This one is easy to solve really. You just need to say "Can all the women and children stand up and form an orderly line by X", and let the trans person react as they see themselves.
“Oh, so you ARE a woman?!”
“No I’m actually 17”
"This one is easy to solve"
It was never a riddle, just a joke about society.
Doesn't account for nonbinary, and also allows people who identify as men to lie and line up in the women/children line.
We're really making this way too complicated. Sex=gender, even the trans community believes this now (they're trying, mostly successfully I might add, to change their "sex" on government issued IDs like drivers licenses).
That was actually addressed at 0:30 when someone said, "if that's how it works, I identify as a woman."
A few men would have been able to stand in line and leave, lying about their gender identity.
@@MrZaborskii nah, the thought likely never would've crossed their mind

As a trans girl I did enjoy this

To be fair, I avoided ever genderingbsomeone in my friendgroup since he was a trand men, but pre transitioning and I did not know it from him so I was not sure if I was supposed to lnow or not . . .but also I am autistic so i get a pass for socially awkwardness. It it where importent and someone new I met, I would have asked
Jokes aside, for those that assume/are worried that asking is offensive, its not. Asking is actually what we're advocating for. And realistically misgendering is only something that can be done AFTER its been clarified, the first time SHOULD be a free pass.
(And lets be honest, non-queer people are the most likely to be offended if you "cant tell by looking"... Thats not to say there arent some weird, self important queer people... and the NA lefties love arguing with themselves...)
Though I do agree with your first part, there are trans binary people who feel that they should be gendered correctly just by looking if they're used to passing virtually anywhere else. Even though asking is done with good intentions, it can still hurt or prod a bit of insecurity at "so I will never come of as [gender] enough, if people still have to ask, after all this effort into transition?" I don't think this kind of reaction is limited to just "weird, self-important queer people," though I do think it is a them problem, and asking has more benefits than being afraid to ask
@@cameronschyuder9034 Honestly, just go with whatever it looks like they're trying to present as. Now, this can be an issue when someone has a more androgynous appearance/presentation or who is gender queer, but its a good guide for many cases. @@LC-uh8ifyeah honestly as someone who doesn’t pass all that well until recently, I know I’m androgynous and people can’t always guess. Someone’s more likely to be upset if they haven’t done the mental work to get over that insecurity. I know I’m a man no matter what I look like or no matter how others perceive me
@@cameronschyuder9034those aren't a lot. extremists find some few hostile examples of trans people and try to poster them on the entire community.
People get misgendered even if they aren't trans, it happens sometimes (as evidenced by right wing bigots harassing cis women for not being "feminine" enough).
Mistakes happen, and as far as I'm aware most trans people don't get upset about an honest mistake. My own parents got it wrong on multiple occasions after my transition, just out of habit, I never blamed them. The thing that bothers most of us is when people do it deliberately, specifically to be hurtful and dismissive. And even that usually just gets a shrug, because we've heard it all before.
As a transgender person, it is great to see humour like this. Everyone thinks that we are so easily offended, but our humour is just as dark as yours.
Nah fr. This was simply funny. This video was a better joke than simply “EW TRANSSS AND THEY WANT ME TO ACKNOWLEDGE THEM EWWW”. It was just a funny joke and lacked the underlying hate

@@blakesimmons5130 I think firewarrior9999 simply meant to say that transgender people GENERALLY have a dark sense of humor as much as everyone else. Of course, there are plenty of transgender people who, like non-transgender people, have a different sense of humor.
@@AbsurdTurk trans person here and seconded; generally agree with what firewarrior9999 said
@@burlingtonthecat In my experience, when making a joke about any group in general, the funny factors (aside from varying from person to person because we're different) depends on I think:
1) Your relation to the person being a stranger vs an acquaintance: as people are more likely to find jokes targeted towards their group more funny if the joke is coming from someone they know.
2) *Intent* I was with some LGBT people once, including a non-binary person, and I remember making a bunch of jokes in the moment about LGBT related stuff. And those people found my jokes funny, I think, because they understood that *it was NOT my intent to offend them*
Now of course, those same LGBT jokes I made then, other LGBT people may not funny, understandably, but I'm just trying to say that context and intention matters when making these types of jokes.

The adam's apple thing is also fairly inaccurate for trans men, if they have been on enough testosterone. I have a somewhat prominent Adams apple after three years on testosterone. I was also born w a more masculine frame like narrow hips and wide shoulders. I could be intersex or somethin but idk. Its harder to tell for trans men in particular because in utero all fetuses start out with the female stuff. taking testosterone therapy later in life just makes your body go "oh duh we're a man now. we're male as hell how did i not see this" forever and ever. easier to introduce the 'permanent male now toggle' than to try to undo the effects of that said toggle.

