🎧 LISTEN TO THE ICEBERG: We have a lovely and immersive SPOTIFY playlist available with some personal favorites out of all these albums. If an album wasn’t available, I included a different track from the artist in question. Unless we’re at the last two entries because, no, we’re not doing that. 🏔️ ICEBERG INSPIRATIONS
This iceberg includes a fair number of personal picks, but it was inspired by some great posts. Especially this one / dark_music_iceberg and this one / disturbingdepressing_a... .

NOTES
Gulaghh/Stalaggh and Hanatarash have been discussed at length in our previous videos, so we have opted to skip their albums for this round.
There are obviously thousands of black/death/gore metal albums which we could not fit in this list. We have opted to include some of the most noteworthy and seminal albums (limited to one album per artist) of each genre… we could make a new iceberg entirely based on darker music genres alone (though we’d like to leave this endeavor to real experts) , but this is meant to be introductory and broader in scope.
Jazz is underrepresented in this particular iceberg and we hope to dedicate a full video on some of the most peculiar releases in this genre in the future. Please suggest some picks to educate use below!

VIDEOS OF NOTE (seriously, watch these) - Розваги
"Axis Power-inspired imagery" might be my most favorite politically correct term ever made.
Gotta put that IB History to some good use!
I still remember my first time listening to Buyer’s Market. It really made me reconsider the line I drew between artistic expression and just straight up exploitation. It’s easily one of the worst albums I’ve ever heard. It’s easy to see why it’s always at the bottom of these music icebergs.
A lot of stuff on here is fantastic though (Jane Doe, Caligula, etc) and there was actually quite a lot here I haven’t heard of before. Great video as always.
When I read Jim and Debbie Goad's "ANSWER Me!" zine, literally the only piece I could not finish reading in that entire series was a harrowing screed in the Rape Issue written by Peter Sotos, wherein an encounter is detailed from the perspective of a sinister, mentally-deranged man who abducts, tortures, and verbally eviscerates a prepubescent girl. It caused a vile, repulsive feeling in the pit of my guts to slowly brew; he made me feel like such a lightweight in a way I've really never known.
@@hamupinhere Would you happen to have a link to this? I’m morbidly curious.
@@lightingpikachu9 No link, unfortunately ("unfortunately" used very loosely here I think), only the physical copy of the zine here on the desk in front of me, as a matter of fact. For your reference, the name of the short story is called "Quality Time" and features illustrations by Trevor Brown; the illustrations admittedly make the whole experience 100x worse (depictions of a young girl, bound and slowly being dismembered as the story progresses). Also included are photos of children, chiefly among them a child with a physical deformity that has apparently left him or her without eye sockets. You might be able to Google it, possibly? I don't know.
I mean even now re-skimming through this, it's a total of 11 pages long. It's no wonder I bailed out 1/4th of the way through.
You should definitely consider making an iceberg around the amount of "Blogrock" albums and artists scattered around 2000s Myspace and what not that were only available through blogs and what not, nice rabbit hole to go through and is incredibly interesting to look at groups before they got signed or started on bandcamp
THIS IS SUCH AN INTERESTING IDEA! I'm a late millennial who's been devouring the hipster runoff archives and your comment it just making me more inclined to dive deep into that late 00s early 10s nostalgia even more
A specific genre iceberg would be cool, like Metal or Hip-Hop.
Will keep this one in mind!
I think experimental in general would be more interesting, but it would be a lot harder to find.
@@user-wx2ek3uv1i There’s some pretty insane stuff lurking beneath the metal iceberg though
The fact that there could be loads of albums like buyers market that we don’t know is terrifying
Not just Buyer's Market, it's almost confirmed that Zenjin has made more albums like Pseudoscorpion, and you can be 99% sure that such an infamous album has likely been imitated.
You have such a calm and soft voice for the wild fucking topics discussed in the video, makes me feel at ease.
42:45 nice, i love that video a lot. gotta appreciate the people in that venue for being open minded to witness noise music live
I don't know that it's all these videos but I'm growing quite fond of harsh noise send help nevertheless amazing artistry
I know I make the joke about being on an FBI list lot, but this time I might have actually gotten myself a record somewhere, guys.
What iceberg are we doing next?
PS: Thanks for 1k, can’t wait to share more trauma with you all.
Disturbing songs iceberg? (idk what would be featured on the lower levels, but stuff like "Gloomy Sunday" would probably be on there)
@@kendradehnert8786 David Byrne horses
Jazz iceberg? You might be surprised where it leads
@@Bearj64 I would be super interested in one of these but I definitely need some input for this genre!
