Well, this band was part of the third wave of grunge/alternative and didn't hold a candle to Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam and Nirvana, but they were still miles better than pretty much any of the so-called "rock" bands from the 2000's.
They weren't serious, they're a light-hearted rock band. I don't think they were trying to be that grungy of a band at all. The singer now plays music for children as "Caspar Babypants."
Like it better than the recorded version, and that is one of my favorite 90's songs. Paul's band playing during the interlude was a very nice addition.
Big muffs and fuzz galore. Fuzz pedals tend to be pretty picky with full chords, but that's not a problem when you have 2-3 strings on your guitar and bass. PUSA rocks and yes, the tone is awesome.
The fact that a band this quirky and 'uncool' could be on national TV is why the 90s were the last great time for rock music. Still good bands out there but the mainstream is just vanilla plain crap.
I don’t think they are necessarily uncool or quirky. They just went against the grain. Besides, they have some qualities that most alternative bands had at that time. Also, it does take talent to capture attention and make the audience feel something...otherwise, you are just another manufactured band that everyone can smell a mile away...
@@josephsuarez9594 That's true, you're right, it does take talent! It's just not necessarily technical ability. Which is totally fine by me! I prefer it this way.
Great performance. I'm pretty sure that the Pall Schaffer band "mess up" (especially the way the sax player plays) was done on purpose as a joke, probably as part of both Scaffer and PUSA's sense of humor.
Yes, they are still very much around. Austin Lucas caught you up pretty well. They did a northeast tour a few weeks back, and were still incredible. They haven't lost their touch at all. Check out their official website for the updated tour schedule! It sounds like they're back for a while!
gotcha, I thought I heard about that awhile ago. I was curious to know if they planned on going active again. Although they did release a live album recently I think
They (Minus Dave; Another member named Andrew plays guitar with them these days) Still tour a little bit so perhaps they will. Chris mostly works on Children's music as "Caspar Babypants" now if I'm up to date on it.
You're right! in the 90's we all could find some amazing artits just like Presidents of the United States Of America, sadly it's not the same today, most rock bands have died around the planet, all we can see it's crappy music that's called "iphone tracks" this time, stupid celebrities get paid for selling big shit to teens or someone right now, look at mtv or any tv channel, no true rock,no true lyrics,no true record companies,no boybands,no true pop,tv and radio only promote rubbish stuff, so sad
The bald fella is playing a guitar that has two bass strings on it. The other guy's guitar has 3 regular guitar strings. So in total, this band only has 5 strings. Its a pretty unique setup that only they are known for.
Today's world really needs bands like this.
U Got That Right1

@@hinjurock not the same genre at all, and these dudes are better. none of that depressive shit
Totally
Love the late nite band jamming with them.
That is one of the best live drum sounds I've ever heard. So full and clear
I heard he played on a couple Helios Creed albums and Helios always had rockin drum tracks.
The snare is very likely triggers and samples for a gig like this
the presidents had great balance, a lot of bands have too much vocal and/or guitar sound
There live sound and tone was made specially for the audience. Great live band.
Does anyone know what that small cymbal he’s using is called?
Like it better than the recorded version, and that is one of my favorite 90's songs.
Paul's band playing during the interlude was a very nice addition.
This is one of the most underrated bands of my lifetime
If you disagree then fucking fight me
Gah....that guitar tone is just killer. Love the little riff tagged on at the end of each measure in the verse. Such a thick and meaty tone. Love it!
That second-to-last sentence. Just replace tone with cock.
That is me about half an hour ago.
Seriously. Other good guitar tones from the 90's bands Smashing Pumpkins, Weezer.
Big muffs and fuzz galore.
Fuzz pedals tend to be pretty picky with full chords, but that's not a problem when you have 2-3 strings on your guitar and bass.
PUSA rocks and yes, the tone is awesome.
Dude they played with 2 strings.
I wouldn't want to be breaking a string
Three dudes, one drummer, 5 strings.. that's all you need.
The band has stated that they never officially released the debut album on vinyl, and yer Letterman has got one in his hands.
I love these guys and they always seemed like they were having fun. And smart. Smart songs with smart lyrics. So good.
wonderfull 90s
One of the best bands of the 90s
That Sonics shirt!!!!! AH!!
Such a fun band.
I love the smile chris puts on his face whenever he's singing
Does anyone have a time machine? I need to go back to 1995
the great memories... the great bands... simple three chords! simple 3 piece line up!! Simple!!!.. Back to the 90's.... that's pUNk rOCk!!
The fact that a band this quirky and 'uncool' could be on national TV is why the 90s were the last great time for rock music.

