- The Arctic regions of Russia are commonly referred to as the "Far North". It consists of a large part of Russia, located mainly north of the Arctic Circle, which boasts enormous mineral and natural resources.

Due to the harsh conditions of the area, people who work there have traditionally been entitled by the Russian government to higher wages than workers of other regions. In this video, my main goal is to really understand what it is like to live in such a place, in one of the most remote areas of the largest country in the world - Russia.

The Far North is known for its extremely harsh climate. That is exactly why anyone who work there, other than indigenous populations who live far from Russian civilisation, receive an extra grade of payment, commonly referred to as the "Northern Bonus" (северные надбавки).
People in Arctic Russia also often receive additional benefits such as extra vacation, extra disability benefits, extra retirement benefits (a lower retirement age), and housing benefits, in compensation for the difficult working conditions. These compensation schemes began under the Soviet Union and has been maintained by the Russian Federation.
In my quest to set foot in every single federal subject in Russia, the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug was definitely one of them! Don't forget to follow me on Instagram for live updates @davelegenda 📷

In this video in particular, I stuck to the city limits of Salekhard, the capital of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. Getting there by land from Moscow was quite a feat, traveling by train through fascinating places such as Kirov, Ukhta, and Vorkuta. Navigate to my previous video to watch my adventure on the northernmost train in the world: • The Northernmost Train...
Salekhard is located in the Ob river valley and is an important river port of the Russian Far North.
In my previous video I travelled along the only section of the unfinished Salekhard-Igarka Railway that is still operating nowadays. Originally, the Salekhard-Igarka Railway was set to provide a rail connection between the Ob river port of Salekhard and the Yenisei river port of Igarka.
Currently, the nearest railway is at Labytnangi, on the opposite side of the river Ob. At these latitudes, there are no bridges on the river: for 9-10 months each year, the river is frozen and cars and trucks can cross via the river ice. In the summer a ferry operates, but in the in-between seasons, when the ice is drifting - generally shortly before the start and shortly after the end of summer, Salekhard is effectively isolated from the outside world. During these periods, only helicopters are able to reach Salekhard in case of emergency. - Розваги

And depressing...
Will you ever visit Finland? Your videos are awesome. Your Vyborg and Karelia videos were really good and interesting. Greetings from Finland. 🇫🇮
Such an underrated channel with high quality content. Keep it up, bro. Really appreciate your efforts. My fav channel other than Bald
Baldy's balls are not hard enough to visit regions like that))
Agree! I hope that you get much more subscribers!!!
Completely agree!
At least this guy is consistently uploading. Love Bald, but lately he hasn't been a reliable source for content.
Are you kidding? This is way better than Bald. Davide actually gives real information about the places he visits, not just Soviet this Soviet that.
Hello from France my friends 🇷🇺🇫🇷
I wanna know, do you guys get any black tourists? And how are they treated over there?
Привет из Салехарда) Приезжайте ещё🙂
i love the vids-super underrated content. i am genuinely curious though as to why you don't get a pair of waterproof winter boots to walk around siberia w?
I was about to say the same. Get the Russian Jordans that are arctic proof.
There is not a lot of videos on Northest parts of Russia...it is an admirable project...

