Probably had to change it up a bit for the tour. It's a big, strenuous vocal to perform day in, day out. This way is maybe to ease the load, keeping him relatively fresh for each show. Could probably do with letting brother know that technique, he's famous for getting worse with each show...
Also about his own relationship falling apart!!! That’s exactly what the song is about. Obviously when you put the comment we didn’t know he & Sara were splitting up and now divorced. Exactly what Noel said about this song that it was about his personal life at that time but nobody knew what it was really about until a year later.
