What I love about Anson Mount's portrayal of Pike is he shows him as a captain who puts on a happy face and does his best to keep his crew happy while hiding all the pain of everything he knows has happened, and will happen.
Just think if he didn't know about his impending fate?? The weight of command would not feel so perilous and fatalistic. Imagine knowing that your life will alter significantly (even cease to exist) on a specific date and time in the future.
This is the captain we always deserved but never quite got. Thanks to Anson Mount for bringing the true pike back to life. Oh and yeah I couldn’t imagine hiding that weight n still being awesome…makes you think….
Christopher Pike truly is the best of Starfleet. He is the code he lives by. Brave, Bold and Courageous. So glad they have commissioned Strange New Worlds to continue to tell his story and journey to what he and us as fans know will eventually happen to him. Also Anson Mount is single handedly the best portrayal of him.
My god, it always gives me the chills every time I watch this. Pike character has never been so interesting. Anson Mount made an outstanding work of play. It’s truly the old Star Trek spirits coming back to life again. I can’t wait for the new show. I hope they won’t ruin it cause the basis to have an iconic masterpiece are all there.
We can only hope. But kurtzman is still in charge. He doesn't know Star Trek. I hoped when discovery was announced it would still stick to cannon. Every show had problems. I don't know how much influence Johnathan Frakes has. I'm sure he loves Star Trek like most of us. But some fans are toxic. I do enjoy Trek in all its forms but somethings we have to let go. Oh well.
Incredible with how they did this. I really like the character of Christopher Pike and I loved the audio clips of Jeffrey Hunter in The Cage". Chris still decided to do the right thing regardless of the consequences and the pain and suffering he knew he would endure. As a Christian I relate this to what Christ went through. Funny thing is and I just thought of this now is "Jeffrey Hunter" who played the original Captain Pike played the portrayal of Jesus" in the 1961 movie "King of Kings". Funny how things like that connect!
So far Anson Mount is one of THE BEST actors in all of STAR TREK!!!! This Pike, His Pike is PERFECT!!!!! His style is amazing, his mannerisms are perfect for this characters!! I hope his series lasts longer than (more than 100) any other series, anything under 100 episodes ... if less than 100 episodes... money killed it.... money = residuals to the actors!!!
Once again an amazing tribute. I really liked how you used the dialogue from the Cage - I think it is one of the moments which provide the most insight to Pike's character. This tribute showed a darker, sadder side of him, but also hope, again and again. I'm very excited for Strange New Worlds, and your future works :)
Very much looking forwards to seeing Captain Pike lead the way in Strange New Worlds. There have been great Star Trek Captains, Kirk, Picard, Sisko, but Christopher Pike was the trailblazer before Kirk even graduated Starfleet Academy. He lives and breathes Starfleet values, leaves nobody behind and never, ever does any less than his best-even if it kills him. Something to bear in mind, as well: Pike was shown his future, what is to come, what WILL be if he takes the Time Crystal. He'll be left an irradiated husk with his flesh literally rotting off of his bones only kept alive by a medical chair that forces his vital functions to continue. His mind will be intact, but he'll be in constant pain so awful the only reason he isn't constantly screaming like we see in the future glimpse is the chair dosing him constantly on military-grade painkillers. He hasn't just seen this, he's LIVED it, if only just for a few seconds. He's walking into a Hell of his own making if he completes the Mission... But he says "No" to walking away and takes it like the finest example of Starfleet's best. He may never have imagined an end like that for himself, but to save all life and live out what's left of his life before this happens? He takes the crystal and accepts his fate, because it's his duty and his responsibility-and he defines himself by those measures. Less than a day later, he leads the fight against Controls fleet to save everyone successfully and doesn't even blink at doing his duty. Then he lives with that knowledge until nine years later, by this timeline, when it all ends for him. He may live on, but his life is over. If I didn't know he finally gets a happy ending thanks to the Talosian's, with Vina, I'd be upset by this. Instead, I'm glad to see Pike in his prime and know there's more to come.
The only Trek I need is this Pike, his Enterprise and for writers to honor who understand Trek origins. It's not Burnham and her fake ass relationship with Spock. This guy is Trek. Anson bless you for bringing it home. Trek fan since 1960"s.
Christopher Pike went from a guy who dragged cadet after cadet out of a danger zone while his body was melting -- to a guy who couldn't make it through a door in time.
You knew the risks of command and becoming a starfleet captain of a major starship and the pitfalls of those duties are weighing heavily on your conscious and you're apparently now regretting it?? It's a little late for that captain.

Anson Mount just made Pike a modern great Star Trek character, can’t wait to see more of him.
I've never seen a captain land a role so flawless as Anson Mount.
The inclusion of the TOS talk with the Doctor/ confidant is eloquent. Thank you.

Agreed, agreed, agreed...!
Amen!

Yes they have everything they need to make this show amazing. Anything less than the best would be so disappointing.
Strange New Worlds is going to be a great series. I dare you to fight me on this.

Nah. I think I will agree with you.
Hello here from 2023, Its ten times better than Discovery. Awesome! Pike and Spock carry the show.

I thank and appreciate you to.
I was sold on Anson Mount as Captain Pike the moment he beamed aboard Discovery! 🖖🏿

Amazing edit! May as well tear my heart out now! Thanks for sharing. Can't wait for 'Strange New Worlds' 🖖
I cant wait to see how he will face this moment when he comes, and if we get to see what happens to him after reuniting with Vena
I Will admit that Pike has become my favorite Captain along with Sisko and Kirk.
Pretty powerful stuff.
stunning, absolutely amazing
This was awesome - thank you for sharing! Definitely looking forward to Strange New Worlds!!

Bravo! I choked at this, just beautiful. Especially loved the layering over of dialogue from The Cage also, not forgetting the beginnings. Good work.
Yeah PIke would be a cool series'... hope it gets produced!
That was excellent.
Beautiful and heartbreaking 💔 #strangenewworlds setup 🖖
I think pike is my favorite part of discovery. Spock too. They are more interesting to me than actual discovery.
Aye Captain 🖖
Pike and the guy with the glasses are the few parts I like from Discovery
Christopher Pike went from a guy who dragged cadet after cadet out of a danger zone while his body was melting -- to a guy who couldn't make it through a door in time.
The best Captains are Pike and Picard
Pike seems like a combination of Archer and Picard.
The music is not loud enough, I can still hear the dialogue.
Wow and I thought that the writers on DS9 used to beat the hell out of Chief O'Brien.
The single best thing that came out from otherwise shitty syfy tv show called discovery was captain pike
PIKE a star trek story
Controversial Opinion: Christopher Pike is the Best Captain in Star Trek. Better than Kirk, Picard, Sisko, Janeway, Archer, Georgiou and Lorca.
Sicko and his team designed and brought the Defiant to life, to the fore.
Captain Pike in this interation and teamwork makes me strive.
Definitely a better Captain than TOS Kirk
Make a new updated one.
Chris.P becomes crispy
The only good character on that show.
Tilly
Lorca.
@@aderylight2058 ugh. As if
Green alert. Haters within range.
Stamets is pretty good.
The only good thing about the show
Green alert. Haters within range.
@@careyconley4690 I don't hate it at all, pike is the only captain that feels like a classic star trek captain
