Repairing a Broken Vise - Project
Переглядів 47321 день тому
Here’s a fun little project, the repair of an old vise. It will live on to be clamping for some years to come! #diy #diyprojects
Für mich wäre es ein Schatz
What a score
More power needed for 1/8" hole in pine! Argh argh argh
Should be more costly, sir
Looks like old Soviet NS-12 drill press. Probably NS-12 was copied from this machine.

And it has 5" stroke instead of barely 3-1/2" you get now.
That’s a good point!
There is one similar to this but a table saw 😂😂😂 it's sitting outside covered
I am 63 years old. Many many years ago when I was a young man in my twenties. I inspired to be a machinist. I went to a free community workshop to get introductory lessons to machining. The next thing I did was go to a machine shop and introduce myself as a novice Machinist. I asked that I received OJT. My first task was to work with a Bridgeport Mill identical to that one. It was fun I enjoyed it. My next task was to work on an automatic screw machine. If you don't know what that is look it up. What a nightmare. I spent two months on that machine. It was too much an overwhelming. I left a bad taste in my mouth so I quit. I wish things had gone differently for me. I think that if things went differently for me I would have made a good Machinist.
a full size mill like that is wayyyyyyyyy better than a ryobi drill press....i worked on an EZ trak and man i wish i owned that!
My technical school had still such a material in the '90's. It was a gift from the industry, which was modernizing.
Beautiful. I bought a small Chinese mill/drill/lathe…. Made a few things but I really need to take a class.
Not a single person out there that knows what this is, ever thought it was trash. I give my Bridgeport a goodnight kiss every night.
It will hold in that corner of your shop perfectly
Beautiful old machine! I love knee mills where a guy can take a hunk of metal into his hands and manipulate the machine to make things of Beauty out of nothing. Love it when it has a shaper attachment. I learned to use that shaper in my tool and die apprenticeship. Magical machinery- good cleaning and battleship paint and she'll be making chips-congrats bud
Nice vise!
Thanks! Glad at least one person noticed!
How much is dirt cheap?
Trade for one day of labor.
A brilliant millng machine...
It's more like 1/3rd from the end. If it pivots on the exact end its concave.
Bad messure
An annular cutter or rota-broach would be easier on the mill
I will look into those, thanks!
Nice old milling machine.
My brother has a mill almost just like that one. That Mill will last forever if taken care of.
A clapped out Bridgeport, I hope our Canuckistani uncle is alright
Very nice video. Great milling machine. Nice work mister
USE SOME CUTTINGOIL!!!!!
In this case I used some spindle oil. I was just testing with a crappy drill and seeing if the power feed made a substantial difference. In the future if I was drilling holes that size, I’d get better drill bits and use proper lubricants.
I'll give ya $350 for it
At this point it has a new elevating screw and nut, ball screws on the x and y axis, three axis power feeds, top end of the heads rebuilt, a power drawbar, 6 electric outlets, a bijur lube pump dedicated to the z screw. There’s not one single missing bolt or broken handle, everything functions properly. Fairly accurate, you can hold .002” tolerances pretty easy. Also has a shaper attachment. So I’d have to let it go for a little more than $350😅
it looks like it was in a fire?
That’s very possible haha!
That’s the wotan floor mill at Enprotech in Cleveland Ohio!
Yep!
Great old Bridgeport.
Good luck with it. They are great, flexible machines.
Bridgeport brilliant machines, indestructible!!
Jet wash it, paint it, you could sell it for 1,000s.
Bridgeport excellent !
My first job in 1975 was on a clousing lathe with a travel dial. It was handy & could of used it many times since😊
That Bridgeport is super sweet. Those are the Cadillac of end mills.
Why did you put your travel dial in the way of chips flying on the travel dial should have put it on the other side of carriage to protect it from chips
Honestly I just used what material that was around. Didn’t want to spend any money at all. If I mounted it on the back side it would interfere with the lead screw dial. I did end up putting felt material to prevent chips from making it to the dial wheel.
Very long pull-bar. WTH?
What is one worth in condition like this?
I think it depends on where you’re located, around here in Ohio you can find them for $1500.00 or so. But for that money they’re in pretty rough condition. Broken handles, loose tolerances, stuff like that.
One man's trash is usually another man's cleaned up repainted trash.
Great video 🙌 love it
Thank you! My goal was to make a ten minute video.. that didn’t workout😅 Glad you enjoyed!
How does a machine look like a piece of junk?
2023 I got a J series Bridgeport at auction, "dirt cheap" no one wanted the manual unit. My son will still be using it when it is 100 years old.
That’s awesome! My little daughters like it, hopefully they’ll want to keep it as well.
The Bridgeport…..one of the best machines ever made. 👍🏼
That! ...will never be trash.
That wouldn't look like trash in my garage.
Score!!!
Right on brother, now u need a lathe
Treasure comes when chips are flying. 😂
I would eat my hat for a deal like that....(and its an old manky hat too)
YUP Best machine Tool EVER MADE I have SEVEN of them in my old shop . They STILL get the Job done ! One of them is a 1944 Model ! : ) about the 875 th one made
