I've seen a lot of big names like Van Halen, Kiss, Nazareth, Supertramp, Bob Seger etc but the best concert I ever attended was April Wine in Edmonton in 1993
I'll never forget walking into a school dance a few minutes late and this was playing as I walked in. Kids were dancing and I was just trying to find where the girls were sitting. I was a shy girl, so walking in to those cow bells did my head in. But, what a time we had that night and I saw April Wine in concert many times after that. I must say we had the time of our lives back then because of the music!!
Wow. I was 13 when this song was out and I too walked into our school dance late. It was dark, so dark one had to look down so as not to step on things. And that cowbell started as i Performed my late walk of shame and it did me in as well, i mean who needs that beautiful sound of a mix of cowbell and railroad crossing when one wants to be unnoticed. And i found all my buds on the far left bleachers, sitting there as though a mid 70's sausage party.
Ha! It was a mid-70s sausage party. The girls were on the other side of the gym trying to figure out the dynamics of line-dancing cos you shy boys weren't asking!
It's actually a fire bell - maybe from a school. It currently sits on a cymbal stand in Kingston Ontario at Joe's MILL (musical instrument lending library). Jerry Mercer lives in the area and I'm assuming he donated it.
Jamie Rieger- Actually, as a drummer, I can say 100% that its actually a fire engine bell, and not a cowbell. 👍I saw April Wine in a Montreal bar in 1999, and drummer Jerry Merser had it hanging on stage as part of his drum kit.
Underrated band. These guys did some stellar tunes, messed around with time, threw folks off.. Say Hello, Oowatanite, etc. Excellent drumming. excellent tunes. Nuff said.
I worked for a railway for 30+ years. Every time we set off the railway crossing by some grain elevators the bell went ballistic to the beat of this songs bells and I started singing.the intro.🤠
One time when I was young my mom and I were on a trip and this came on right as we came up to a rail crossing. Needless to say my mom was confused, I knew what was happening and struggled to keep it to myself.
Another great April Wine song. It's a shame that this Canadian band did not receive the recognition it deserved. There are so many good tunes from them, and hardly anyone realizes they were a Canuck fixture for two decades. I recall listening to them on AM radio in the early 70s and then on a local FM rock station in the 80s. Great memories when you hear one of these tunes.
Now i ve heard this for the first time in my hard rocking life, i cant really decide which riff is better. This one or the i like to rock. Though the like to rock is heavier im leaning to this one! UNBELIEVABLE!
I Believe that Canadians have it all Just like the rest of the world too ,but I Would have to say that when it comes to Music And Songs Were on top The musicians ARE Just like gifted people are In sports. we've got what it takes. Now you know the rest of the Story.
Saw them in the early 2000s when drummer was 66 yrs old. Drummer did a 20 minute drum solo that was awesome then stood up and said “Not bad for a 66 year old!” Mostly baby boomers attended, and some brought their kids where I heard some say “You listened to this band when you were younger? They are frickin awesome!
I can proudly say that I saw this band open their set with this song in front of 40,000 nut jobs at " Grand Slam Super Jam '80 " at Busch Stadium in St. Louis . What a day ! Super hot and not a cloud in the sky . Drugs and booze galore . Crowd getting sprayed with fire hoses . " Acid Rescue " was set up in both dugouts on either side of the field . Fights left and right . Endless firecrackers and projectiles . Banners getting set on fire . Lotsa nudity . Bumping into friends everywhere . I got a helluva sunburn and left that show comfortably numb . Just an intense atmosphere ! Shooting Star , April Wine , Judas Priest , Journey , and Sammy Hagar headlined . April Wine and Judas Priest were a devastating 1 - 2 punch for this kid ! Aaaahhh , the good ol' daze......
What a magical memorable day it was! Definitely remember my sunburn as well. On the way home to Florissant, all of us in my buds Mustang, one of us randomly burst out with "Ding ding ding ding ding"! This song and Sammy's Trans Am entrance have stayed with me all these years.
As a young lad I remember getting high with some friends and this song comes on and holy sheet , I thought a freaking train was coming!! We weren’t even near a train track !! Lol
OMG. To funny!!! Takes me back to those stoner days of yore. Listen to Alan Parsons I Robot 🤖 in the dark after your gummy kicks in. It’ll blow your mind. Best stoner album ever.

Proud Canadian myself and this band never gets old!

This band should have been in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame before the paint dried.
Agreed.
They are criminally underrated.
No.
They would rather induct Dolly Parton, Emenem, and Jay Z because apparently they are more "Rock".
Totally agree! RIP Myles
