I'm SO going to buy this lens! I'll keep my good ol' 55-200mm too for a while, and then I'll decide if I keep both or the 70-300 only. I've had a lot of fun with the 55-200mm, so I'm eager to see what can I do with the 70-300mm + a teleconverter. The 100-400mm is just too big, heavy and expensive for my style. Thanks for the review!
I have the 55-200 as well and will buy the 70-300 too. I did always miss some last step of reach. Or that the 55 did not support the teleconverters. So quite happy about this new lense.
Awesome lens and system seller IMHO. It's really solid optically, the range is awesome, size/weight are really great (especially considering the build quality), price is very reasonable, AF and OIS are top-notch, it's weather-sealed, etc. And features like pseudo-macro is just the icing on the cake :) I wish that Fuji follows a similar formula with future APS-C lenses. Making FF-wannabe lenses that are as big and as expensive as FF equivalents is totally pointless IMHO.
Masterful use of the K-01 here. It's weird how some shots look like they have decent detail and then others have a weird early video camera look to them. The fujifilm lens looks pretty nice!
I like the K-01 too. I’ve got the big Pentax K-1 with great lenses as well as Fuji X-E4 and a bunch of lenses (including this 70-300) as Olympus OM-10 and a range of lenses but I quite like the style of the K-01 and honest simplicity of the whole shooting package. That 16mp sensor was great in it’s and it still delivers very nice clean raw images.
@@daxvolfan yeah the 10-24 is in my head since quite some time too. I have the 55-200 already but will upgrade to 70-300. I always did miss some last steps of reach.
Nice: the perfect lens if weight is an issue. Like with landscape and travel. And great that with the teleconferter you can do some ocasional wildlife too. And with the weathersealing? I think we have a winner here!
Great review, guys! And the K-01 footage, surprisingly, didn't look too bad. Here's what I'm wondering about this one: 1. How is the weight of this lens distributed? Is it towards the rear of the lens (balancing better with the body)? The 55-200 is that way and a joy to carry around. 2. Is this lens more or less parfocal? 3. How's stabilization in video shooting handheld at 300mm? Yes, a tripod would be advised. Nonetheless, it seems the new Lumix 70-300 can pull this feat off smoothly. So I'm curious.
Do keep in mind, while comparing this to the Lumix lens, that you're comparing the same focal length lens between two different formats. All other things equivalent, shaking will be more apparent on the Fuji at 300MM (450mm equivalent.)
@@kylosalvesen TBH, iphones fail except in dynamic range. It even has worse or non-existent color accuracy. it only beats the pentax when it comes to rolling shutter issues. I don’t think the K-01 is bad enough to make it a 300k "punishment". It looks fine by me, maybe too contrasty and with crushed highs, but otherwise more than ok. It goes to show how little is necessary to make great content. (A more fun challenge could have been something like the Oly Evolt-5, Samsung NX Mini, Pentax Q or a Nikon 1...)
Occasionally, but really I needed it for video editing and it does have affordable power. I hate so many things about it though. The fan control is jank, and the noisiest ever. Is it my screen or that video is soft?
Thank you for the best review I've seen yet! Would I be greatly disappointed in this lens in comparing image quality to my 50-140mm (regardless of magnification)? I do already own the 1.4 and 2.0X teleconverters. Of course the 100-400mm would be even better, but the price is a bit much for this amateur ;)
Now I want it even more!
Can the next challenge be Jordan has to film episodes on a Ricoh GR2?
Thumbs up for the creativity and having fun at work. wtg
Is it still worth me getting this lens as I already have the 100-400 & 50-140 lenses???
If you’re happy with those the answer is no
Whenever I watch your videos, I remember how much I'm missing Calgary and from meeting you at TCS. Such an amazing place to live and to enjoy such a sh*t weather hahaha cheers love the place
Hello, any suggestions whether I need to wait for 18-300 Tamron or I shall buy this 70-300 Fuji?
I'm not ready to ditch my 55-200 yet so I'll wait for the 150-600 instead.

Occasionally, but really I needed it for video editing and it does have affordable power. I hate so many things about it though. The fan control is jank, and the noisiest ever. Build quality is suspect, and it isn't the most stable platform, probably due to the insane heat it generates. I think they've solved some of those issues in newer models though.
@@niccollsvideo gaming notebooks and noise is so annoying, that's what makes be stay at a desktop. Recently there's been a huge jump in video editing performance at lower power with the new AMD processors, though
This is such a nice lens. The only problem is how you turn off the ois when you are using a non IBID body especially when you use tripod.
In your seting.
@They Caged Non if that's true, that's a game changer then. It's stil better for an OIS switch though for some occasions.
@They Caged Non word. You’re bang on in both instances.
I have the 100-400 and might even sell the lens to buy this one just bc it’s smaller and lighter.
I’m thinking of doing the same. The weight saving for travel, when we can do that again, is well worth the loss in reach.
How to sport?
Consider rising shooting info text a bit higher since in 16:9 smartphones the text is unreasonable. thanks keep going rocks
