I agree with pretty much all of your points about this film. I think so many people hung too tightly to the first film, which affected their perception of the film. The sequel is a very bold and ambitious film that was truly daring in its choices and direction.
I agree. I think with the ending of the first, everyone expected Joaquin to be THE Joker in the sequel, but they took a way different approach, much more grounded and ambitious in my mind. It didn't pay off for a lot of people and that's totally cool! But it worked for me!
@BAMTubeMovies it works for me also. People are entitled to opinions, this just makes me think of The Last Jedi and how hated that was, but now has become a favourite, well to some that it. Slight toxic fans syndrome.
@@filmgurumoviereviews4690 Yeahhhhh I still see a ton of TLJ hate, but it does seem to be a bit more neutral now. I didn't LOVE it when I first saw that, but rewatching it over the years had made me appreciate it more. These two movies are VERY similar in that regard haha
Unfortunately, people are not smart enough to realize that this movie is brilliant. Lee, is a villain which I didn't mind. Lee is us, if you think about it. We want Joker and when we don't get what we want we bash him for not playing the role we want him too. I think most of us at some point in our lives/life acted like Lee and all the joker sycophants. It's an excellent film yea... I still preferred the first. But I felt the second had even more depth of character. I hated the guards and I was hoping arthur or one of the other inmates would have killed one of the guards for revenge for all the abuse they took.. specially arthur, that made me mad, arthur was like a wimp and didn't care, but i get it, he was so far gone by time this film took place. Like with the rape scene I was hoping arthur, as joker would have snapped and killed Jackie.. I hated him. Did you all noticed arthur's next door inmate the fat short bloke with the glasses,he looked like penguin. You see him a few times. Anyway I liked joker 2, I know I'm part of a small percentage of stupid people who liked it but whatever...I don't care. Joaquin is my favourite actor and he was brilliant as always..Hildur's music was sexy, she's brilliant, cinematography was breathtaking 👍🏻💯 I saw it twice and about to watch it on this streaming called "mannic" it free, good copy, I saw a piece of it. Dont understand what all the hate is for. Guess people just follow the opinion of what they're told to have. Good review mate cheers.🙏🏻💯🃏
I just saw it and I’ll never trust UA-cam movie critics again. If they say something is awful, terrible and bad, it’s probably because they weren’t watching or didn’t get whatever they personally wanted, which isn’t the point of art.
Arthur's trial, in a nutshell. Arthur, after a lifetime of psyche meds, on account of his insanity, desperately tries to prove his insanity Vs The State, who prescribed his medication, on account of their own diagnosis of his insanity, trying to prove he isn't.
I found it to be a perfect follow to the first movie. In my view though, the two younger inmates with him are only in his mind. Arthur was stabbed at the end by his inner joker persona in the same spot Lee shoots him. Its metaphorical narrative and we know Arthur imagines things. He's still alive and the third movie will be a perfect story ending.
Would be interesting, but I can't see it haha. Unfortunately it's taking a huge hit at the box office, lots from the behind the scenes chaos is coming out about how Todd Phillips wanted nothing to do with DC during the movie, they didn't do any test screenings, etc.
Arthur stabbed himself, and stopped his heart, so that he can escape from the morgue, and realise his true identity. It will work for those who haven't seen Cobra Kai.
definitely agree, I do have slight issue with the execution of the ending but the idea of it and the rest of the entire film I found very unique and refreshing, still like the first one more but can't say that about it and it being musical just matches the joker personality perfectly its strange how many are against it, many people walked out of my screening after the first or second musical number. I spent the entire night thinking about the film, a film wouldn't be meaningless if it achieved that.
That's exactly where I'm coming from. I genuinely don't remember the last time I have thought about a movie in this way for so long. Almost a full week since I have seen it now and I still think about it multiple times a day, finding new meanings, new things to love, etc. I am honestly liking it more and more. It's just SO different.
it's rather ironic that Joker, a character known for being chaotic and unpredictable has now become one of the most predictable characters in comics. people know exactly what will happen when Joker escapes Arkham and fights Batman to the point where people can practically make a bingo card out of it. of course, there's no problem with that, it's just rather antithetical for someone who's supposed to be unpredictable and chaotic. this movie came out and it was nothing anybody predicted it would be resulting in chaos in the movie's universe and outside of it in online and offline discourse. however, because the movie did something nobody was expecting, people began demanding the same old Joker formula that's been used so many times before.
Totally agree! I love the fact that they went this direction, I get why people aren't liking it, but I will always appreciate and champion movie's taking big swings and trying new things. I liked it!
I loved it! I liked it more than the 1st film. I got pretty emotional seeing Joker's psychosis because I could really relate to coping with reality by fantasizing about your dreams. I fully understood what was going on in the film, and that's probably why I liked it so much. Many of the criticisms are that folk are confused about what's going on, which makes sense why they didn't like it. This film went by very quick for me; I left the theater wanting to see a sequel.......But seeing that many folk didn't like the film, there's probably not gonna be a 3rd film 😭
Happy to find another who enjoyed it! I feel like it’s a lot of mixed emotions right now. Some people didn’t get it because they didn’t want to, they just wanted to be entertained and that’s fair. Others got it but didn’t like it and then you have us, probably the smaller minority who understood and enjoyed! But that’s film for you haha
I loved it because it was realistic. I don’t consider it a musical because this wasn’t Arthur narrating his plans or backstory to music. This was a sad, abused man living in his head and surviving with the help of music. Joker may be a symbol but Arthur is a man and he didn’t want to be used as a symbol. He simply wanted to be loved.
Nailed it! I don't like to hop on the train of "you just didn't get it", but I do feel a lot of people didn't give it a fair shot. They saw/heard it was a musical and that was it. I loved the direction they took!
It’s not the same as the first but I love the story and a peak into Arthur’s mind. We saw him dancing to himself in the first movie and it turns out that it’s the musicals that he plays in his head.
Right? That's kind of what I got from it too. Arthur's hallucinations/fantasies aren't anything new. From imagining himself being applauded on stage, to his entire relationship with Sophie, his mind has just grown more elaborate and bizarre. 2 years of abuse in Arkham, medication, meeting Harley (Lee), it made perfect sense to me!
Hell yeah!! I totally agree, for me it maxes out at like a 7/10, where I have the first one as a 10/10. I just made the video because I wholeheartedly disagree with the overwhelmingly negative reviews!

Margot Robbie is still my favourite Harley but Gaga was still amazing in the role and the trial scenes had me on the edge of my seat Gary and Arthur's interaction particularly stood out. The opening animated Looney Tunes style cartoon was terrific and the soundtrack was my fav of the entire year with The Joker, Build A Mountain, That's Life and To Love Somebody had me signing along to the movie throughout yet the film kept the dark dramatic tone of Joker 2019. As divisive as the ending is going to be it worked for me and cried at the end of Arthur and Lee's relationship😭. I think this could be a strong Oscar contender like it's predecessor!
