i was so excited when i saw this video. i have been blessed with the opportunity to spear fish off the Port Aransas TX jetty about 5-10 days a year. Its not something i get to do often, but when the water clears up and it happens it just makes it that much more special.

As a Florida native who, like you, had the privilege to see the Indian River Lagoon back in the day, as has already been mentioned and I can with a broken heart confirm, the vast majority of the IRL is a dead zone and a moonscape. I live in Jensen Beach and fish from the St. Lucie River and Inlet to the Mosquito Lagoon. Except for a few pockets close to the inlets that are still barely hanging on, the entire estuary is in full ecological collapse. I've pretty much have given up on the IRL since it won't be fixed in my lifetime and likely never. I now plan my fishing trips to the Nature Coast a few times a year. Planning on moving to Crystal River when I retire. Keep on keeping on. My wife Judy and I enjoy your videos.

nice to see you getting back to your roots. I'm here in Indialantic for donkey's years now... it's a shame that the army corps continues to bury the reef structure and all the Coquina around here. back in the day you could walk right off the beach over those Rocky shelves, jump in and spear along all those ledges for miles of reef and structure. I just turned 58 and hoping you're old enough to remember those times , or at least recalling all the rock and structure we had from Patrick Air Force Base to almost Mel Beach and some spots. 🤙🏼

I live an hour drive of where you dove on this film. This water quality issue is the reason why we dive/lobster/spear the more southern spots in Florida. There's been a lot of issues with water quality here in recent years. A lot of people claim it's coming from the Port (Canaveral) because the grass flats near the port has had some serious difficulties with bacteria, algae blooms, fish kills and other situations. it used to be a great fishing area, struggled for a few years and is now slowly coming back.

Aaron, Love the channel! Awesome to see you in my backyard. I have been diving/fishing one bridge south of you for about a year now and also line fishing around grand canal and Sampson island. The sheepshead this year we’re abundant and most reports I got said it was a better year than many recently. Then the summer came and viz dropped off. Diving the bridges and the relief bridges were a little too sketchy for me plus the fish were small. Then comes the hurricane…I live off the grand canal/ banana river and the water has been terrible viz ever since. Spent 2.5 days trying to line fish the area 2 weeks ago while a buddy came to town and got one small sea trout. The fish are gone! I fly a lot up and down the east coast and the water coming out of all the inlets is a disgusting brown color. The kahones you have to dive to the bottom in that viz is astounding. Thanks for the vid!

Mosquito Lagoon, warm water discharge, flats by the VAB and the spoil islands were all areas we hit often. I think we put in at the Titusville ramp the most. I think it was called Parrish Park?

What you experienced during this dive with the zero vis is....., well....all I have to say is, "Welcome to Georgia". Unless you are diving in the crystal clear creeks and rivers here in North Georgia (which are icy COLD), the major lakes and bodies of water in Georgia are pretty much exactly what you just portrayed. Lanier and some much further northern lakes aren't so bad at times, but vis is still a major issue here. You have it so good in Key west that I can't even tell you!!! Keep up the great videos. 👍

I hear ya brother on that one. That’s the same conditions that my waifs and I learned how to scuba dive in no joke. You literally had to stay about 1/4-1/2 arms length away from each other and still really couldn’t see anything until about 2 feet in front of us. Still it was a good day out. It’s amazing when a storm comes along how long it takes to clear up some

hey pontoon pilot, I also get the chance to fly the river occasionally, and have noticed a few areas that are starting to look positive. we fly out of Melbourne mostly South toward the Bahamas... a lot of proficiency flights give me a great view of the river... always hopeful 🤞🏼

Cool trip man. That’s most of the diving I did years ago when I got started spearing and this is the first year I’m getting back into it. It’s nice having minimal things to worry about. People always ask me how I spear dirty water and I just tell them that if I can see my hand, I can see fish.

That’s crazy to hear your from mims, I’m over here in NSB and we dive the docks and bridges inshore all the time. It’s definitely not the easiest diving but it’s exactly what your said it’s something to do when you can’t get out offshore. The colder water and incoming tide definitely play a huge factor as well with the water quality. 🤙🏼

@@KeyWestWaterman Yeah, your not wrong about that. Anyways it’scool to hear you had this type diving growing up. It’s definitely a little hard to get anyone in the water with us bc it is a little different than what most ppl are use too. I don’t know to many ppl that like diving in water that sometimes you hit your head on the bottom before you see it😂

We live here in Cocoa now and were excited to watch this video but finished it disappointed… Sad to say it was expected. We gave up fishing the river not long after we moved here and just go off shore now. It was nice to see what it’s like down in those waters though. The way they are treating our rivers is so sad.

Can't win'em all. Sometimes you can't even win half. A day in the ocean (even with complete mud water and no fish) beats the hell out of a day in a cubicle that's filled with existential dread.

This video is interesting and a change of pace for this channel. I think the water quality has improved in the last year. The content creator, for the most part, seems to be an experienced diver and underwater hunter. That being said, as a lifelong spearfisherman in Florida, I can tell you that he broke a cardinal rule by getting out of the water with a loaded and cocked speargun. That's a bad accident waiting to happen.

Good episode. I have had problems with too long a gun in the bad viz. i suppose money is the only answer (more guns). I find sitting on the bottom can work… the problem is when the fish get close enough to see you they scare so you have a super short time window. I will have to try your shadow technique feel stupid for not thinking if it myself
