as "North," and was changed at a later date. There's also the possibility that it did originally mean "from Norway" and was generalized to all of Scandinavia at a later date as well.

  • @xenomemphate
    @xenomemphate 11 років тому

    The actual definition of faith is "Complete trust or confidence in someone or something" so I am pretty sure that scientists to operate on terms such as faith...just because most of the time the word faith is used to refer to religion doesn't mean that is its only (or even main) definition.

      zTundra This is simply a load of crap.
      Christianity played a huge part in the dead of the most advanced Nation of the Ancient times, Rome. {As the Religion taking over caused a massive backlash from its population and an even larger on from the Germanic, Slavic and other tribes, which you can clearly see during the Barbarian Invasions, Religion played a major part in this, Roman Paganism was rather accepting and mainly merged with the Pagan Religion of the tribes, while Christianity enforced itself.}
      Pagan peoples were Frankly more advanced then, Christian People during the Dark ages. Take Gaul, Greece, Rome, Persia, Egypt, Germania, Scandinavia as an example. Rome actually adopted a shitload of customs and crafts{especially Ironwork} from the Gauls.
      The only thing Christianity improved was pseudo uniting the Many tribes under a banner of Religion. But with the amounts of blood this was done, it is not really an improvement.
      But as I said, Pagan Rome and such were far more advanced then Christian Europe, it was only at the renaissance and somewhat before it where that Pagan Roman influence returned and Christianity started losing power that europe truly became the pinnacle of advancement.

    @maxximusss The Faroe Islands are about 170 miles directly north of Scotland, but not part of it, its part of Denmark, but is autonomous. They speak Faroese on the Faroes! Which is very similar to Old Norse, since they were a little isolated. Don't worry about it, I had never even heard of the Faroes when I found these guys.

    Why are there all these countless other sappy songs about angels and Heaven, but not enough songs about Valhalla and Valkyries?

      And why is this song called "valhalla" while he sings about idiots, who are unable to learn? This song is about facebook and twitter, not about valhalla and valkyries.

      You must not have heard much of Manowar, if their metal song isn't about metal, it's probably about Vikings
