Thanks for the review, I got myself a used XT-3 without lens, and this was actually my first purchase. Can't wait to try it out and actually learn more about photography!
The best review for this lens!! keep going
There is something very valuable of lens reviews from someone who has used it in the field for a year in various weather conditions. Your feedback is a lot more useful to me, a potential purchaser of this lens, than Mr Ken Rockwell's complains about the red color of the letter 'A' on a Fufijilm lens aperture ring being not bright enough to see. Thank you Mr Fox.
You know what I enjoy? Watching somebody review a lens who is a good photographer. Really highlights the lens and lets it shine. Nice review.
Great review, greetings from Portugal✌🏼
Great information and great review. I'm currently considering all of the Fuji prime zoom lenses so your review is spot on, Thanks
Your comments on the lens hood are spot on 😂 have you also notice the sound the floating elements make in a super quiet room? A year after owning the lens, it scared me the first time I heard it.
AT LAST!!! proper review, THX Mate!
Great review and a great lens. Own this myself and love it.
nice review and good shots.. I'm picking up this lens tomorrow second hand :)
Love the bts, the image of the elk/ deer in the morning light by the tree was superb. By the way I love the 50-140 f2.8!
Very nice review. Pictures are stunning!
Such a high quality video. Thanks mate
Been on the fence between this lens kit and the 55-200mm and I think you sealed the deal for me.
Those morning photos of the buck were 👌🏻bravo!
Excellent,honest hands on review with real user examples! I think the stabilisation is swaying me to getting it! :-}
Hey Man! Great review: thanks! Love the results you get with it!
Again a nice review, with amazing pictures. I also own the 50-140mm an honestly, it's hard to miss a shot with that lens, it's incredible ! For me what's interesting too, it's that it has such a great contrast compared to a kit zoom!
You could have added that you can put a converter on it if you want extra reach!
Another awesome lens that i really want but probably I dont really need! :) Think its the kind of lenses that is better to rent than buy. Thanks! Been a follower of your work on instagram but just recently found about your channel and its great. Keep it up! Regards from Oxford.
Great review. Hopefully will be my next lens.
Love the photos! I hope you get your hands on the new 70-300mm and let us know what you think!
Cheers Roman for this, I have watched and always like/ button wise your vids keep up the great work and looking forward to more cheers rob from westgate on sea.
I really love that lens I have used it for events photography my favourite Fuji zoom.
It is a great lens. On my trip last year I had this lens mostly on my xt3 and had the 16-55 on my xh1 so I had stabilization all the time.
As my interest in the Fuji system grows... I’ve seen a couple of your videos. I love the reviews and the POV with showing edits. SUB’D.
nice video, great review, awesome photos!!! 👍👍
Cracking review of this lens. Only recently got this and absolutely love it. Always preferred a longer lens for landscape and now I'm itching to hit the road with it.. damn pandemic!
Great review...We use the 50-140 for several of our exterior videos.
well done presentations loveit i also have this lens and never regret buying it even though not using it as often as i should
Great review and again I agree with you.
To me this is the coolest Fuji lens, especially with the internalized focus mechanism. I eventually want to get the 16-80mm f/4 paired with the 100-400mm, but I don't know how often I'll use the 400mm reach unless I'm specifically capturing wildlife. The 50-140mm is more usable range from city to nature as you just demonstrated in this video. I love your morning photos of the deer!
I have the 100-400mm and I had the same thoughts, but I use the 400mm reach more than the rest of the lens. you will 100% use it
Keep up the great fujifilm videos
Roman, I know that sometimes I repeat myself, but I have to tell you once again that I really appreciate your product reviews, simple, easy to understand, to the point and what’s more important, no bull shit (excuse my french). I sometimes think about getting this lens but I just can’t justify it, besides primes and other zooms, I have the XF 16-80 and the XF 100-400, maybe I’ll just put the money into a new camera like the X-T4, X-T5, etc. As far as the lens hood problem, you should have it checked by Fuji, it looks very similar to the hood on the 100-400 that I have and it goes on and off really smooth. Stay safe.
My favorite lens - I use it a lot for indoor performance shots. Always wide open and hand held. Sharp with good stabilization. Twist the tripod mount slightly left allows for a good grip/zoom combination. I do admit that if moving outdoors in bright light, I opt for the 55-200 to give my arms a break.
I do landscape. I use this 80% of the time
Great review and spot on, this lens is fantastic and glad I have it. Great photos in the POV section. Would love to see the camera settings for the images. I'm still learning and would be useful :). Great video overall, thanks for sharing, also, the lens hood sucks
Great video dude! I love my xf 50-140 and xt-4 combo. Compared to my father in laws ef 70-200 and 5d combo it’s tiny. And being a black lens it is more discreet compared to all the full frame telephoto’s being a white body.
