- In this video I set off to the very north of Russia looking for the legendary Nenets people, who roam around the Siberian tundra in temperatures as low as -50 degrees.

The Nenets people are native to the lands north of the Ural Mountains, and their whole culture rotates around the chums - their tents where they live in the white Arctic tundra. The chums are really similar to the typical North American teepee - only that you can find them in the middle of the snow in Arctic Siberia, where temperatures reach as low as -40 and -50 degrees.

The climate in Arctic Russia is notoriously extremely harsh, but the Nenets are used to it - as they have been nomadic for thousands of years.
The curious bit is that Nenets, although they are used to live very far off civilisation, they are still very much attached to Russian society - they are, after all, Russian citizens. They all have Russian passports and they somehow even manage to take part in elections.
In my quest to set foot in every single federal subject in Russia, the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug was definitely one of them! Don't forget to follow me on Instagram for live updates @davelegenda 📷

You have a nice accent when you speak Russian with people)
Would love to see that. Subscribed!
@@maxwellsmith9045 I am Russian and therefore it seems like a nice accent) But English subtitles also help to understand it in English
Nomad = кочевник.
You deserve atleast a million subscribers!
Yes bro
kush hatkar slowly but surely...
I know right 👏🏻
He sure does
I couldn't agree more! He is amazing
That's a phenomenal series, rogazzo! So glad youtube finally recommended me a true find like you.
awesome channel man ! love the experience, big hugs from Brazil
I love your passion for geography and culture, Dave... More of these videos please!
Super cool learning about the Nenets! Thanks!
Come over and visit us over here in Alaska. 😁
Yes Dave! Just got into bed and gonna watch this adventure keep up the good work Grazie!
In North America, indigenous people live in so called reservations. In Russia, indigenous people have their own republics.
Tell that to the Chechens and the tatars who were brutally persecuted by Stalin and deported to gulags 🤣
Fantastic video again so informative.
Great videos... Thanks for the english subtitle in your video bro ❤️❤️
Cold Russia
dovresti fare un video in italiano
It's funny that you have a pretty typical Italian accent in English, but none of it in Russian. You still have a slight accent when you speak Russian, and some grammar points and word choices give you away immediately, but pronunciation-wise you're much better than Bald and Bunkrupt or Tall Traveler, for example.
His Italian accent while speaking English is part of his charm!!
I live in Salekhard and I realized right away that he filmed this video in the spring, at the very beginning of the video there are such stick-shaped lanterns, well, now there are other lanterns, in winter and summer it looks much better than in spring
That coat is almost big enough for me!
Fun fact: american Indian teepee were much much smaller before the Spanish brought horses to America.
Horses allowed for hauling of larger teepee poles. Before horses dogs were used.
Absolutely phenomenal video mate. Love it, way better than Bald and Bankrupt
Come on, no shade throwing. There is a place in the chum for all the ex-Soviet bloggers.
@@tally1604 I’m not throwing shade I’m just saying he’s better than Bald and deserves to more success than him
7:15 i would pay good money to take one of those coats home with me. Incredible garments.
The word you're looking for is migriruyut, not dvigayutsya, when you want to say 'migrating Nenets families.'
Molto bene Davide. Well done Davide. The life of Russia's ethnic minorities - particularly the nomadic ones - is a rarely covered topic.
absolute stellar production quality m8.. Amazing vid
Living in -50C° could drive a Nomad mad.
Good Job ! More arctic content please and thank you. When will you come to Finland ;)
Great video) big respect from Saint Petersburg Russia✌️
Like to have one of their winter coats.. nice.👍🇨🇦🙂
same, they are beautifully made. I'd love to own one that was made there.
I really love these vlogs... Man you are back again!!!
Thank you for the great content💓 Must be hard touring the arctic russia with that freezing weather 🥶 but great content 👌 Watching all the way from 🇵🇭
I frequently lose hats and gloves like that. The feeling when you realise *facepalm*.
It can be a fatal mistake in such a remote and cold place.
He was lucky it was a warm day. Actually, maybe that's the reason why he forgot his hat.
Really nice video, you deserve more subrscribers for sure!
Interesting to look at your city and area through the eyes of a foreigner, thank you, subscribed to you!
Hey man I really appreciate your videos! I've always wanted to visit Russia, but the political situation is worrisome to me, as I am an American citizen. But these videos are the next best thing! Thank you so much for the effort that goes into making these!!!
You yourself are not a politician, but an ordinary person, what are the problems?
@@oldbagira2192 In the US they are brainwashed with reds under the bed so much, it's almost an instinct by now. They're unrecoverable anymore.
Go get the visa and welcome) Russians are friendly, as you can see from these videos.
I'm so pleased I discovered your channel. You will definitely reach over 1,000,000 subscribers if you keep up this level of quality, human content.