@@omp199 No, one could argue that by not punching down, Zach is picking the "side" of the folks that don't want to punch down on minorities. And, even if it means he has no "bite," it seems many people are still enjoying the satire, so it seems having a "bite" is simply unnecessary to make good humor, which, unfortunately, some comedians just do not seem to get.
@@cameronschyuder9034 I think you are just seeing what you want to see. This sketch makes fun of gender identity just as much as it makes fun of the people who are uncomfortable with gender identity. Everyone sees what they want to see, so everyone thinks he's on their side, and everyone is happy.
You miss the point of satire. The point of satire is to attack and to shame. To quote the Wikipedia article, it is the genre "in which vices, follies, abuses, and shortcomings are held up to ridicule, often with the intent of exposing or shaming the perceived flaws of individuals, corporations, government, or society itself into improvement". @@AbsurdTurkas a trans person I see this video as an absolute funny example of how to make jokes about minorities: all the punch lines were about how others treat the trans person and what cis ppl think to know about them. All the stereotypes that were used only to show: “look how stupid the others are, to think this or that is true”
@@louisrobitaille5810nice to know that there are trans ppl old enough to be on twitter (sorry for the dark Humor, if you’re trans you hooooopefully find it funny if you not and you don’t understand: nevermind, just a very bad joke about mental health issues and discrimination)
I love how the crime isnt robbing the bank
Robbing a bank doesn't hold a candle to the horrible crime of misgendering
@@airplanes_aren.t_realNot in today’s society anyway, lol.
Legitimately hilarious without being offensive, I love this

"non-hexadecimal" lmao i love this
this is how you can be funny and respectful at the same time.
Everybody non-hexademical gangsta until the non-64-bit people pull up

I'm sure he will be relieved.
"Non-hexadecimal" is anyone who doesn't identify exclusively with one of the sixteen MBTI types.
I don’t understand why people think it’s offensive to ask. It’s kinda what we’re asking for?
Oh boy, what a completely chill video without any controversial topics whatsoever. I'm sure the comment section here will be very peaceful
Thankfully Zach has a more left wing audience than most channels. Helps when you don’t just do shitty low hanging fruit humor
It’s very peaceful!
This Woke shit seems like it's finally dying down, so it ain't bad.
@TsukiNaito1 That is hilarious. Keep being you, my guy
@@TsukiNaito1 by dying down, you mean accepted by all? Because I haven’t seen that happen yet
0:34 one time I made a joke (unrelated to trans people) and in it I used the correct pronoun for someone I didnt even know was trans. 1 hour later these two people were having a whole ass argument cause someone didnt like that I use the correct pronoun and the other person didnt like that the first person didnt like that I used the correct pronoun.
See this is a good trans joke because its creative and doesn't boil down to "i identify as (random object) get owned liberal i love Jesus"
schrodinger’s gender identity is exactly how im describing this from now
I like how the "let the women and children go first" which assumes assumes there's no single fathers or that non-parent women are more worthy of protecting than men gets completely ignored, but we're happy to obsess over how someone identifies.
It's that kind of sexism so accepted which causes these kinds of problems. If it was just parents and pregnant people leave then there'd be no issue, but because of the needless gendering of a call to protect families/kids we get this kind of ridiculousness.
Well done Zach.
Does it assume that or does it just follow the bullshit traditional ideals that set that very idea in place because of men's perceived stance as the protectors
I'm sure this will fly over all the heads of the people commenting "I'm trans and found this funny" on the video
I think I understand what you're saying. The whole "Let the women and children go" and not the men honestly could stem back to hundreds of years ago- hell, when people first made civilization there was a separation with the roles. So if anything, it is systemic sexism that has been classified as okay over centuries as there's not enough people fighting against it because of how long it's been in place. Very unnerving in these types of situations. Also the identification thing, the video was more geared towards talking about transgender people rather than sexism, but sexism should definitely be clarified in the video.
One example that I thought of when reading your comment was the titanic, and how they like you said, only let the women and children go and the men had to stay on the sinking ship.
@@username8644 Don't be so sure, I am transgender and I understood what the original comment was saying!
Your suggestion allows people to lie, which many would in a life or death situation. And in life or death situations you generally don't have the time to sort things out. How many single dads would have appeared to take up limited spaces on lifeboats on the Titanic?
That mindset was also from a time period when virtually everyone was married and had children by their mid 20s. So most of your adult women were moms.
Trudeau awarding criminals is probably the most accurate part of this sketch.
“We got a code rainbow” LMFAOOOO, I was thinking this was gonna disappoint me by being transphobic but this is gold lol
As a genderfluid person, I'm definitely using that Schrödinger's cat analogy for my gender
That analogy was joking about how pointless it is.
@@issackerth7248 no it literally wasnt lmao
Zach seems the only one who can avoid controversy this smoothly while speaking the absolute truth.
It’s really not that he’s the only one. He’s just simply one of the few who understand comedy isn’t about punching down.
@@kingofgrim4761 Comedy is about many things, and making fun of people being ridiculous isn't punching down.
@@dominicrichardson5122 pretty sure the punchline of a joke saying “Asian/white/black/Indian/Hispanic etc etc people are ridiculous” will pretty much never land as a punchline.
It doesn’t change with trans people. I’d say it’s more ridiculous to believe you know better than the majority of scientists and disagreeing with major (repeated and reputable) studies
@dominicrichardson5122 And that's your belief, that it's nothing but "people being ridiculous." I'm sure you can see why people who see it as a bit more important than that could take offense to an entire group's identity being ridiculed and belittled.
@@kingofgrim4761Do you know how many comedians that have done “white/black/Latino people are crazy”? Some of these are talking about their own race, and some aren’t. It’s all about the content and delivery.
I don’t believe in gatekeeping comedy. If people laugh, they laugh, you just didn’t that time.
The problem here are not trans people. It's the fact we treat people differently based on their gender. The hostages shouldn't be released based on their sex/gender/AGAB/gender identity.
Depends on the situation.
