Rob, Lee.....you need to have a "Guitar Olympics" with all of you guys (Rabea , Matt , Pete Lee , Dave ,etc) -string change timed -pick throw -rig setup timed -pedal board wiring timed -carrying amp and guitar up stairs not my idea, but i decided to post it again to see if maybe theres an option for this to be a thing :D
Cheers as always for all the positive comments - I'm really digging the backing tracks that Pete has written. And big love to Rory for making these videos so much fun to watch - I never know what to expect & I'm in the video! Cheers!!
Great playing, Capt, and I love your channel(s). Any chance you'll make Pete's backing tracks available as their own thing? Would love to use them as jam reference tracks.
in a conversation I had with Leo at a 1991 NAMM show. He himself told me that George and Freddy were responsible for all the original guitars "designs" after his original Broadcaster design. He approved and added his touches, but never designed any complete guitars until G&L and even then, most were rehashes of earlier "designs" Leo himself stopped me mid sentence because I was talking to him full bore about new concepts in guitar designs and he said "Son, You know I'm an Amp man right?".. it Stopped me cold. He then went on to tell me that "back in those days", he couldn't play guitar or even tune one without a tuner. and really had left all "design issues" to George and Freddy after the first P-bass.. which was mostly George's idea. He also went on to say that from a financial point of view, it was the P-Bass of 1951-2 that "solidified" the Fender Musical Instrument company into the Instrument Market force that is has become.. the sales of P-Basses were 5 to 1 over guitars. The Amp sales were always solid from the very start. but according to Leo himself, if not for the highly profitable P-Bass sales, Fender might have actually Dropped all guitar production. in 1953 ( 1 year prior to the Stratocasters design) So ALL Fender Strat Players owe their Strats to all the 1950s BASS PLAYERS!
@@zoranallen5205 might not stick as well, but not for lack of trying though :) we bassists may as well keep it amongst ourselves, after all, it's rare to find a guitarist who can competently hold down a bassline with the proper techniques without the use of pick or going out of time. to those who can, kudos to you.
Rob's been favouring the more soulful side of his playing in recent videos & sounds great. I like when he lets a bend hang for a bit longer before firing the next salvo.
I totally agree! Rob was getting a lot of flack from what I saw in the comments on these videos for a while and I thought they were incredibly harsh.... everyone has a few licks they love to play and kind of naturally go to when they pick up a guitar. This though.... was him jumping nay heroically leaping off of whatever plateau he was on to much greater heights! Very soulful bud
The telecaster. It's reliable, built like a tank. As well as being tonally flexible. And a telecaster can cost 200000 euros or 100 euros and still feel the same.
Rob is so much better when he plays a tune. The generic shedding gets a bit tiring and makes videos difficult to watch. So hopefully this will become the norm for the future. Capt, has always been tuneful and glad his influence is taking hold.

watched the video. I've seen Rob play like this plenty of times. I fail to understand what you're all talking about. It seems people like to fixate on a certain aspect they like or dislike and blow it out of proportion. Rob has always played like this. He just hasn't always done it every single video. Not taking a shot at Lee or Rob, just all the people who fawn over the feel and soul they hear in a couple of comfortably middle class guys playing. BEST JAM INTRO EVER !!!! I watch you guys for 7 years , since Gibson vs Epiphone . You guys are part of my every day ! My favorite Leo's guitar is Music man guitars.
Lee is a bloody good guitar player. He always has been. However, he's been improving much more lately. I've been watching since almost the first video.
he's got the soul for this genre, with better notes choices now he is improving a lot. Not to mention that he has got beautiful vibrato to begin with. But yeah I totally agree w u guys
Rob is a beast of a player when he doesn't do those silly shred type things he always does. No offence mate, but this bluesy, soulful, god like stuff is much better than that widdly widdly shreddy diddly.
Captain's "Danish lessons" are really working for him. That first bit of jamming was the most soulful I think I've ever hear him, and that's saying a lot considering Cap is a very soulful player.
Getting a Telecaster was a real revelation... Suddenly I had a guitar that could not only do my Strat's job, but could also do the job of my old Les Paul too. Nothing feels wrong or out of reach on a Tele. Where my Strat may be too bright and trebley for hard rock, and my Les Paul might be too dark and chunky for spanky clean blues, the Tele can do both with no effort. Love 'em...
I know exactly what you mean Paranoid Blues Man - I played a Strat for 20 years before getting a Tele. In short, the Tele taught me how to really play guitar and as a result, I am now a better Strat player but still love my Tele to bits.
I’ve gone full circle for the exact same reason, started off with a tele, and thought I was missing out on the les Paul chunkyness, and the Strat spank. Then I figured out how to dial in a sound properly, and now my tele is the 1st one out of the rack, every time. Typically the guitar was never the problem!
Best playing I've seen from Rob and Lee. Some of Rob's most tasteful, emotional phrasing to date and Lee just gets better and better every video. And the editing is great and freakin hilarious!
To me, the G&L Legacy sounds so clear and rings out so well. As a Strat owner currently, I find myself checking out the different models of G&L because of that less muddy tone.
