Sang this under the shower last night, the water nozzle transformed into a north Sea winter storm, freezing sleet and snow, waves the size of mountains lashing my body.
I then turned the hot tap on and entered Valhalla.

    Lyrics: Týr - Stýrisvølurin
And whoever reigns these cliffs, did not defeat the wind
They held the tiller when the storm broke loose
"Steer into the wind," shouted one and united they
pulled the tiller, but all in vain
The course has been set, carved in stone
And are we satisfied when the tale is told
And does your ship advance regardless of what you want
They fought over the rudderless tiller
And still we hold the tiller as we
Think we are free, thrallborn unconsulted so
We all drift on the graveyard field
In desolate halls, about distant mountains
Drenched and weary by the northwestern
storm, and the winds rages in Midgard
To Asgard where the Ash stood, like the
threads of life then flapped in the breeze
We all drift on the graveyard field
In desolate halls, about distant mountains
And plains, knowing what goal we are capable of living
And destiny draws slowly, we drift to meet it
We all drift on the graveyard field
In desolate halls, about distant mountains
Well aware of the course of destiny but it is
comforting that choice is before us
    Countless your possible courses, but
discomforting that the choice has been made,
    only one course
The course has been set, carved in stone
And are we satisfied when the tale is told

The beauty of really good music is that it doesn't matter what language it's in, you feel it, and understand it anyway. Timeless, and amazingly well written. \m/ \m/

I just love this band, especially when they´re singing in Faroe language. I did get a bunch of goosebumps all over me first time i heard them (Hold The Heathen Hammer High) it´s a really good track that I can listen to over and over again, The video is really good too. Yes, you´re right, English isn´t my home language.

    • @JavainMuert
      @JavainMuert 9 років тому +3

Torbjörn Likvern it's a pity they don't take that much account to Faroese itself now, they said they're not a band for "obscure languages fans"

    • @JavainMuert
      @JavainMuert 9 років тому +1

thesatanic6 ya, you can check some Valkyria interviews where they say that ._.
I probably can't understand it the way you feel since you're icelandic and all, after all both language are pretty much alike and you'd wish good things to a brother.
I'm a linguistic fan, btw, and I started listening Týr because of Faroese. I don't think the English songs of theirs are that relevant. I listen to Skálmöld too for the same reason.

Hello Tyr, beautiful and love the spirit in the music and lyrics and tone of the singer's voice. I spent two years , stationed in Iceland back in 1982-1984. I miss it, this brings it back. So many places near Keflavik on the Southern coast are like this. I enjoyed it very much and the people.

I seriously recommend you going there. Very beautiful and the people in general appeared very nice. I'll probably try to go again next year and/or to G festival.

The lowest point is at sea level, and the highest is at Slættaratindur, which is 882 metres above sea level. The landscape made roadbuilding difficult, and only recently has this been remedied by building tunnels.
View of the west coast of Suðuroy.
Many of the Faroese islands tend to be elongated in shape. Their appearance on a map looks like sliced bread.

The Faroe Islands are an island group consisting of eighteen islands off the coast of Northern Europe, between the Norwegian Sea and the north Atlantic Ocean, about half-way between Iceland and Norway. Its coordinates are 62°N 7°W / 62°N 7°W / 62; -7. It is 1,399 square kilometres in area, and includes no major lakes or rivers. There are 1,117 kilometres of coastline, and no land boundaries with any other country.

AS an American, I can tell you that you should not allow for the Americanization of your culture. You have such a profound culture. Hold onto it! Culture is a uniting factor. In America, we only say we are united, but disturbingly so, not many people can define how that is. Long live Norge. Racism is a copout, We are proud of our ancestors and our race; our Norse lineage.

Everything about this band is great. Folk Music lends itself to "Rocking up " so well, and not just European folk either. Sure, bands like Skyclad, Folkenbach and their Ilk come to mind, but any folk/rock fans should check out some of what is coming out of countries like Pakistan (Aag in particular) when traditional melodies and songs are fused with modern western metal influences to equally great effect.

@FruitiJack As for the inclusion of Finland, we were ruled by both Swedes and Russians, and our 2nd official language is still Swedish! The island of Åland is still mainly Swedish...Thus you could say we're part of the same cultural-linguistic group in at least some way, even though Finnish doesn't of course belong to the same language family...At least the identification is very strong from our part, i.e. west, not east.

however, i want to clarify that what i thought was so amazing is that svithjod, or sviðatjóð, was only a small part of what modern sweden is today. it was the area of uppland västmanland and södermanland more or less, the old lands of the svea-tribe . It was before they joined with götaland gotland småland and norrland etc (and later scania when it was taken from denmark). modern Sweden could theoretically have been called Gothen today but for a number of reasons the Swe-prefix was chosen.
