Season 1: A horse, an enslaved, domesticated animal , just like the hosts. Season 2: A bull, an untamed animal representing the rebellion of the hosts. Season 3: An eagle, symbol of freedom, freedom of the hosts.
Lots of really impressive symbolism in all three opening credits...the thing that's got me particularly intrigued is this is the first time we've seen the face of the host 1:25 is not a face. It's covered by something. I'm curious to know what this could mean? Is it perhaps that Dolores and the other hosts are now putting their defences up and hiding their true identities and nature behind a mask?

The way the music swells here feels uplifting to me... I interpreted the piano player stopping playing as one expression of freedom attained by "letting go"... the music will still continue playing.

That eagle flying to the sun really reminds me of the story of Icarus. Icarus's hubris led him to fly to close to the sun and eventually his downfall, i wonder if Dolores will do the same.

The touch of the two people (0:29) is undoubtedly a homage to Michelangelo's "The Creation of Adam". Men, playing gods, created the hosts. As the hosts rise toward the surface of the water, which separates the sky (the heaven) from the dark depths of unconsciousness, the hosts look up and envision themselves as deities. The way the scene is shot shows us the perspective of the hosts from below the water surface, with their god above being revealed to only be their reflection/self image (0:38). However, the hosts became more advanced than their creators, essentially transcending the line between the divine and human and eventually surpassing the humans and breaking through the surface of the water (0:44), reaching the world of the gods (humans). As they continue their ascent, the perspective shifts from upwards to downwards (00:58) and we look down upon their previous shells (1:13). The hosts are now gods, having escaped their robotic confinments, figuratively speaking. However, if season three goes even further, it could be literal foreshadowing of the hosts leaving their bodies and transcending into a non-physical form. This might be a bit far fetched, but we’ve already seen people and hosts existing in virtual worlds (the cradle and the valley beyond). Rehoboam might be based on the hosts’ AI and even have a personality, who knows? But as the hosts ascend higher and higher, we see the eagle, representing Icarus, taking off into the sun. This reflects on the hosts’ never ending struggle and desire to achieve a sentient, and later a divine state. When the eagle is airborne in the beginning, it flies behind what looks like a jet engine/exhaust (0:15). This chase of technological and spiritual advancement by hosts and humans alike (symbolized by the jet engine that looks like the sun) is what ultimately causes the downfall of the eagle as it loses its feathers, which are what made it fly in the first place. What‘s most interesting to me is how this imagery of something rising up and becoming a god can be interpreted both as the rise and downfall of the human race as it develops disruptive AI or as the journey of the hosts themselves, who become too powerful in their quest for revenge and power. Either way, just like with Icarus, it‘s gonna end badly...
The dandelion seeds represent (of course) replication/procreation and the spreading of your progeny... robots getting out and ultimately infecting Mankind's supercomputer, Rehoboam...which cannot be a good thing.

That is a short but great insight and analysis on just this opening alone, you referencing icarus reminded me of deus ex human revolution which is a great game Sci fi series. It featured an artificialy augmented man having dreams of his prosthetic arms emerging as wings then burnt to a crisp by the sun. Then followed by of his body being examined by physicians making a homage to Rembrant's painting, highly recommend the it you are a fan of westworld like me.

steelbook or 4k for every single year - the show DESERVES that much as so much time and effort is put into the story craft to make works of art. Trompe L'oeil from s1 plus Riddle of the Sphinx and Kiksuya from s2 and Decoherence from S3 are MONSTROUSLY GOOD. With the credits i love how they consistently shift to showcase the large cast.

The image of the reflection from underwater is a dual reference to the Oshii Anime Ghost in the Shell though they changed the focus to the hands touching the surface first so it's both a GITS reference and a reference to The Creation of Adam and then the upper reflection/image of god disappears and the lower passes through to the upper space symbolizing Dolores' desire to transcend God/the creator ( and of course the hosts' creators are humans).
The Player Piano roll from the first two seasons' intros is replaced by Rehoboam - the roll determining the notes to be played in a song, Rehoboam determining the events to unfold in a story. The only way to escape the determinism/simulation is to stop playing.

Not intending to watch third season - after 1st episode i ultimately decided that show ended for me in 1st season and yet those opening credits give me chills
The eagle is Dolores; here’s why 1. Obvious out of the way - it’s a synthetic being 2. It’s a symbol of freedom and it’s how Dolores sees herself to build this new world for hosts and humans 3. It’s a predator - as how Dolores called herself that too as her Charlotte copy 4. It’s flying to what first looked like an afterburner of a jet, but it also symbolises the Rehoboam because of how it has the same effects as represented in the show (kinda like a burning sun in an eclipse) This is quite an obvious reflection of Icarus’s myth, who made wings out of feathers and wax with his father, but he got too ahead of himself and flew too close to the sun which he ended up falling to his demise - the same way the Eagle here was shredded as it got too close to the burner. We all know what happened in the end of the season, as the original copy of Dolores died literally under the Rehoboam. Of course symbols can hold multiple meanings as a lot of other commenters have brought up, this is just my take.

