  • Building a craftsman resin shed to convert to a chicken coop. Still adding a window to the side and
    a vent on the door. Will do another video when done.

    It sits on pyramid blocks

    love it. if the roosts are pine, you will want to cover them with something because the sap from the pine can make the feathers on the bottoms where they sit be pulled out and will cause problems. Some people use carpet but I used indoor/outdoor carpet (astroturf). I no longer have issue with feathers being pulled and they can be washed. Love the chick door!!!

    Hello,
    What are your thoughts on warmth in the winter? House I purchased has a very similar shed that you used also left lots of wood behind too so it’s practically going to be free coop. I have 13 chickens 😊 still under light so plenty of time for me to get their coop together.
    What are your suggestions for keeping it warm in the winter months?

    Hello, thank you for the video. This is very helpful as I would like to use a resin shed for my chickens. I have a question for you on how you built the base. What types of materials did you use? And did you dig at all to add any concrete? The area that we will be putting our coop gets muddy in the rainy season, So I didn't want to have any wood contact with the ground.

      We have an old shed like this, slightly smaller, that we took down this year after moving. We just went to Lowes to price the wood for building a new coop and we were at $800 without materials for the run. So, I think we will be putting up our old craftsman shed and modify it for a chicken coop. We'll done!

    Can you explain how you added the chicken door?

    • @wndzman
      @wndzman  2 роки тому

      It is battery operated so really easy. I used energizer lithium batteries and the original ones are still running. Went between the 2x4 beams and seams of wall pieces and did my measurements and cut out with a jig saw. I just used a piece of plywood to ground with some wood strips across for traction. I did wind up building a small enclosure over door and ramp to keep the snow out of door and track. It is really a pretty easy process.

    • @wndzman
      @wndzman  3 роки тому +3

      No it does not weaken the frame enough at that point to be an issue. With the added 2 windows and the vent I put in the door it is fine. They are outside all day anyways and it is plenty cool in there at night. I also do have the fan hooked to a inkbird WIFI controlled thermostat that starts fan if it gets too hot. Works great.
