Eventually, they wanted Erykah Badu to sing the hook instead, and the song won a Grammy. Jill Scott could have felt a type of way, but that was just business. She did the same to Ciara, made up with her and did a video with her to squash the beef, but then dissed her on the Breakfast club when the opportunity presented itself. Keri’s problem is she’s a mean girl and mad shady, but doesn’t have the backbone and wits for it. You gotta pick a struggle… you can’t be shady like that AND stuttering and playing dumb / backpedaling when you get confronted about it.
    Like if you’re gonna take the shots you’re gonna take, you gotta do two things: 1. Stand in it and 2. Be incredible in your own lane.
    Keri is dope as hell, big fan of hers since the jump, but *incredible in her own lane? No… not to the level that eclipses the nastiness and other women she’s taken shots at.
    And before some fan comes at me saying I’m wrong, the proof is literally in the careers and legacies!!!!

I wonder how much media training she received at the time? It seemed like she and/or the team behind her was just burning bridges without realizing that you firstly need an established fan base. This video was very eye opening. I loved Keri Hilson as a kid! It’s partially nostalgia because her biggest singles were everywhere at the time (pretty girl rock was everyone’s anthem when I was in elementary school. On top of that, as it was mentioned in the video Keri, Beyoncé and Ciara’s audience/fans overlapped. In this scenario she’s a new girl so someone who are already a fan of Beyoncé or Ciara are both now seeing Keri come at them disrespectful whose side you think they’re going to take? The Turnin Me On remix was such a f*cking moment!! I literally remember where i was when that song aired on the radio. Me and my bestie were in the car and started scremaing, banging on the wheel, jumping all around while we were driving down the street because it was mindblowing to hear that song clearly dissing Beyonce. It was crazy! We went crazy! Self sabotage, yes, 100 percent! But a monumental moment in music history that had us all hype and amped up, also yes!!

    The Beyoncé song “Bow Down Bitches” makes way more sense now, but I think Keri Hilson is very talented and attractive, she has all the tools, they (the industry) wanted Beyoncé to be the only one on the mountain top, they did the same thing to Ashanti when she had the highest debut album of any female in history at the time in 2002

    She's one artist who I hope gets another chance. I work in the entertainment industry and can tell you a lot of manipulation happens behind the scenes by the people in power. Back then beefing to get on was a thing. Beyonce was winning for so long that people was tired of her. I even remember an interview in which Timbaland said him and Polo was excited because Keri was someone who could finally give Beyonce some competition. Unfortunately it backfired and she had to take all the licks. People hate that lady till this day. I really hope she gives music another try and comes back with some amazing records.

    The idea that not writing your own songs makes your talent questionable is a very new idea that seems to have come as a result of the Hip-hop age. Before rappers, no one cared whether an artist wrote their own songs or not.

    • @uschilou
      @uschilou 4 місяці тому +5

      I don't think a lot of people realized that songwriters were so widely used. Rap just shone a light on it bc it's important for them to write their own raps. Then people started noticing all the writers and collaborators.
      But I get it, I don't really care who wrote a song if I love the way it sounds. It's cool to know the talent behind it, but it doesn't stop me from enjoying the music.

    ngl... after watching this, i get why ppl dont vibe with her. like i didn't realize she did all this shady sh*t and had beef w/ other female singers besides beyonce. like... how are you going to sing "to the left to the left" and say that isn't about beyonce 😩& after the beef with beyonce, did she just actively choose to not have any media training??? how she gunna think its okay to respond to charlemagne's ciara comment? everyone and their mama knew that was a trap. the vibe i got after this video was that she never wanted to be just a song writer, and wanted to be the star all along-- which is FINE, but don't get mad at someone singing your song just like you did on the demo! i'd be flattered that they thought it was so good that they didn't change a thing! she just sounds salty that usher wanted her words, but not her on the remix 😅 just be comfortable collecting those checks for song writing royalties!

    I loved her lead role in Trey songs “my side of the bed” video. Her character was so believable and she looked absolutely beautiful. What she didn’t know was that she looked better than Ciara, beyonce and Tierra Marie. But she acted like she was better when she was getting into main stream. She didn’t know how to use her talents. She should have gone more philanthropic or modeling lane. She could have done shows like X factor or American idol. She is the only artist that I wish would have lived her full potential

    I'm a Bey fan, but i really liked Keri growing up too. So seeing all these cameos and videos are sending me back to when i literally would watch and listen to anything she was apart of.
    When she suddenly dissed Bey and Ci as if there wasn't enough room for all of them, it was disheartening and i stopped supporting. I dont think she realized the overlap of her audience. That there were legit Bey fans that supported her as well. She was refreshing until she dropped the pen and opened her mouth.

    It is pretty comical hearing her downplay the leak when it's so obvious 💀. It's a shame she was pressured in the first place, but she was still grown. She didn't deserve all the fallout from it, because it's never that serious (misogyny at play), but even after that she was poking a bear and needed media training. Badly. Hindsight is 20/20 though.