Correction:
Taxi driver said jokingly "You should ask them!"
Not "You shouldn't ask that!"
Oh no! Hope my Russian teacher from university won't see this
I love your videos!:) I so much like your neutral attitude (one bald and bankrubt person might learn from you how to be respectful instead of making things a laughing stock!) yet at the same time your interest and courage to visiting places none of us normal tourists would never visit, i so much enjoy watching your videos! Thank you, sir!
Желаю удачи вам. Интересно было прогуляться с итальянцем по Салехарду. Здесь уже хорошие морозы, одевайтесь потеплее. 👍
Make Russia Christian again
This guy is the real deal. His passion for traveling is unmatched! Davide is the man!
Hello from Salekhard!!👍👍
Hello Friend! I am from Salekhard. I am very glad that you have come to our city!
дальше в тундру надо было поехать, на упряжке 😁
Great stuff, Dave. Love it! I had watched so much of Bald, who was great in his early days wandering around the former СССР, but I feel he lost his way and is now less interesting despite becoming famous. You are less well known, but much more worthy! Thank you, I’ll keep watching.
This channel deserves more views
People generally live there for work workers in the polar regions are allowed to retire early at the age of 50 and usualy retire in warmar areas of russia(this doesnt usually include the natives that prefer to remain)
Dave, love the content! But please ditch those jordans for a decent winter weather shoes, getting your feet wet in such conditions might lead to long term health issues. Again, the content is super awesome.
Yeah , he might get frostbite.
Banging content man ,thanks for this solid channel ,Spasiba
Thank You for great videos! Those subtitles are nice touch too, even when you speak english, it really helps for someone who tries to learn some russian language! Keep up the good work!
Love your videos!Much love and positive vibes to you!
Excellent vlog. Super interesting. Carry on. 👍
Thank you for your energy, your smiling disposition even with frozen feet ! Keep up the good work ..snd get yourself better shoes
Glad that your subscribers base is growing, when I first watched your video it was below 1k and now it's over 12k, I really hope to see you hit 100k and 1m later on.
Watched a couple of your vids now and love seeing the empty beauty of these Russian towns and the people, really enjoying watching these and look forward to more!
Its really cool what you're doing man
Your channel starts to grow 💪🏻 wich is quite nice! I follow you since you got around 5k.
Luckily i found your channel in UA-cam. I think you create a strong, nice, informative, funny and interesting content. Keep it like that!!
ps: i know that expensive in Russia, but in comparison with Chile, that´s half the price for the same meal in a regular restaurant 🥲
Bellissimo video! Bravo complimenti Dave :) ciao ciao
Your videos get better and better each time :)
Excellent and interesting content 👍
Btw thx for the English subtitles!
These are the best comments - when someone recognizes your hard work on subtitles WHICH TAKE FREAKING DAYS TO MAKE
Чувак, ты крут!!!
чувак, спасибо
Great work. Can you please consider showing us the full experience in each town such as the hotels, the rooms, the cost of food and hotel? I appreciate your content and where you choose to visit.
Needs to be a GoFundMe so Davide can get some proper shoes
love your videos man, am watching from verona italy
dave, i froze just looking at this video lol, coooooold
after I saw your video on Vorkuta I was interested to see your other videos in Russia, I subscribed to your channel!
Love your content (just discovered your channel), and seeing how some people survive in such extreme conditions.
What on earth possessed you to visit the arctic with only sneakers? OMG are you a crazy Italian!? 🤣🇬🇧
Dang it Dave do we need to buy you some decent (winter...Siberian) shoes?
Lolol
I don't see what makes you think I would need that
Amazing video and high quality channel,
Enjoy all your videos.
You should go to Pyramiden or Barentsburg. The Russian towns in norwegian owned Svalbard.
Sti video so na figata, continua così saluti da Roma!
Awesome video, you need boots tho! Sneakers ain't gonna cut it up there
Great insight into the Far North mate! Thanks for sharing! Crazy cold climate...but surprising warm people - and plenty of immigrants - interesting!
Ciao Davide,from Transylvania,Romania.
😊🍻
Have you ever watched "Happy People: A Year in the Taiga" directed by Dmitry Vasyukov, with English narration written and voiced by Werner Herzog? I remember the Ob river being in there. Overall this is a compliment as I find your content just as entertaining as Vasyukov/Herzog!
Keep it up. Your videos provide me with great entertainment and I enjoy your enthusiasm for what you're doing.
Also....dude....buy some winter boots!!! If funds are a problem I'll wire you the money for good boots. I live on Northern Canada and good boots are a necessity.
very nice video, Russian culture has always fascinated me and you make the best videos showing us Russia with your wonderful personality. You are very cute as well :} keep up the great work
Interesting as I live on a Caribbean island.
Yoo, great job 👍

