I am 63 years old. Many many years ago when I was a young man in my twenties. I inspired to be a machinist. I went to a free community workshop to get introductory lessons to machining. The next thing I did was go to a machine shop and introduce myself as a novice Machinist. I asked that I received OJT. My first task was to work with a Bridgeport Mill identical to that one. It was fun I enjoyed it. My next task was to work on an automatic screw machine. If you don't know what that is look it up. What a nightmare. I spent two months on that machine. It was too much an overwhelming. I left a bad taste in my mouth so I quit. I wish things had gone differently for me. I think that if things went differently for me I would have made a good Machinist.

An annular cutter or rota-broach would be easier on the mill

In this case I used some spindle oil. I was just testing with a crappy drill and seeing if the power feed made a substantial difference. In the future if I was drilling holes that size, I’d get better drill bits and use proper lubricants.