@@SetsAndTheCD no idea where to begin on this one, but it’s a deep rabbit hole that few know about, I’d say mostly players of the genre know about it, I’d begin the search there. But it can be disturbing, incomprehensible, or down right deranged
ngl I was hoping for Jandek's "Ready for the House" and stuff by The Gerogerigegege, or even Suicide's debut self-titled somewhere
Still a lot of good choices on here oof
Collab with Pad Chennington when? Seriously you are doing an amazing job. Keep up the great work!
That would be my dream to do a vaporwave iceberg with him!
I was friends with a member of dragged into sunlight as a kid. Nice guy, still in touch with him from time to time
Dragged into sunnlight are on here???
Indeed!
I’m so happy that one of my favorite bands Xiu Xiu (pronounced “sheeyoo sheeyoo”) is getting recognition! I loved this video also
Spooky... now it's time to listen to every album talked about
Check out the spotify playlist to get started!
A bit sad indwell by methwitch didnt show up on the iceberg. Definitely one of the darkest albums I've ever listened to, both in terms of production and lyrical content
Your voice is so soothing, it puts me to sleep, but the subject matter keeps me up. Perfect.
I've been looking forward to this so much
Was expecting Emit - The Dark Bleeding to be at level 5 or 6. That ep is really something special, like. how do you make an ep to sound like the suffering of hell itself. There is also an album version called Emit - The Dark Bleeding gods.
The creator was pretty much insane and had a bunch of thoughs that would consider him an insane person. I think the purpose of the album was to describe space, his vision of space is horrifying. Also the creator is also an extremist (politically) and is also in some type of crazy cult of what i've heard, but I don't know if thats true or atleast to this day true.
Merzbow is literally one of the most tame and entry level noise projects out there im tired of normies overhyping him like his music is actually intense or something
Who would you recommend as more extreme harsh noise artists? I'm curious. We featured the record because of the inspirations to death metal as a harsh noise concept which was an interesting angle.
Agreed. I'm sick of him being used as the gold standard for noise, or just all experimental music. His shit is literally just static. Wow, so intense and loud. Listen to Pinknoise by Junko & Mattin or something then come tell me "oh em gee merzbow is like soooo frickin weird man haha funny noise man"
The thing is people need a gateway. They see the most mainstream noise artist and spread it due to it being a very impactful genre. Most people talking about noise aren’t experts on it. Me included I don’t know many and I’m not even that much of a fan of it so maybe I’m wrong idk
@@memondayz ”His shit is literally just static.” Nope, that would be Vomir, not Merzbow. Look up Vomir - harsh noise wall.
@@SNegrea update it’s a year later and I am an actual noise fan now. Knowing how diverse a genre HNW is I get the stereotypes and jokes even less
I loved seeing Lingua Ignota and Portal both featured on here! Thanks for all the details and variety of genres and sounds 🖤
Another amazing vid
Gonna be fun watching this channel grow with all that great content
Another amazing fan! Thank you so much for supporting the channel!
Good video, big fan of transylvanin hunger and when the kite string pops
Really love this channel, can't believe it's only at 1k
Thank you!
I can definitely see your channel becoming pretty big soon,
wish you the best regarding that. Anyway great video, really makes me wanna
relisten or check out every one of these records.
Btw: your channel info suggests you're on rym, mind sharing? :^)
Thank you! Spotify playlist is where it's at to get started. My RYM was made before the channel so it's still private for now but I should make a new one for Sets & The CD!
Good idea, I'd definitely be interested to see what else you're into :)
@@MetalStormPromotion as a sneak preview I'm a huge shoegazer, I have a soft spot for broadcast and stereolab and 60s score music... and.... yes, disco. Also the King Crimson tattoo probably gives me away.
@@SetsAndTheCD Great stuff, Broadcast are for sure way up there for me as well, Shoegaze in general actually
Great videos! Was a little surprised to see no mention of G.R. by Deathpile.
will have to add that one to my list!
Another fantastic video!
Another fantastic cat!
@@SetsAndTheCD His name is Finnjo and he's the real deal!
Yaaaaaay, new video!
The darkest album I’ve ever heard was Snuff by Crowhurst. It’s,,,,, exactly what you think it is.
Great work on these vids!
thanks for mentioning Neurosis (they recorded a great record with Jarboe (Swans)
Jamie and Angela would be greatful you mentioning the xiu xiu record, and Douglas P is always an emotional roller coaster
Diamanda's first record is an audio terror - thanks for rating it to well.
