Wow, you finally made it to the end of this game! The end of the storyline, obviously, as you missed A TON of stuff in the open world. Maybe you could do a livestream playing RDR2 and tie up loose ends, explore New Austin, find the graves etc. I feel like that would be nice of of you to do. 11:03 This part is so beautiful. In a way, John “finished” what Arthur started but as we all know, it didn’t work out. John and Arthur have so many parrallels and it shows. I think most of them are pretty obvious at this point. But, proposing with the ring that Mary gave to Arthur, wanting to get a similar portrait like Arthur’s or going to the theater and successfully “putting the arm around” Abigail, as Arthur couldn’t do that to Mary during their visit to the theater are some of the parralells that show how John’s life is in so many ways, a continuation of Arthur’s: what he and Mary couldn’t bring themselves to do, as their relationship was deemed to fail from the start, as I explained in a previous comment a long time ago. It’s absolutely beautiful and extremely poetic! 29:27 Very good point by Charles there imo. It’s made very clear that during the final days, of his life and of the gang altogether, Arthur chose to let all of that revenge business go and find something else to take its place. To find something else that’s worth fighting for other than violence. In a way, the whole point of them going for Micah ignores Arthur’s whole message. Arthur INSISTED multiple times to John to “not look back” but look what he’s doing in the end. I’m not so sure Arthur would’ve approved of John’s doings. And likewise, Sadie is right too, he wanted to stop Micah as well, so no matter which way you look, this situation is full of contradictions and something is not gonna come out okay…and by this I mean John being hunted by the Pinkertons to where they eventually reach his home (1:18:29). The two agents that track John are Edgar Ross, the one with the moustache, who we see multiple times throughout the story alongside Andrew Milton, who was shot in the head by Abigail in the final mission with Arthur. The other one’s name is RDR1 business ;) Now, I see you didn’t quite catch Dutch’s involvement in the final mission. Listen closely to what he says to John, but first, listen to what Micah says before Dutch makes his appearance: He says “All manner of folks paying social calls.” And then: “What’re you doing here, Dutch?” / “Same as you, I suppose”. Dutch probably realized everything that he didn’t want to admit doing (letting Micah take Arthur’s spot) and everything that Arthur told him about Micah only now, 8 years later (BTW, main storyline is set in 1899 while the epilogue is set in 1907). And because of that, realizing what he did was wrong, he went on to kill Micah, the same reason John was there. Same reason but different motives. John’s was simply for revenge, while Dutch’s was probably guilt. So it’s no shocker that Micah probably lied to John about Dutch’s involvement on the scene and corrupt John into joining “them”. That didn’t work out. Now, let’s go to the credits: I love the idea of answering questions through little cutscenes during credits. It’s a very nice idea and should be used more in games imo. 1:05:47 Mary-Beth, now a writer. You can meet her at the Valentine Post Office. 1:09:29 Tilly, which now lives a very good life. You can meet her in Saint Denis, the park in the center of town. 1:11:17 Pearson, which is now the manager of the Rhodes general store. 1:13:17 Mrs. Downes and her son Archie, now live a rich and sophisticated lifestyle. In a newspaper article from the epilogue, we learn that they opened up a golf course out west, along with many other businesses. This just shows how much impact Arthur had on their lives, as well as others. 1:16:30 “Blessed are those who hunger, and thirst for righteousness”. Arthur’s grave, facing east as opposed to his wish of being faced to the west. A symbolic representation of his change as a human being and also him looking over a new future that awaits, letting go of the past that he left out west… (Fun Fact: The motion capture for Mary in the scene is no other than Roger Clark himself, the voice actor of Arthur, since Mary’s actress couldn’t come that day. So in a way, Arthur is crying at his own grave! How weird is that?! 😅) 1:20:01/1:20:51 The stag and the coyote. If you have high honor, you’ll see dreams of a stag in a beautiful and serene scene bathed in sunlight. If you have low honor, you’ll see a lone coyote in a stormy night filled with thunders, while the music that plays is much more ominous. 1:21:41 Just a beautiful shot of New Austin, the big portion of the map southwest that awaits your exploring! 1:22:31 Rains Fall, a devastating and tragic character, overlooking his once called home before it was taken. An eagle can be seen “surveying” the land which is reminiscent of Rains Fall’s son, Eagle Flies. Metaphorically, he’s looking at his son, who now flies, literally. You can meet him at the Annesburg Post Office. In a newspaper article from the epilogue, it is said that no oil was found in Wapiti and everything that went on between the Natives and the US Army was for nothing, they were forced to move for nothing. It’s sickening… I feel like I summed up my feelings along the way so I’m just gonna say that this game put a great mark on me, and Arthur taught me so much. I’ll never forget this experience, nor will I forget all the themes and lessons I have learned along the way. Outlaws for life. 🤠❤️
Alex, it was amazing having you along the way for the entirety of this playthrough. Your insight into the fine details and elements this game explores taught me a lot, and I'm glad I could share the experience here. I'm really glad you stuck around! Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts with me throughout the journey. So many others playing this game for the first time as well but you chose to stick around here and spend some time with me and that means a lot to me! Thank you! I did not realize you could go wild and explore more in the post-game. I owe you a special episode or stream where I find the old gang members and graves. I'll make a list of what I can find and do it. I'll add it to the playlist! Outlaws for life!
You can actually find Mary-beth, Tilly and Rains Fall somewhere in the world and you'll get a cutscene where they talk with John about how they're doing. You can also find Pearson in the Rhodes general store which he owns now
He didnt hang out with Micah he went off on his own and during the last mission he admitted he was there for the same reason as John - to kill Micah. Its a shame you didn't do anymore exploring because you could have gone all over New Austin and explored it :)
