Someone gave my and old shed and thinking of using it for a bigger Coop,live in Florida 🔥i like the styrofoam idea.....

Thanks! Yeah the Styrofoam definitely works but I had to rip out my higher roost because the hens decided to start eating the Styrofoam. The Florida weather is some ways is better because you only have to worry about insulating for the heat. Up here in MA we also have to worry about wind chill and water freezing etc. I just recently weather stripped to whole coop and soon I'll be winterizing the chicken run too.

What do you guys in Florida do for hurricane season, are your coops built differently?, I came up with my own solution because nobody touches this subject.

Wow you did a fantastic job converting your metal shed into a chicken coop. I purchased a small metal shed just for a chicken coop project, to begin in the Spring, here in the PNW. It appears we might get a sun break or two very soon. Anyway, your wonderful video has enlightened me of what my shed to chicken coop might look like shortly. Oh, I like the windows and your automatic coop door. I was wondering regarding the run area, whether you laid any wire around the outer edge of that great run and if so, about how many inches out from the lower frame? Just trying to get your thoughts regarding how far out the wire might be extended. Okay, that question asked, I just wanted to say, Great job and thanks for sharing. God bless!

Thanks a lot and that's great, I hope to hear it all goes well for you! Our shed coop has worked out better than I had anticipated and easily survived our New England summer and winter. Its nice to see many people these days are taking steps towards self-reliance and being able to produce some of your own food is a big part of that. Best of luck to you!

Hi can you link me to what kind of Styrofoam, brand and thickness? My shed is 100 deg in summer.... Chicken never survive that. I'm in North Texas. How many deg difference did it make? Thank you

Hi @samuraioodon , I just used the cheap bundles of 2'×4' blue colored packs of Styrofoam from home depot. Given the heat you're contending with I'd reccomend extra insulation on ceiling and maybe even walls but most importantly, if you don't already, get some windows for ventilation installed on your shed. I custom made my windows but you could always even go find some small used ones. Let me know how it goes!

How many chickens did you lose because you use chicken wire? Predators can get through that chicken wire like nothing!

2 layers of chicken wire and a solid metal automatic chicken door seems to work just fine

I used decorative sheet metal, I couldn't find the plastic coated hardware cloth, the sheet metal is stronger.
