Brittney Slayes comes on a lot of reactor's channels... you should reach out to her.. since you are from their hometown, you'd have a 99.9% chance of interviewing her... you could ask about how they made this video, etc. Also, would be interested in her development as a vocalist...
I'll second that she seems really open to interaction with the "reactor" subset of the YT community. Since they can't tour, and just released a new album, this is a great way for her and the band to spread word of mouth awareness to their work.
She seems happy to come on any channel that asks, which is great! I have seen her more than once doing interviews on channels with only about 3 subscribers!
Here's a vague breakdown to give you a bit of context behind this songs lyrics and the album it's from - Apex(2017). This is a concept album telling a story track by track about an Immortal being. This is the opening song on the album. It is sung from the Immortals perspective(not all the tracks are), about being awoken in his mountain hollow from a 1000 year sleep. As a covenant of birth, the immortal must do the bidding of whoever awakens him. As the tracks progress, you find out that The Matriarch(which is played by the male vocalist in this song Awakening) was the one to awaken him. She wants him to find her four sons, so she can kill them and perform a blood ritual to gain immortality for herself(pretty dark haha), and his journey to find them. Each son has their own song about them on the album. The closing song Apex, is about the immortal going back to sleep in his mountain and it is a phenomenally written song. Their new album which released in August, is a continuation of this story, and the immortal has awoken on a spaceship confused as hell wondering where tf his mountain is lol from the single Abyss. I won't go into the rest of the album lol but i highly recommend reacting to the song Abyss She utilizes vocal layering in the studio. She will record 2 or more layers to get the choir effect she's looking for.
"Holy Harvey Warhanger" followed by "she has white teeth" was never ever what I ever expected to ever hear form anyone anywhere, but im so glad for the experience of hearing it. I love you you sweet sweet man 😂🥰😁
Speaking of Canadian content...Don't forget to show some love to Victoria, BC's own Courtney LaPlante and her band, Spiritbox. Either "Holy Roller" (official video) or her one-take vocal of "Rule of Nines". I doubt you'll be disappointed. 🤘😁
@@justdave9610 You may like it better, but visually(video) and vocally, Rule of Nines is tamer. My suggestion was based on videos and vocals and ramping them up one step at a time.
Practical tip: you can use the k key to pause and play, and the j and l keys to jump backwards and forwards 5s at a time. Once you're used to it,it's much faster than with the mouse 👌
as someone else said the SM7B is the workhorse mic of metal bands in a studio. It's perfect for the very high dynamics involved in the typical chorus belts and screams. and the pop filter is removeable but the mic does look strange with out it for sure. Courtney LePlant of sprit box also uses a SM7B in her one take recordings. I would recomend rule of nines one take if you want to check out another BC girl that absolutely shreds vocally.
Brittney and the boys are SO CRAZY talented, and they're just a bunch of goofs, too! Brittney is just totally adorbs, but so freakin powerful! Like, where does she hook up the air compressor to hold those notes?! I'd be so proud of this troop if they were MY kids! Love the bunch of 'em!! 😄❤😄
If this wasn't in one take live, I've seen them do it live, and trust me, it could have been. They sounds just as clean, and look just as relaxed and in the zone, when they ARE doing it live. It's insane.
You should really check out there cover of the song Northwest Passage when you react to them again. The video for that song can be slightly confusing though until you realize that the video is depicting the band experiencing alternate and converging realities where the "evil" Brittney shown at the beginning of the video finds another reality that she likes better and decides to try and take the place of the other Brittney.
@@MaskedNozza Yeah. It took me several watches of the video to piece together what was going on. The real question that was kind of left up in the are is if the evil Brittney only killed the one Brittney that she wanted to replace or did she kill ALL of the Britney's from all of the other realities? Hmmmm? Interesting cliff-hanger. :-)
My absolute favorite piece of this song is absolutely the drummer. Like my god what a powerful rhythm. I just start air-drumming with my arms every time listening to this.
Britney has stated that she does her own vocal layering. She's said it's usually an amalgamation of the several difference melody versions she comes up with during the writing process.
You hit the nail on the head, Ken. These guys are absolutely amazing all around, and I really am blown away by what they do live. Brittney has an incredible voice, and knows exactly how to put it to use. It's that combination of Power Metal with NWOBHM that grabs you and takes you on a journey without letting go. You got another subscriber from this one.
It's the studio version I'm fairly sure, with the video being more about displaying a live playthrough and letting us see how they play the instruments.
I thought the same when Apex first hit. I'm pretty sure they're familiar with the New Mythology Suite. I'd love for Brittney to work with Russel Allen at same point, both have the wide range, lots of power, and a touch of grit, I'm sure they could do some amazing stuff.
I went to high school with Andrew (formally of the thrash band Golgotha) and that boy is a born SHREDDER! I was in 12th grade when he was in grade 10 and he could shred circles around all the grade 12 kids.
Just saw an interview with Brittney. Where she says she´s actually an Alto. That she sung Alto in an choir for many years... Well I guess she is an Alto who can take sickly high notes also then haha :) One of the three big Metal Godesses...Floor,Tatiana and Brittney... Thankyou for great reaction. / J

Idk if it’s been said but the reason it’s so calm and they’re playing separately is because it’s a play through. Not necessarily meant to be a music video. More focused on letting everyone see how it’s played. But they put it out as the video anyways. Atleast that’s how I think is how they did it.
The SM7b is used in studios for vocals due to it's large-diaphragm, as well as drum kicks. So Ken, Victoria, BC aye? I'm only 34 miles away from you. So.... I'm "nearly" Canadian. The ferry to Sidney is on the other side of the Island I live on. I'd love it if you could check out The Longest Johns. A group of four lads from Bristol who sing acapella sea shanties and folk songs, as well as some original tracks. Their rendition of Banks of the Lee is, in my opinion, their most emotive track, and truly haunting in its beauty.
