Man I whish they made more films of this magnitude it hits so many themes death, life, love, revenge, loyalty, honor, respect, redemption, retribution, salvation, and of course perdition Michael Sullivan has got to be my favorite gangster. truly a great piece of cinema I probably watch this movie at least two times a year.

Tom Hanks in a very different role in this movie.. Jude Law as the unrelenting assasin is perfect counter foil... and Paul Newman adds that grace and charm which only he could bring.. Sam Mendes made a beautiful movie with violence at its core.. and Thomas Newman's score.. no words to describe its greatness
I saw this in theaters at the age of 19 with a friend... I was hanging on the edge of my seat and he fell asleep. To each his own, I absolutely loved the rich depth of this movie and still come back to it. It’s a masterpiece.
You didn't serve to your country but you kill in the name of your country miles away from home while in your own country( I assume you are American) there are plenty of problems to be resolve like racism, segregation or inequality by gender.

One of the biggest lessons/challenges in life is learning and dealing with how to lose and let go of something you love. Thomas Newman is breathtakingly talented.

My dad cheated on my mom, we found out after the divorce and my brother stopped talking to him. I ate dinner with my father every Sunday because I still loved him. He raised me and was there for me whenever i needed. I remember going over to his townhouse and him saying I have a good mob movie we should watch. In a way, him watching this movie with me was him thanking me. I love my father.
My dad also did the same to my mother, which lead to their divorce. My mom passed about two and a half years back. My brother and sister are not on speaking terms with him anymore. I still eat dinner with him most Sunday's when I can. I too love him. Nobody is perfect. I also remember watching this movie with him. We both enjoyed it. Anyway, your story made me think of my own relationship with my father.
Raised by a single Irish father had it's ups and downs. There weren't too many words spoken in the home but there was strength in the silence. He would've loved his grandkids to pieces......I figure he's probably up there playing catch with the son I lost and absolutely living free. Miss you both.

He has been nominated 14 times for an Academy Award for best score and has never won. What a travesty. Road to Perdition one of my favourites .Beautiful haunting music. Also some of the best art direction you will ever see .

They filmed scenes for the movie in my hometown, in Geneva, IL. It was fun watching them filming. Tom Hanks was friendly, & waved to the onlookers. Yes it is! Even though it is criticly praised few people talk about it today! People can't shut up about Memento, the first Pirates movie, Spirited Away, Lord of the Rings etc. from the early 2000! None of my friends have even seen Road to Perdition :/
First time I saw this, I knew I’d just watched a stone cold classic. Story, dialogue, cinematography, soundtrack and acting. I was beginning to think Miller’s Crossing would never be matched again. Unfortunately I don’t think anything in the genre has touched these heights since.
It's my favorite Hanks performance, which is strange as he doesn't quite fit as the cold blooded killer in the first half, loving father though he played perfectly. Such an amazing volume of work, this j us t pips it

Thomas Newman writes so beautifully for an orchestra. Can make something sound so simple (when at times it isnt) yet gorgeous. One of my favourite score writers.
This reminds me of my Mum. I miss her a lot. It's not any specific reason, I think it's just that I know she'd have loved this and that, somehow, it perfectly echoes how I miss her; sad because she's not here, and beautiful because she really was.

Hanks is truly the most sublime actor of his and any generation. I am sure that he’s been in a few forgettable movies, not that I can think what they were but if they do exist they are totally lost in the catalogue of absolute gems that he has been responsible for. I don’t usually get gushy over Hollywood but in Hanks we have the exception.
A lot of people do bad things in their life, but still managed to be good parents. Making the wrong choices it doesn't mean you going to be a bad father.
I watched this at 14 and ive never seen it since, yet it remains one of my favorites. I loved the soundtrack at that time, and now, 14 years later, I came to listen, and it hit me. THis song basically puts you in the emotion of the young boy in the movie. Its his feelings, pain, sorrow; yet somewhere deep inside, hes learned to live with what's happened. No hapiness, not contentness, just letting go and not caring, and moving on. Not forgetting, but forgiving. Such emotion behind this track I will need to rewatch this movie soon. Tom hanks is top 10 all time for sure.
watched in 2020, an emotional journey especially towards the end both father and son didn't disappoint . A master piece, and the music made it worth the while
For me, :25 mark transitions to a place that I feel like we can all relate to. It reminds me of the feeling when you accept that you did not succeed at something. It is a very humbling moment in life. That we can't control everything and every outcome. I find peace in this song and around the 1:00 mark I feel like its saying its okay to fail. Get back up and keep moving. Life will go on, and it's too short to dwell on shitty things.
PRSouthern, in my humble opinion, it's not that we, nor Michael Sullivan don't succeed, rather we, with eyes wide open, chose the wrong path to walk down whereby there is no succeeding until you confront yourself and see how devastating that decision was and try to retreat from that if it's possible. He made some choices whose prices were too high for him to pay and he SAW THAT when his time ran out and yet, he STILL had a boy to try and be a man and a father to.