Any justice yeldham or bull in heaven album could be on this list. Great video
You have had some incredible albums on these guides, but I can't help but sit here someone in bewilderment at the fact that you dip your audio whatever harsh or controversial words come up and yet these are some of the most brutal and soul rendering albums of all time. I appreciate your good work, but grow up they're just words. When did we all become so frail and easily offended/traumatized ? Thank you for the introduction to some new artist I look forward to more in the future
check the description
i love this video your voice is a bliss
Paysage d’Hiver is one of my all-time favorite black metal artists. His music makes me sleepy, to be honest, it’s almost like white noise. I like listening to it when I lay down and head to bed. I can see why it might be off-putting to the average listener, though.
Same thing with Darkthrone’s Transilvanian Hunger. It’s cold and desolate, but incredibly comforting at the same time. Listening to it with your eyes closed in a dark, cold room is the best way to experience it. It’s an otherworldly experience, I recommend trying it.
I had guessed at least three albums in each tier before watching)))
Like the roko reference
When a new Sets and the CD video comes out I always make sure to have a can of oxygen on hand- the surprises revealed in some of these icebergs are enough to induce a heart attack
Wait, why is there Soilent Green and Down live footage during the When the Kite String Pops section?
OMG a the clip of the Taiwanese talent show noise artist is killer
new merzbow!
Is it bad that I’d previously heard of at least 1 album in all 6 categories?
Surprised Korn’s first album isn’t somewhere on this iceberg
im curious now, elaborate?
@@biggestastiest Well the subject matter of every song is dark and depressing the instruments and vocals are creepy and haunting the lead singer “ Johnathon Davis starts to cry after every song on the album and the last song on the album Daddy is about John being raped as a child
@@ooo1308 thank you for taking the time to write, ill give it a listen!
@@biggestastiest what did u think of it
@@ooo1308 i listened to the song Daddy a little while back, it definitely was really uncomfortable for me so i had to tap out before the last 10 or so seconds of the song. however, nu-metal isn't really my thing so it wasn't really my taste, but i did really appreciate that they made the song and put Jon's story out there.
Heck yeah
Steve Albini produced Tweez, Slint first album. He wasn't involved in Spiderland.
Thank you for the correction!
5:55 Swans is number two in my top list of favorite bands, and I get why Public Castration was your choice here. But I would've personally put either Swans Is Dead as a live choice (because Jarboe that's why), or The Seer, cause no other album in their discography made me quite uncomfortable like that album. But to each their own I guess.
Let's be real though.
if you were gonna put any Swans album art on a t-shirt, Public Castration is always going to take first prize
@@honeycomblord9384 i have that shirt so you're absolutely right about that
The seer is my personal favorite swans tbh but I had to hold on to the iceberg's spirit!
42:50 more audible than a discord call that’s for damn sure
Haven't started but I hope that A promise by xiu xiu, some c93, ye tieta wo so by josh laryea and grey data by five star hotel are here
You will not be disappointed!
surprised not to see sunn O)))’s Black One here, unless another sunn album was here i don’t remember
Yes we had Monoliths and Dimensions in part 1. Both would have fit well but we liked the instrumentation as an interesting aspect of the first.
@@SetsAndTheCD ohh sick
I know the iceberg is done but if I did it there would definitely me some Arca , pharmakon , Blanck maas and some more modern noise like that because when I first heard contact that scared the shit outta me
There is quite a bit of misinformation about PS here. I won't explain anything myself, but researching it yourself would be a lot worse. Just, *_don't_* go anywhere near it no matter what. It's as easy to find as it is illegal: VERY.
Anyway, good video.
I can’t believe Soundtracks For The Blind isn’t anywhere on the list
We included Good Idea because we wanted to keep it one artist per entry but I would love to break down the entire Swans universe someday!
@@SetsAndTheCD I didn’t realize you made the list
@@SetsAndTheCD I honestly figured it was either going to be Soundtracks or The Seer but nice job with keeping things unexpected
I hope you put radio werewolf on here. Nick shreck is anton lavey s son in law.
Shout out to The Body
This video is great I just feel like the background music is too quiet
thank you I will keep that in mind!
Body Count was investigated by the fucking FBI because their song kicked too much ass lmao, I got one of the OG CD’s and I play it every so often cause it’s a solid album
For real! So ahed of their time
Death in junes wall is a damn good album!!!!
Kinda odd to see Revenge on the same level as Buyer's Market and Pseudoscorpion but anyway...
YABBSOR CULT ETERNAL.
Playing with the video's playback speed is a piece of music all its own. I'm not even certain if the entire video is in English. X D
Merzbon't.
And once again I find myself listening to far too much of the lowest tier...
i find your lack of Jandek disturbing
We talk about Jandek in the Shock Artists iceberg if you want to check it out
You're pronouncing 'harrowing' wrong. It's not HORROWing, it's HARROWing. Like 'harrow' as in 'wheelBARROW'.
Long live Throbbing Gristle
Shout out to The Body