Couldn't agree more mate, couldn't agree more.
Now nowadays all it takes to be famous is just looks and not talent I miss when artists just needed talent and not plastic surgery...
@@eatingicepops I wouldn't necessarily say PUSA were that talented... lotta spirit though. I miss spirit more than talent.

Classy!!! that's a live performance.
They’re really damn good live
Love the Paul jam, it is always a great interaction with the musicians.
Who’s listening in 2021?
Great performance. I'm pretty sure that the Pall Schaffer band "mess up" (especially the way the sax player plays) was done on purpose as a joke, probably as part of both Scaffer and PUSA's sense of humor.
I can't see or hear the sax player
The Presidents of The United States of America i like this band!
OMG MAN, SO MANY GREAT MEMORIES!!!!!! I WAS ONLY FIFTEEN AND LOVED THIS BAND AND I ACTUALLY REMEMBER SEEING IT LIVE! :D GREAT VIDEO BY THE WAY
Damn. If these guys were to go on a tour again and come to my town, I'd buy tickets in a heartbeat!
Sounds like a mess when the letterman band joins in lol
I think so too but I think that it works.
Yeah, I thought that was very unfortunate for the band. This was, after all, their debut on national television.
He said “Everybody take a solo!”
no wave
wrong its great
Beautiful!! :')
Waaaaoooowwwww...!!!
these guys should a 25 year anniversary tour with original line up

Damn, they rocked that shit!
Too rad
Making the 2-string bass cool.
I watched this in 1995 and thought "why does the dude's guitar only have 2 or 3 strings on it?"
my rhodesian ridgeback died on this day- lump's bday- our lab is on her way to the rainbow bridge
Jason Dave and Chris should do a reunion
ok first point , one of the best live bands to be on letterman . point 2 whoa paul has hair hahahaha
1:32 cymbals
Woody harrelson and matthew mcconaghuey
He’s hank he’s hank he’s hank the angry dwarf
She spent her 20's between the sheets... yep, sounds about right.
very cool song!!!! but what about the musicians in 1:28 hahaha
guitbass?
Bassitar, I believe.
According to davie504, its a guitass
What the hell was Schaefer thinking, he ruined it!
Ah, back when mainstream music was good. :D
I thought this song was about Gump.
That wasn't until 1996 when _Bad Hair Day_ came out. :D
Chris is acting like there is no better place than right now.
He's not acting
*at
Where is the bassist?
Chris Ballew has just 2 bass strings on his guitar.
Killer soul by paul

No bass guitar in this band?

Lump sat alone in a boggy marsh, totally motionless except for a hard.
COCK
I assume that horrible sound is coming from Paul Schaffer’s obnoxious (typical for him) keyboard playing.
Looks like the bit went over your head.
Pusa: No bass
Davie 504: Wait that´s illegal
@@cyber3167 isnt that a melody maker ii
@@francoaranda6499 Yes
Who the fuck needs 6 strings anyway ;)
WHY IN THE WORLD THEY RUINED THEIR SONG IN A LIVE PERFORMANCE?????
always hated that Sonic's logo design....
5 strings and a drummer
a stupid joke made over a year ago. How did you even find this comment???
This is grunge music. OK, folks ?
is it tho?
Honestly Paul’s organ doesn’t sound good on this with POTUSA
Paul has fucked up more songs than I can imagine. I wonder if the musical guest can ask that he not play along.
Leave it to Paul Schafer and crew to screw up a great song.
They were clearly asked to do that by the band as a bit.
paul shaffer is so annoying.
Fuckin Letterman’s band ruining songs
Keyboard guy needs to go.