FUJIFILM XF 50-140mm f/2.8 R LM OIS WR Lens
is my favorite Fujifilm lens! So many keepers on every shots! Most of all the clarity of the lens is mind blowing sharp, it's sharper than some of my Prime Fuji Lenses! Love this lens so much! I baby mines! 😊
@@snapsbyfox actually, the lens hood makes it sexier LOL! I also like it better than my Canon 70-200L IS 2.8
Great review man really like your photo style ! this lens is really amazing
I'm curious, at what aperture and focal length did you take the photo at 9:33 ? the result is quite sharp !!!
The best is the XF 16-55! This lens is superb An regarding to this lens: I really enjoyed the last couple of shots! Some of them were reall good! Keep it up!
your review helps. And your photo shoot with the lens at the closing note is pretty good. Not many shows that.
I've been thinking about this lens for a while now, love the constructive real world review. I think when it comes to lens hoods Fujifilm just didn't really bother as my 18-55 lens hood is also not the best :)
Bought this wonderful lens when it first came out and don’t regret a single penny. Absolutely brilliant (as your wonderful images show). But, yes, the hood is crap. I can live with that though. 😊
Great review I want to buy one now
love it as well :) - as much as possible valid after 2 weeks of use I agree to all of topics you addressed - greetz
I once lost that hood in Yosemite National Park off a bridge into a raging current of water/river ;) Love the lens. My 100-400mm lens shade is the best I've ever seen on a Fuji. Very solid!
Thanks for ur great review, I applied a thin layer of vaseline in the hood ring and it works a treat
Fantastic review, i have had this lens since launched and WOW its sharper than many fuji primes ive got and ive got them all! Its a must have lens together with the 80mm macro i have and these lenses mean business . THE dogs Bollocks this lens is...
amazing video of my favorite lens.Which camera strap do you use in this video? thanks :)
Really enjoyed this review. I’ve got a years travel coming up, in lots of different countries and environments. I have a variety of primes but am considering a zoom for landscapes. However, what really caught my eye is the nave blue jacket you are wearing. What brand is it, mate?
I use mine for some aviation photography and really like it for the reasons you mentioned. Imay add a teleconverter. Where it stumbles for me is portraits as it just doesn't provide the subject isolation and bokeh as my old 70-200 lenses did on full frame. The Fuji renders as about an f4 for portraits and the bokeh isn't as nice. I solve that by using the 56 f1.2 or finding a less busy more distant background but I wish this had the 70-200 looks to it. No perfect lens I guess, there are always trade-offs.
A question: how is the subject separation at the "short end", at 50mm, but when not close to the subject, if you know what I mean? I absolutely adore how it looks in the longer end, it is mindblowing for what it is.
One thing I constantly appreciate is how you're not a pixel peeper, and got the fantastic eye and quality to back it up, it's not just an excuse for poor image quality. I love how you don't mind showing higher ISO images and zooming in for something I would see in my own images, because I prefer shooting with DR-P Weak at 400ISO and up on my X-H1, it's second base ISO is 800. It is by no means clean, but who cares. I care to see the full picture.
I trust your judgement because you back it up with fantastic shots and a down-to-earth use cases. I own an X-H1 and spend a lot of time shooting old manual 55 and 58mm f/2, and the tele end of the kit 18-200 on my Nikon D7000. This lens would probably be a fantastic choice for me with the X-H1, I see it used from 850 Eur and around $1000 on Ebay.
That focus by wire is definitely the worst aspect in the XF lenses I have or have tried, but I would forgive the 50-140, it's so good.
Lens of my dream!
Amazingly, I was also left with this monster by my late father-in-law. I have to agree with you - the quality of the build the images it produced are stunningly beautiful.
On another note, the lens hood does make it a chore to fix onto the lens!
I have this lens with the X2 TC.... it’s an epic combo @153-428.5mm; It even allows for 1:4 reproduction ratio 🔥 the 50-140 is a fantastic lens, that has replaced my 56mm F1.2, due to its greater flexibility and use cases for me (OIS, WR, Compression).
Great review and some amazing sample images!
Do you actually use this lens on a gorillapod like at 8:10 or was that just for demonstration? Gave me anxiety seeing that lol
Hey man , great video as always. I have been thinking about this lens to use on my B-camera angle for interview setups to use along the side of my 16-55mm f2.8 . What do you think ??? Or do you think that the 90mm f2 or the 80mm macro have good enough AF for sit down interview shoots??
I would get a lens hood from an alternative manufacturer. That is what I did for the 18-55 mm lens. It kept falling off and the alternative replacement I got on Am...just works perfectly
I had the 55-200, lost it for embarrassing reasons, and now I'm very close to going with the 50-140. It would mostly be used for adventure photography while mountaineering. That weight freaks me out, but it's a standard in the industry, and I feel its robustness compensates for the weight penalty. Great video
Have you bought the 50-140?