Peace! :)
Amazing! Thank you
Sad you lost your cap in taxi, but thank you very much for the video, can't dream or imagine visiting these remote places! God bless! 👍
Your videos are extremely informative……and entertaining.
This channel is gold
i live in italy too but i get to -20ºc easy wtf
Very nice! Well produced, interesting, keep up the good work. Although I doubt if they used AK47s against the polar bears!
That overcoat that you are wearing is very attractive and looks so warm!
Wow I wonder if I can buy some of there clothes
Same. I really want to own one. I'm a fashion designer and this has made me really want to go there just to buy one of their coats for study.
It's a shame you couldn't buy that Nenets burka! I would pay hundreds for something like that. The lady you were speaking with was so kind and informative))
Bro i just spent all day watching your videos ! super high quality and so watchable. If you stick at this theres no. way your dont wind up with millions of followers ! Peace from New Zealand
I love your channel! Excited for every video when you post something!😄 keep going, ypur channel will explode soon☺️ btw please make videoes in Chechnya next summer😄
Nice video...
You need to teach us Russian. Would be brilliant.
Quality, fascinating content. I hope the algorithm gives you many subs soon
good stuff
What date was this filmed?
Such nice lady to tell you all about the Nenets
Too bad you didn’t get to pet a deer 🦌 or a bear 🐻
You almost got me everytime you say “bye” lol. Huge fan here from the Philippines. Keep those content coming up.
great video. i didnt expect these Nenets people would be so integrated in to the russian system. Very interesting
We working and livivng with Nenets, Khanty, Komi and other people all together. Our speaker of regional parliament is Nenets. We have Nenets doctors, teachers, sportsmen, firefighters, helicopter pilots and many other occupations. And I can't understand why it could be different? They are the same part of our people as all the rest of our citizens. Explain why you didnt expect it?
🙏💖🌺🥰💚🌺💖🌺💚
Im glad your back bro, love the accent
Great vlog !
aahh Banging vid man, the Legend is back!!!! Spasiba from Cape Town, South Africa
Really cool video Davide, keep up the good work! Buffon turns 44 next month and is still playing for his boyhood club Parma.
Hey Dave, i love your videos, they are so interesting and you are such a nice guy!
PS: Your voice reminds me of Borat 🙂
I hope Nenets people don't go extinct just like Karelians
There are 60000 Karelians in Russia.
This reminds me of single men " Madventures" , with the theme and all :D Love it
Love your show bro mad love from NYC !
Dave have a great Christmas bro
What a fantastic trip
waiting for some more videos ...
Spotted the UoL bottle in the taxi! are you still a student here Dave? drop down The Font and tell your stories of russian adventures sometime ahhaah
Never thought that bottle would make it further north than Edinburgh, did you?
Masterpiece content, love it!
question: sorry but may i know how do the nenets get money to buy stuffs? im curious
The Nenets are engaged in animal husbandry and reindeer herding. Many families tend herds of thousands of reindeer. Venison is very expensive and dietary meat. There are many meat processing plants in the north where reindeer carcasses are bought.
First
Wonderful
Awesome! I saw the shrine in the (back?) of the chum. Are the Nenets Orthodox?
no. they believe in spirits, their religion is similar to shamanism.
@@Ivanov7 Interesting. Thanks.
i heard there is fusion of local nomadic religions with orthodox christianity, especially in such places as in the video
Check it out ! Italian Bald and Bankrupt. Great videos man! I love it!
You should be sent to prison for trying to copy bald & bankrupt
Should go on a migrate with Bald 😂
So these Nenets people look a lot alike Eastern Asian people.
it is because they are eastern asian people and they're live in Asia.
@@sptshnik those people look like japanese, chinese or korean people. But average russians don't look like that
@@LSD97123 There are more than 190 nationalities living in Russia. 58% of Russia's territory is located in Asia. Russia borders China, North Korea and Japan. Is it surprising to you that a representative of a national minority looks like a Korean or a Chinese? In Russian, "citizen of Russia" and "Russian (as a nationality)" are denoted by different words - "россиянин" и "русский". Therefore, it is not clear to me what you mean by "average Russian". Nenets are Russians by sitizenship, but not Russians by nationality. By the way, how to represent the "average American"? Is it an Indian, an Anglo-Saxon, an African-American, or a Latin American?
The Nenets people belong to the Uralic race, which is characterized by europid and Mongoloid features. There is also a downward trend in Mongoloid features from east to west. Among the many Nenets people can be found people with light hair or light eyes, and this is not always due to their partially Russian origin.
@@Supninas I've never seen the light haired nenets man or woman.
How do I get rid of these stupid subtitles on the screen?
Bruh it takes me 10 hours every time to create those, forreal
This guy is heavily influenced by bald and bankrupt he speaks like him, films like him, same mannerisms. Not hating but its a litte weird dude.. needs more originality