Do any of you guys noticed the Pianist is slowly but steadily forming his/her human shape with each openings? (Opening 1: Infrastructures - Bones; Opening 2: Connecting Joints; Opening 3: Non-colored Flesh).
The hands touching could show the humans and hosts merging with society and the bird flying away could show the rebellion of the hosts and then being free.
I love how in each opening we get a visual of an eclipse, and now in Season 3 we see what that represents. It’s cool because it shows right from season 1 who was really in control, and as we know, Incite was responsible for the creation of Westworld in the first place.
Many references to Michelangelo, and Icarus, but I'm surprised no one noticed the HUUUUGE similarity of some images with the opening scene(s) of Ghost In The Shell (both the film remake and the animated original, actually).
The way the logo at the end appears as a mirror version and the symbol to signify season 3 , III. Hinting that this could just be a reflection of the real world and just is a simulation.

It’s totally amazing!!! The most beautiful and catching intro ever. Music,scenes,graphics….I can’t express all the emotions I feel. And of course serial is unforgettable.The best over the last years: actors,plot,music…of course it’s not easy to get through to everything in the serial,but anyway it’s worth watching 10000000%. I am into it.

The image of the reflection from underwater is a dual reference to the Oshii Anime Ghost in the Shell though they changed the focus to the hands touching the surface first so it's both a GITS reference and a reference to The Creation of Adam and then the upper reflection/image of god disappears and the lower passes through to the upper space symbolizing Dolores' desire to transcend God/the creator ( and of course the hosts' creators are humans).
I swear the moment this music plays in background for season 4's intro, im gonna get chills
The Player Piano roll from the first two seasons' intros is replaced by Rehoboam - the roll determining the notes to be played in a song, Rehoboam determining the events to unfold in a story. The only way to escape the determinism/simulation is to stop playing.
a few months ago, I said that since season one was the horse which symbolized control, and season two was the bison, which symbolized power, I actually predicted that season three would have a bird, symbolizing freedom, and what do you know, we get a bird for season three....

The show is called Westworld which is a theme park. It was about a theme park and the drama surrounding it. What do you expect, for them to stay in the theme park forever and ever?

Not intending to watch third season - after 1st episode i ultimately decided that show ended for me in 1st season and yet those opening credits give me chills
Meanwhile netflix has 15 mil subs on YT.. and this masterpiece of a network is underrated as fuck..
The eagle is Dolores; here’s why
1. Obvious out of the way - it’s a synthetic being
2. It’s a symbol of freedom and it’s how Dolores sees herself to build this new world for hosts and humans
3. It’s a predator - as how Dolores called herself that too as her Charlotte copy
4. It’s flying to what first looked like an afterburner of a jet, but it also symbolises the Rehoboam because of how it has the same effects as represented in the show (kinda like a burning sun in an eclipse)
This is quite an obvious reflection of Icarus’s myth, who made wings out of feathers and wax with his father, but he got too ahead of himself and flew too close to the sun which he ended up falling to his demise - the same way the Eagle here was shredded as it got too close to the burner. We all know what happened in the end of the season, as the original copy of Dolores died literally under the Rehoboam. Of course symbols can hold multiple meanings as a lot of other commenters have brought up, this is just my take.

I think that this one is the best opening credits of any of the three seasons. The visuals are just insane and so powerful.

The dandelion turning into the data is symbolic of how when charlotte told charlotte ¨You wanted to live forever, be careful what you wish for¨ since the data is collecting the history of every person keeping their memory alive, forever and ofc the dandelion is symbolic of a wish

Do any of you guys noticed the Pianist is slowly but steadily forming his/her human shape with each openings? (Opening 1: Infrastructures - Bones; Opening 2: Connecting Joints; Opening 3: Non-colored Flesh).
The hands touching could show the humans and hosts merging with society and the bird flying away could show the rebellion of the hosts and then being free.

I love how in each opening we get a visual of an eclipse, and now in Season 3 we see what that represents. It’s cool because it shows right from season 1 who was really in control, and as we know, Incite was responsible for the creation of Westworld in the first place.

Many references to Michelangelo, and Icarus, but I'm surprised no one noticed the HUUUUGE similarity of some images with the opening scene(s) of Ghost In The Shell (both the film remake and the animated original, actually).