So interesting man I want to visit.
Good video as usual. Where did you sleep in the end? Not the bus booth I hope :-P
Amazing
You are a super man Dave
Hello, nice video, even the others (Vorkuta...). You says:,, It is summer,, I expected that in summer it should be quite nice (colder) weather but no snow. What month you were there, please? I am asking, because I plan to go over the Ural mountains so this information made me a little bit nervous. Thank you and wish you happy journey!
Wow, bro🔥 I from Salekhard
How the hell do you still have feet after walking around in those shoes in those temperatures!
Love your channel. Would love to send you a proper pair of boots for these videos 💛
Curious about why you didn't wear winter boots... In the artic...
Сказать что удивлен, ничего не сказать. Зашел на ютуб, а тут итальянец что-то про родной город рассказвает
Hello from Labytnangi 🙃
Does anyone know what month did he go there . Im planning to go there at the end of december this year. Do you need special permit for visiting salekhard. Thanks
Серьёзно???нужно разрешение???😳
@@Yamal-89 Yes this is what tour agency is saying
Appena arrivato e immediatamente iscritto. Posso chiederti i sottotitoli in italiano? Continua così, ciao e alle prossime.
Holy shit as someone from buenos aires where it doesn't snow I can't imagine how I would survive the winter
I live there and it is pretty lonely :b
What date was it when you shot the video?
Yeesss Mioo Amiicoooool Agaainn!!! 💙👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Getting better. More views as well the madness grows!!.
Very interesting content, I like the way of showing it to us but one thing. I think you should avoid statements like: "we are as north as it can possibly get" in this video or "this is as far north as it can get", "Further north is only the north pole" (form Teriberka.) Everyone who looks at the map sees neither of these are true. I know beeing there is emotional but still far from the truth. Just a small detail. I don't like being lied to ;)
I would like to take a vacation for one month and travel there and sleep in warm bed. 🙄
Yo dave, saluti da Rimini! Di che città sei?
never go with sneakers in that cold cause you can loose a fingers
Great video but buy some waterproof winter shoes. It seems foolish to walk around in sneakers in the arctic :D
I remember from my geography lessons in the 60's, Ob, Yenissei and Lena am I correct?
That's right! The biggest rivers of Siberia
Аааа это мой город Салехард я тут живу 💗🤩
Why does he always wear Jordans in -10 degree weather? Should’ve learnt by now 😂😂😂
is this old recording because now its late autumn not summer ?
You should have been in labytnangi and another 20-25 kilometers to go to Kharp.
Я живу в Салехарде)
reindeer meet is really good when its cooked right. come in finland and eat PORONKÄRISTYS
I live in Salekhard for 9 years and I have never seen here a foreigner. I don’t how did you know about this town?
Салехард ! Нам кажется все очень простым, а приезжие что-то находят.
No way it's summer there lol
Oops, sorry to hear this Dave, don't mess with your health whatever you do, impossible to create content with a raging temperature...
Get some waterproof boots, I live in Canada cannot do winter without them.
Invest in boots! Wet feet in winter is never a "when in Rome" kind of thing. :)
Guuuyyyysss! :)
This is the second video I have watched where your shoes have not been the best choice... get some waterproof hiking boots!
How did you, as an Italian, like the pasta? haha
Just curious how are you able to afford to travel so much?
По-моему дешевле путешествовать по России, чем жить постоянно в Италии.
Bro, I live in street Archticheskaya. We can meet if you like)
Flexing with those jordans for 10th time
november is summer? nooh :D maybe in italy
Did you say “city buses” in a northern accent 😂😂😂😂
im from finland. and we are living in cold conditions . why do we have to pay money to italy for heating their houses?
Dave, that region was completely built in soviet times and that's why you see Lenin's statue and all those commie buildings in their.
Actually there's not one historic building there, they've built their quite recent, maybe some years after WWII
you can rent a flat or room in a babushkas house
You have to take proper shoes for such conditions.
Salehard.?
Dave, are you trying to die early ? Get proper footwear for the climate (before you go to the Arctic) so you can safely walk around !!!!
PS --- I like these Vids !!
Ever the fashion victim Hahaha.. as seen in other videos.
This is not the height of summer. The trees are not in leaf. Summer should be considered by the climactic conditions and not traditional season periods in other parts but locally to be more accurate and nature
Che strana la vita, siamo nati nel paese più bello del mondo eppure la curiosità ci spinge ad appassionarci a posti infernali come questi ahahahah.
