she began recording for "Dreaming of You" on 5 March at Quintanilla, Jr.'s recording label Q-Productions in Corpus Christi, Texas. During the recording session, Selena was battling bronchitis. Her father asked her to "just try" and sing the song because several producers had arrived from Los Angeles to watch her record the track. After the recording session wrapped, the producers liked the singer's vocal range in the song and decided to use her first take

I can't even imagine what had to be going through his mind while he was listening to this - the memories of Selena and the many incredible things she achieved, and the many more things she would have certainly achieved in the future, the things she would never get to experience, such as motherhood or seeing her children have children of their own, and bringing her music to the attention of the the rest of the world, not solely through her recorded work, but in person, through the "Dreaming Of You" tour, during which she would have performed in Europe and Asia for the first time. God bless Mr. Quintanilla - I don't know how he remained so composed during the filming of this video. I'm pretty sure I would have lost it the second I heard Selena's voice. Sometimes, I tear up just thinking about her. She had so much more to give, and it was all lost to the world because of a selfish act of violence committed by a coward who didn't deserve the honor and the priveledge of being a part of Selena's life to begin with - something that so many of us would have loved, and would never have taken advantage of. I second this comment. Everyone always makes him out to be greedy, money hungry man who "exploits" his daughter for money. He is human with emotions and I'm sure that he was just as proud of her as he was emotional from her death. Sure, she was the money maker, but by that time, she was worth millions. I feel that he wanted her to continue her hard work because he knew that she deserved it and that was what she desired. I, personally, wish that they had support an English-language album in the beginning. She would have definitely been an American icon up there with the greatest since the late 80s. She is now because she is remembered because of her potential. Everyone recognizes her potential but it angers me that there are people who say that she is only recognized by her death and her biopic (released in 1997). Her English-language album was released the same year as her death (1995) with the 4 songs she was able to record music plus a few reworked, previously recorded Spanish-language songs and it STILL debuted at freaking NUMBER ONE, on the Billboard 200 albums chart (look again: NUMBER ONE) and that says A LOT for an artist who previously only released music in a regional genre. She had it all: the beauty, strong soprano voice (voice "experts" fight me! Her voice was huge!), the dance moves, stage presence, the charisma, the humility, and probably eventually the lyricism (because she did write lyrics for songs, some for which she recorded demos but never released). She had it all
@@garryeagle I can see in part why he went the spanish route. 1 it was an opportunity to break into the business locally. 2 with the local experience they were able to expand to Mexico then all of latin America. This gave the the opportunity to really hone their skills as musicians on an international scale. Selena really came into her own by the time we see videos like "La carcacha" then "Bidi Bidi Bom Bom" and "Amor Prohibido" those songs had a more pop sound to them and the music was more polished. The next logical step was the english language which would have been big for her. Unfortunately a thief and murderer snuffed out her life when Selena confronted her about the hundreds of thousands of dollars she was stealing from her. Selena would have gone far in her career.

I was going to say the same thing! That ‘ baby’ at 00:13 was beautiful. She really was reaching the peak of her vocal technique compared to when she was younger. What a shame man...

I remember in 1999 I was a little girl and I remember this song coming on the radio and I thought to myself this girl is immaculate this girl singing is amazing who is this I had no clue she was the Como la flor star I knew who Selena was but I wasn’t aware she passed and wasn’t aware she was the same person who sang Como la flor💖💕 when I got older and then saw the VH1 documentary and realized who she was the girl whom I thought to be a one hit wonder which actually was Selena🥺😩and then I realized how sad she crossed over into the English market and didn’t live to see it! People all over the world know Dreaming OF You!
I almost can't even listen to this song on purpose because it was played right along with her murder scene in the film. You watch a whole movie about this amazing, charismatic, brilliant artist only to learn that she's dead and never coming back. Really traumatized 5-year-old me.
@@laraabiona903 Honestly-The death is tragic, but it’s the nostalgia that gets me sad. 90s Tejano music was a heyday and it seemed to have died a few years after she died. I saw her in concert in downtown San Antonio in the early 90s. We had just returned to Texas after being stationed in Frankfurt, Germany for 4 years. We were lagging behind in Tejano culture much less the rest of American pop culture - I.e. My grandmother would record episodes of the program “In Loving Color” and send them to us lol. There was no internet, no social media etc. I had never heard of her until that concert and I became a fan. My uncle got to go up and shake her hand - it was a big deal. What I loved about Selena was she was this Tejana who looked like so many of us. I just realized their family have a very common south Texas look - I don’t mean that in a bad way. My grandparents are from south Texas. That’s one reason why I think she was beloved. So many telenovelas always had the protagonists as light skinned - and browns and blacks were either antagonists, serving and/or comical characters. She began to glow up as time went on and she would’ve became so much more had she not been murdered. I also believe she would have never forgotten her first fans in small towns across Texas - the rest of the southwest and Mexico.