My opinion, I've never played a bad G&L. Bought the first one I tried out in 1987. A used Broadcaster. It sounded and played great, with a pair of P-90 like, pickups. A whole new sound than was available at the time from Fender. I've picked up 4 more G&L's, since. Each one of them, (2 ASAT's, and 2 Legacy's), feel perfect in my hand, and have been rock solid during the years since I've had them. I couldn't ask for anything more from a guitar.
I’m in the G&L camp, when Leo and George were free of any strings from Fender, they built great guitars that expanded on the original strat and tele. I’ve an ‘81 F100 and it is a special guitar.
I love hearing Capn play. I have been watching these videos for a couple years now, and hearing how much better he has gotten is a major source of motivation for me. Keep up the good work.
I own a hand made g&l tribute classic telecaster. made for namm in 2002, when they apparently they started making them in 2003. One of only a couple thousand made in Japan. the serial number dosent show up in their registry. a pretty rare guitar
I have been watching these 2 for many years and love all their videos. What is really noticeable on this one is how far they have both evolved in style and class. Cracking jams!
Wish some time was dedicated to the s500, it's a monster, and tons of variety in tones especially with the toggle that allows you to do bridge/neck combo, or all 3 pickups at once
I'm a big G&L fan, my main axe now is an American made ASAT Special in black. They are unusual guitars, but terribly versatile and really well put together.
Thank you guys. I'm a bloody beginner at guitar with limited time. I wanted to use this time to practice. And then you guys come along with my favourite topic, cause I really, really admire Leo Fender and I really would like to hear your opinion on this topic, so I just watched the video.
These intro solos from both Rob and Lee were absolutely top draw. They suited the style so and complements their styles perfectly. Could listen to that all day. So much feeling.
I have had an S-500 for the past 15 or 20 years. Superb workmanship and superb tone whether through a Roland Cube or a Carr Rambler. Now if I could find an ASAT from 15 or 20 years ago in excellent condition. I realize that Albert Lee might have a different opinion, but I'm in love with G&L.
I genuinely love watching you two. No Other guitar reviewing UA-cam channel looks as though they have as much fun as you guys. Please keep it up! (And Rory is amazing)
Rob, i love when you play like this man! i have never been a fan of shred but i've been a fan of yours for a long time because of this type of playing! please, do it more often!
For me the best guitar Fender ever made is the TELECASTER. You can beat it hard and it stays in tune. When you play it, you will always be hearded in a band situation. It fits easily in every kind of music and the most important fact, it looks so damn sexy 😍
At around 14:45 the truss rod for Music Man came up, and the answer is, the wheel is a "newer" addition. If you look at the original guitars they had more of a Fender bullet style truss rod adjuster. Great video guys!
I have always been a Ibanez fan boy and then I bought a Fender American Special and its absolutely incredible! It plays like a dream! Fender is the dream!
G&L's build quality is better, they feel and play better. Strats have always been the most versatile guitars, but the passive bass and treble controls on the Legacy give you even more tonal possibilities, so I say G&L all day long.
It was the G&L Broadcaster. I had two that I unfortunately had to sell. Amazing guitars. Hand made, pine bodied P90 equipped tele with an ebony board. Oh yeah. He thought so too.
The folks at Andertons sure know how to run a business. I mean, just look how far they've come since the first videos with Rob and Lee. They've totally built an online following and infamy amongst the online guitar community. Major props to everyone involved, it's certainly nice to be able to sit back and listen to some banter and guitar playing!
...The Captain has got skills. Nice improvement. Practice is definitely paying off. Chapters always great. The combined knowledge is impressive, I learn valuable info every tim I watch. Thanks guys.
People finding out just now that Rob can play, amazing. I said it before, I'm not into shredding, so I don't enjoy it as much when he does that, but that doesn't mean that he can't play anything else. He likes what he likes, but is pretty amazing at most styles. Certainly better than me, almost certainly better than most peopple commenting here.
I do agree that this strat tone is AMAZING. SamuraiGuitarist did a cover of my heart will go on using the Miku pedal. The little solo bit he did without the pedal is probably my favorite strat tone
This was a great video. You guys are getting better every day. Excellent stuff. May I propose that all Chappers + Captain videos have mandatory 4minute jam in the beginning and 4 minute jam in the end. Thanks!
For all those that hate on rob for shredding all the time this man can lay down blues licks and riffs like nobodies business and the captains playing continues to get better and better. Love the backing tracks and the reviews keep on putting the best content you can Andertons, cause I truly enjoy and look forward to your new postings!!
I so love my Fender Custom Shop strat and tele! Loved my 1981 Gibson Les Paul "59" Heritage Standard (Gibson's first real attempt to do a reissue Les Paul), but the overall best built electric guitar I've ever owned was an Ernie Ball Music Man Axis Sport. The best neck on the planet. Great DiMarzio splitting humbuckers. Wonderful trem, great locking tuners. I sold that guitar during a time of financial distress. Damn, I miss that guitar! 😞
Haven't watched the whole video, yet (still in the opening jam, which sounds quite tasty), but my answer to the question is the Telecaster. Also, I dig the matching headstock color on that G&L.