@@spartalaun I had it for a while! Used it in Alaska and loved it. Easily my favorite lens for Fuji, but I’m always partial to that focal length range.
I must have this lens!
Got the same experience with the lens hood, other than that, this is a rock-solid glass.
Does the black tape on the front and bottom of your camera serve a function or is it just for looks? Regardless, thanks for the in depth review! It's clear that you put a lot of care to plan and structure your videos.
I don't do a whole load of telephoto shooting so can't justify getting this lens unfortunately.. I use the 55-200 and up to around 135mm it's great. Beyond that it gets a bit sketchy but for the cost it's a great lens.
Great shot at 18:18 by the way :-)
Good wee review and much as I would like this fantastic lens, hard for me to justify the price Roman. 55-200mm I guess meets all my requirement thus far. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and images, keep well and keep safe.
I sold my 55-200 in order to help to buy this. In view of what I got for it, I wish I'd kept it. It is an excellent, practical lens and not too heavy.
Your video was really helpful. I decided to buy a 50-140mm lens! You have had a lot of influence in switching from Canon to Fuji. Thanks.
ua-cam.com/video/miiH4CiGUoY/v-deo.html
Have you tried with one of the teleconverters? Was thinking about picking up one of those either the 1.4 or 2.0 to pair with this instead off getting the 100-400.
Great video, I have the 50-140mm and I have the same problem with the hood as you.
@@snapsbyfox I think there are third party lens hoods on the market but to my mind why should you have to buy one this lens is expensive enough without further cost !!
Your presets are amazing!!!! Where do we get them?
My lens hood does the exact same thing and I wondered about it myself
Another one👌🏾
Hi, I've already seen most of your videos as your presentations and explanations are mostly very inspirational :) I am getting seriously interested now in this lens because there is a special cash-back offer at Fujifilm including for the 50-140 lens. I was considering buying some prime lenses first, for practical reasons, but now given a final price (minus cash-back) of approx. 850 GBP ! for this lens, shall I really say no to that offer?? If I plan taking this lens with me on hikes (together with my 16-80 for the wider shots), I mean image quality wise it's got to be much better than the 55-200? I simply believe such a special offer like now from Fuji (400 EUR cashback on the 50-140) didn't happen yet and maybe won't come back as soon again? :))
Fuji 90mm f2.0 is king .
Had both , Kept this one. It is amazingly sharp, and it's versatility made it a better all around lens than the 90mm.
90mm f2 my favourite lens, also for video 10/10 ✌️
Nice video. It would be great if Fuji would come out with a f4 version of the lens with half the size and price.
nice review, you`ve a nieuw subscriber!!
很棒的video,從13:40左右的片段解決了我到底要不要買50-140mm這顆鏡頭的疑惑(針對apsc來說這顆真的貴且重但畫質沒話說。)
I've ordered the XT4 w/ kit 16-80, as my first Fuji lens, coming over from Sony gear. I can't decide if I want this 50-140 f2.8, or 16-55 f2.8 first. hard decision. I am getting the 10-24mm mainly for RE photo gigs.
My lens hoof is exactly the same. Other than that. This lens is a must have if you have an x mount system
Awesome review. I honestly haven't been happy with the fuji lenses I've owned so now I primarily carry the Sigma 18-35 with an adapter on my X-T2. I think the weight is similar so as long as my back can take it I plan on picking this up as well as the upcoming 50mm F1.0 and round out my lens lineup with just those 3 lenses.
@@snapsbyfox Seriously the best news I've heard in a long time. I would love some native primes from Sigma!
Yes the lens hood is crappy and I tend not to bother using it because it's more trouble than it's worth, but the rest of the lens is amazing and I absolutely agree with everything that you say about it in this video. Expensive yes, but there again quality lenses are never going to be cheap.
Just get one used with TC 1,4x multiplier. I totally agree your review, that definitely helps in my choice.
How much did you get it for?
What was your experience with the TC multiplier?
@@stu-axhi, it works very nice and smooth, but in my experience you lose a little resolution on edges and in autofocus speed. I had it paired with xt3 so probably with the new ones it works better.
For me was good to have it in the bag and just use it like a “jack of all trades” when i was too much away from my subjects. But i works in news photography so i didn’t need quality at all costs.
Hope this helps.
Definitely helps, thank you!
See how the ducks beak looks? And how up close the water itself looks mushy smooth and almost like a water color or oil painting. I’ve got this lens and xh1 and I hate that look up close. Is that considered to be sharpness?