This movie is very much underrated. I definitely like the era the soundtrack is phenomenal. Paul Newman was a legend not only in films, I used to go to lime rock Connecticut racetrack. I would see Paul Newman that man knew how to drive a race car he was fast was lucky enough to meet him in the pit area 🇺🇸🌞🏄♂️

The beach scene kills me at the end. Watched the film both as just a son to a father to now watching it as a father to two boys. I related to both. A strong emotional father/son film

You do any and everything to protect the ones you love , It's not easy when that protection requires more than physical strength . Honesty , empathy, love and compassion are courageous attributes, my son has them all in great measures. Though small in size and stature, he's gentle, honest, unselfish demeanour makes him a giant already. Thomas Newman writes so beautifully for an orchestra. Can make something sound so simple (when at times it isnt) yet gorgeous. One of my favourite score writers.

So much food for thought in this movie, just when you fall in love with Hanks’s character your reminded “ There are only killers in this room”
This reminds me of my Mum. I miss her a lot. It's not any specific reason, I think it's just that I know she'd have loved this and that, somehow, it perfectly echoes how I miss her; sad because she's not here, and beautiful because she really was.
Thank you for that comment. It's nearing my Mum's birthday and I miss her so so much. But she had her time here and she enjoyed it and lived it to the full.

Hanks is truly the most sublime actor of his and any generation. I am sure that he’s been in a few forgettable movies, not that I can think what they were but if they do exist they are totally lost in the catalogue of absolute gems that he has been responsible for. I don’t usually get gushy over Hollywood but in Hanks we have the exception.

I watched this at 14 and ive never seen it since, yet it remains one of my favorites. I loved the soundtrack at that time, and now, 14 years later, I came to listen, and it hit me. THis song basically puts you in the emotion of the young boy in the movie. Its his feelings, pain, sorrow; yet somewhere deep inside, hes learned to live with what's happened. No hapiness, not contentness, just letting go and not caring, and moving on. Not forgetting, but forgiving. Such emotion behind this track I will need to rewatch this movie soon. Tom hanks is top 10 all time for sure.

watched in 2020, an emotional journey especially towards the end both father and son didn't disappoint . A master piece, and the music made it worth the while
For me, :25 mark transitions to a place that I feel like we can all relate to. It reminds me of the feeling when you accept that you did not succeed at something. It is a very humbling moment in life. That we can't control everything and every outcome. I find peace in this song and around the 1:00 mark I feel like its saying its okay to fail. Get back up and keep moving. Life will go on, and it's too short to dwell on shitty things.
PRSouthern, in my humble opinion, it's not that we, nor Michael Sullivan don't succeed, rather we, with eyes wide open, chose the wrong path to walk down whereby there is no succeeding until you confront yourself and see how devastating that decision was and try to retreat from that if it's possible. He made some choices whose prices were too high for him to pay and he SAW THAT when his time ran out and yet, he STILL had a boy to try and be a man and a father to.

This movie is very much underrated. I definitely like the era the soundtrack is phenomenal. Paul Newman was a legend not only in films, I used to go to lime rock Connecticut racetrack. I would see Paul Newman that man knew how to drive a race car he was fast was lucky enough to meet him in the pit area 🇺🇸🌞🏄♂️

I think this movie , the cinematography , the score and the acting could not have been better. For me its one of the best certainly in the top 10 of all time .
The beach scene kills me at the end. Watched the film both as just a son to a father to now watching it as a father to two boys.

You do any and everything to protect the ones you love , It's not easy when that protection requires more than physical strength . Honesty , empathy, love and compassion are courageous attributes, my son has them all in great measures.
Though small in size and stature, he's gentle, honest, unselfish demeanour makes him a giant already. You can rest easy and safely, when such a man takes your hand, as a brother and as a son, he will guide you through troubled times.
