We've been dying to record this one since we watched the very first episode of Westworld last year, and finally got the chance when Cicely came to visit a few weeks ago! Some of you might recognize Cicely from her work with Patrick's band Break of Reality. She's a great friend and phenomenal cellist who is in demand all over the world as a classical soloist. We're honored to collaborate with her! We also asked Cicely to arrange Bach's 1st Cello Suite (originally for solo cello) for 3 cellos to record with Patrick for our Brooklyn Classical channel. She was up for the challenge and the arrangement is AWESOME. 😍😍😍 Patrick, Cicely and fellow amazing cellist Christine Lamprea recorded audio for all 6 movements (all available on Spotify, iTunes, and everywhere else) and 3 videos. YES!!! So much better than the original! The real strings + playing add SO much energy to it. Love the breakdown, game of thrones hint and the piano plucks at the end. Nailed it!
Elfangel85 totally disagree! The original was made using cheap midi instruments (ie fake piano and cello sounds). While I love well crafted electronic sounds the intro to Westworld could have been SO much better if he had just hired real players! Compositionally it is cool, well crafted and memorable, but the actual sounds leave much to be desired. For me this performance breathed new life into a sonically dull but well composed theme, made something that I usually cringe everytime I hear sound fresh and new.
Yeah, Westworld and Game of Thrones both got one thing wrong, and that's that they used synthesised instruments in their theme songs. Although you could argue that it was deliberate in Westworld as it adds to the main theme of the series. Still... you guys rock with your human flesh powered stringy things.
