As an independent contractor, I'm well aware I won't receive benefits typically supplied by companies who hire employees to be on their staff payroll. That's why the keyword INDEPENDENT is there lmao. This sounds like a socialist policy being pushed by a department in the current administration by a woman who has never been a business owner herself.
She won't answer any questions specifically because she doesn't have to answer any questions. There are NO consequences for not answering any questions. The congresswoman has zero authority to reprimand her or do anything to her. All she can do, is try to embarrass her for 5 minutes.

Ah, great, then you're fully aware of the common corporate practice of hiring people ONLY as IC's (whether they are one or not) in order to avoid having to pay benefits, workman's comp, vacation/sick time, and have the ability to fire for any/no reason while often being entirely unaware of state labor rights. That's what this is about. I worked in the corporate world for a long time and I can tell you that a lot of MAJOR corporations have gone to this business model. It's not liberal vs/ conservative, it's just plain greedy, and it's entirely unfair to workers.

Let’s be real. The reason she won’t answer a question is that Congress is weak, soft and ineffectual. She knows that there will be no harmful repercussions to her for not answering. She knows she will be confirmed regardless of whether or how she answers. If there is a down side to answering and no down side to not answering, what incentive is there for her to answer? The only way to get nominees to answer questions is for Congress to grow a spine in back and some teeth in front.

Congress people should do this: 1st question: "Do you speak English?" 2nd question: Are you capable of answering a yes or no question? 3rd question: On a normal sunny day with no clouds in the sky in the middle of the day, does the sky look blue, yes or no." 4th question: ask your question.

The "goal" they keep skirting around is the government wants more control of how and when they collect taxes. Independent contractors pay taxes quarterly while employees pay every pay period. Independent contractors can deduct lots of different expenses before paying tax on the remaining profit. Employees cannot. The government wants to make everyone an employee for tax purposes, the most taxed type of income. That's the goal.

This is honestly what they should do in these hearings: Issue the witnesses two placards, one which says,"YES" and another that says, "No." When asked a direct question, the witness would be required to remain silent and answer by raising one of the placards. Failure to do so would result in them being held in contemp of Congress.
Isn’t there some penalty for refusing to answer a question from a congressperson? Contempt of Congress? I believe if you tried this with a judge in a courtroom you’d be sorry, the same should be true here.

I'm a conservative who despises Biden and thinks most of his appointees are terrible, but I'm also somebody who has worked as an independent contractor in jobs in which I was basically an employee with no benefits. Yes I had a choice of taking the job or not, but if I wanted to do that kind of work, there were no employers who would hire me as anything other than an independent contractor. I don't know what her proposed legislation is. Knowing Biden, it's probably bad, but the witness here was mistreated.
