    As of Nov,23rd 2023 I can now say SC-8850 and Sound Canvas VA are working but will not sound as good vs a hardware SC-88Pro -> will update changelog to say so

    Just downloaded and went straight to my favorite track (stage 5 theme). Wasn't disappointed.
    Honestly, this needs way more attention, great job!

    Could you make a list of each instrument used in each song? Wonderful recording by the way!

    Worth buying SC-88 pro from Facebook marketplace for only $50

      $50 is a absolutely amazing deal. People on Ebay sell them for the upwards $230 (too much for a ageing MIDI synth that probably has leaking capacitors and other issues with it)

      A majority of the sound comes from the master tuning and instruments of the synth.
      For example if you take "Tomboyish Girl in Love" TH06_05.MID and adjust the master tuning of the synth (Roland SC-88Pro) to 450hz it will already sound a lot like the .WAV recording, obviously with a bunch of modifications to the file you start to get really close.
      It will never be perfect cause they don't use the same samples or synth engine, but you will have the same relative feel of the .WAV version.
      I made a way more accurate example of how just tweaking settings can make a difference you can find it here > ua-cam.com/video/BmDk_ji8waM/v-deo.html

      @@pirozhkebab Oooh, I knew about the key changes, which is why i'm even more surprised that you could do something like this, alot of modifications other than key changes, and you made it sound so close to the SD-90 version!
      (Also I tried it in game, It definetly sounds worse on SC8850, maybe it's the filters that are broken, but I don't know, it sounds how it should in SC88Pro though!)

      @@IkaraPopsicle The SC-8850 (XP6 engine) is different enough from SC-88Pro (XP3 engine) that I would have to modify the MIDI files to use the 88Pro map in a newer separate version of the mod. Will add to the TODO list.

    • @pirozhkebab
      @pirozhkebab  9 місяців тому +3

      Well the SD-80/90 is a technically superior synth so in turn should sound better
      (It has worse backwards compatibility as a result of being a newer and better synth as a tradeoff though) (SD-80 GS mode is just eww)

    Very nice work on this. Would be nice if there was also a version that doesn't use SysEx for two drumkits on channel 10, for casual listening (or alternatively, moving the secondary drumkits to channel 16)

    • @Spaztron64
      @Spaztron64 Рік тому

      @@pirozhkebab Pretty much every track is affected. You can't have a pair of TR808 and another drumkit on the same channel in standard General MIDI, and neither will that work in any non-Roland GS implementation. Try playing your tracks in something that uses BASSMIDI, for example, you'll see that drums are missing frequently.

    • @pirozhkebab
      @pirozhkebab  Рік тому

      The SC-88Pro and newer have Extended Drumkits (no SysEX weirdness) that do not follow the standard GM format. Which allows for the use of electronic percussion sounds on acoustic kits.
      this is normal and only works on the SC-88Pro and newer
      for reference on what those kits look like I will include a link to the
      SC-88Pro user manual

    Can you tell me how did you replace EoSD MIDIs with arranged ones and what DAW did you use?
    I also tried to replace MIDIs in EoSD, PCB and IN but the game crashed when I tried to play them

    • @pirozhkebab
      @pirozhkebab  Рік тому

      I used the Touhou archive tool to decompile and recompile 紅魔郷MD.DAT (EoSD) (renamed to th06.dat so the compiler could see it as a usable file) and th08.DAT (IN) this should also apply for PCB as well but not to sure
      (I have not decompiled th07.DAT for the .MID files yet as I have no plans to rearrange them)
      make sure the midi files have the same names as the decompiled files otherwise the game will crash.
      also do not delete the loop triggers in the midi files as this will mess up the looping. *ref bottom of comment for what those look like
      as for the DAW I use it's Cakewalk By BandLab it has been discontinued so I have no idea where you could find a working copy

      @@pirozhkebab Thanks a lot, it turns out it's fault of my DAW (I use FL Studio) because when the game played the MIDI I replaced, it sended a lot of some kind of data and created feedback loop and then when I tried to play something else then the game crashed.
      I used same DAW as you use to see if it's fault with FL and now everything works fine.
      However I have some issue with tempo data in Cakewalk. When I imported MIDI file the tempo was set to 100 but it should be 163, later in the song there is a tempo change and its like it should be - 153. I tried both and Do you know maybe how to fix this?

    • @pirozhkebab
      @pirozhkebab  Рік тому

      In cakewalk some midi files don't import BPM you just manually set the BPM to what it should be in the control bar
      (the bar at the top) (if its not there set the DAW to advanced mode at the top left corner of the screen)
      P.s FL Studio's MIDI compatibility is really bad and it fills files with un necessary control data you can remove this data in cakewalk by selecting all channels (Ctrl + A) clicking on View -> Event List then removing whatever data you would like that doesn't say its note data