I got the 55-200 and its sharp, but would be nice to have the 2.8
I have five Fuji lenses, including the 16-80 (good carry-around) and the 100-400. The 50-140 is my favourite in terms of build and image quality. It's not TOO heavy, either.
One of my favorite lenses, likely Fuji’s sharpest zoom lens, usually the sharpest overall Fuji lens prize goes to the 90mm f2, still have yet to acquire that. Great video!
Roman Fox true! It’s a pretty niche focal length no doubt. I like the 56mm focal length better for portraits for my own work. 😊
One of my favorite lenses is the 80mm macro... in my opinion, I think that takes the cake over the 90mm... besides, sharpness isn’t everything when it comes to portraits, it can actually make the face too detailed and textured 😂
That’s what makes the 56mm so nice, it’s the Goldilocks of sharpness if you know what I mean.
The 90f2 is enough of a reason to move to Fuji. It is the best lens I have ever used.
@@jonasjung256 56 is my fav fuji lens. I manual focus with it and its amazing
Kereen👍👍👍
Hey snaps by fox, I'd say use a food safe dry lube i wish i had the link to show you. But apply a small amount and it leaves a clear little coat that stays around for a while. It is water soluble (alot of people use simmilar lubes for folding pocket knives).
@@snapsbyfox no worries hopefully more people can see this. Fuji lens hoods have always caused some minor issues.
🎁 *TIP* ❗️Try to transport the lens in a vertical position as much as possible! This is what you actually need to do because of the electronically powered linear motor. You do not want the lens mechanism to slam from the front to the back on the inside of the objective when powered off. Keeping attention to these mentioned points will seriously lower the change of wear and breaks...
I hope this tip will bless anyone who reads it.
Love ❤️ and 🙏🏻 blessings from Amsterdam Holland 🇳🇱
So your advice is contradicting that this lense built for use and abuse
@@arturaszaleskis8907 - No it is all about longevity of the objectives lifespan and has all to do with non locked design of the linear motor. Some parts of the objective are as a magnetic levitation train on rails which can move freely on the rails. This design is use so you can focus with fast speed.
Want. WAAAAAANT. Trouble is I'd need to sneak it indoors without Mrs T spotting me, or reading my credit card statement, and I don't think that's gonna be a runner. Thanks for a good review. Have you tried this with the 1.4 or 2x extender/adapter thing?
Agree again with you. Great lens! My go to lens when at the paddock to shoot horses. Its fast an superb sharp. The 50mm f1 lens hood is how it should be. By the way do you use Lightroom?
@@snapsbyfox I saw some worms on the duck picture And I was thinking was it a Lightroom or C1 edit :)
I have the same exact lens and I have the exact same lens hood problems and I’ve heard this from many other users as well
Every one of my Fujifilm plastic lenses has this same issue. I miss shots all the time as they go on misaligned. Frankly, as I wrestle with them any by-standers think I don’t know what the Hell I’m doing. I do love this particular lens BTW. Do you use a UV lens protector. Would this save wear and tear on the front of the lens? I’ll have to look at mine now.
I have the same problem with the lens hood on my lens. BUT I think it's even worse on mine since when I twist it it's REALLY slow to move and it feels like I'm going to break it every single time. Massively annoying part of an otherwise great lens.
Buongiorno from Italy :)
I'm going to Hawaii in a couple months and trying to figure out whether to bring this or the 16-80mm F4. I do realize the 50-140 is pretty huge though which is why I'm having this first world problem.
hmmm tricky one as I feel the extra reach of the 50-140 can come in useful. My suggestion is the 50-140 and rent the 10-24 f4.... you're basically covered apart from the 35mm which im sure you can get around
Is it sharper than new 70-300mm? And AF is better than 70-300 with Linear motor?
Did you ever take the Len’s to Fiji to explain the issues you had
What is up with the hood wearing out the lens paint? Shit. Never had that kind of problem with my Fuji lenses, but i will admit the 50-200mm hood seems to mount and dismount kind of painfully. Compared to say the 80mm which glides on like its lubed. The primes also all have smooth mounting.
Nice review! It seems like to me, that you are using Lightroom. I've seen a worm effect when you zoomed into the duck picture. Capture 1 does a lot better job in my opinion, what do you think?
@@snapsbyfox Agreed, thank you for your answer
Does someone use it in combo with the teleconverter 1.4x? I'm in doubt for buying this 50-140 in combo with the 1.4x or buying the 100-400... I would like to use it mostly for naturalistic shots but also portraits
how about a comparison with 50-200? I could assist
Is focus breathing an issue?
Hi I saw you were using XH-1 with IBIS. combined with the OIS in the lens, is the stabiliztion made even better?
So the OIS is not additive between the XH-1 and this lens???
Which one is better 55 200mm or 50 140mm