Just want to say cheers to the captain for inspiring me to get my head down and improve my own playing. watching your noticeable improvement over the last two year got me to stop making excuses for my shitiness and got me working on upping my game ✌️❤️🤘
As a Fender and G&L owner, the G&L edges out for refinements and ordering options (Getting a 12" radius w/o a huge markup is a nice feature). I got my G&L in the specs I wanted. A comparable Fender would've limited me to whatever they had in the catalog that year. That's a nice thing to keep in mind if you want to buy the US-made models.
Enjoying your videos from Central California! Recently upgraded from my Squier Strat to G&L S-500, but my MIM Tele probably sounds the best. But the G&L plays the best in my hands. Might never find The One, but that's okay! Thanks for the videos!
Please let Pete know that I enjoyed his tracks as well. Really good sound. I think you guys may have made a small mistake in including the Music Man Cutlass. While obviously Leo Fender-inspired, I don't believe that he had anything to do with its design. An article I read in a recent issue of Guitar World Magazine about Music Man stated that Leo's guitar designs didn't catch on so well, although his Stingray bass did very well. The Cutlass Leo designed wasn't very much like the guitar you had in the video, if memory serves. Which maybe it doesn't, as I haven't been able to find photos online to back me up. Anyway ... Captain, you said you'd probably gravitate more toward the old-style Fender when buying that type of guitar, but I'm the opposite. If I were getting a Strat-type guitar and could specify it, I would specify a maple or rosewood neck with locking tuners, a graphite or composite nut, a rosewood or pau ferro fretboard with 24 jumbo frets, a mahogany body, a set-through glued or a sculpted bolt-on neck-to-body joint, and a two-point vibrato with a brass sustain block with otherwise all-steel construction. The bridge pickup would be a humbucker; no other need apply! The others could be either single coils or similarly-sized humbuckers. If money were no object, the vibrato would be re-spec'd as a tungsten block with titanium uppers. I not married to tradition. I never really had the money to choose gear like that of my guitar heroes, but I would have traveled my own path even if I did. I've said before that I could only be a second-class Jimi Hendrix (to use an example you know), but I can be a first-class ME. No one else in the world might like my specifications, but I would, and if the axes are mine then that's all that matters.
'The strat' series from the early 80s. Those guitars were absolut amazing and were built to make those bad 70s strats with triple neck plate and so on, great again
Rob, Lee.....you need to have a "Guitar Olympics" with all of you guys (Rabea , Matt , Pete Lee , Dave ,etc)

I do agree that this strat tone is AMAZING. SamuraiGuitarist did a cover of my heart will go on using the Miku pedal. The little solo bit he did without the pedal is probably my favorite strat tone
I really don't mean to fanboy out but Rob's first solo part was INSANELY tasteful. Really well played!!
The last jam was pure gold
This was a great video. You guys are getting better every day. Excellent stuff.
May I propose that all Chappers + Captain videos have mandatory 4minute jam in the beginning and 4 minute jam in the end.
Thanks!
For all those that hate on rob for shredding all the time this man can lay down blues licks and riffs like nobodies business and the captains playing continues to get better and better. Love the backing tracks and the reviews keep on putting the best content you can Andertons, cause I truly enjoy and look forward to your new postings!!
And this is why I will forever love the Strat
I've heard from many that G&L is the better guitar, they always say that the bridge is miles better.
So is the neck pickup
It's better all the way
I so love my Fender Custom Shop strat and tele!
Also, I dig the matching headstock color on that G&L.
that first G&L guitar sounded so tasty-sweeeet while Lee was playing it.
Would absolutely love to hear a review of that Supro that I spy sitting in the back there! I'm sure it sounds killer
at first I thought you guys goofed around too much but these videos are growing on me. great playing here.
Those jam sessions were more chill than an ice cap on a hot summers day! \m/
Just want to say cheers to the captain for inspiring me to get my head down and improve my own playing. watching your noticeable improvement over the last two year got me to stop making excuses for my shitiness and got me working on upping my game ✌️❤️🤘
Some beautiful soulful playing from the two guys. Great idea with the backing tracks, I hope plenty of bedroom players take these up
def. love the jam with a backing track, gives so much more info on how these guitars sound in mix
G&L Boy myself. all great, i just love my G&L to much
Enjoying your videos from Central California! Recently upgraded from my Squier Strat to G&L S-500, but my MIM Tele probably sounds the best. But the G&L plays the best in my hands. Might never find The One, but that's okay! Thanks for the videos!
Man you guys killed that intro. W O W!
One of the best I've heard you play Lee. 👏👏👏
Props to the editor haha
Truly dig when you guys lay down a good track . I play drums to them. Orginally a guitarist hence why I'm here
Who ever edits these videos is a genius!
'The strat' series from the early 80s. Those guitars were absolut amazing and were built to make those bad 70s strats with triple neck plate and so on, great again
