I work as a teacher in elementary school. Last week, I asked a 7-year old girl what she got from Santa and she told me she doesn't believe in Santa anymore. I can't believe they've pushed their Santa Denialism onto children such a young age... it's heartbreaking with all these LIES and FAKE NEWS!

An idea I've heard and want to do with my own kids is that when they figure out Santa isn't "real", you initiate them into the Secret Santa Program. You say something like:
"Well, now you're old enough to understand how it works. Santa isn't a person like you or I, but Santa IS real. He's as real any present ever given, and by giving selflessly we MAKE him real. Whenever you do give selflessly, you take on the mantle of Santa. And now that you're in on it, part of that mantle falls to you. Now let's think: do you know anyone who has been feeling down, or needs some help? Let's think of something nice we can give them and leave it at their door, ring their doorbell and hide. It won't make any difference to them if Santa delivered it or we did."

@@wybo2 It's a fun story. In 1991 country used white-red-white flag, as an homage to 1918's first independent Belarus before it was captured by the reds.
Lukashenko, wanting to appeal to the Soviet nostalgia, changed the national symbols to the ones resembling Soviet Belarus symbols (with green and red colours).
Now people don't accept Lukashenko and use the country's first national flag (white-red-white) as a sign of protest against his rule.
That led to Lukashenko and his police trying to remove those colors from literally everything they could (including signs, bank logos and Christmas decorations) and replacing it with red and green.

Despite this, as the video states, I still behave in a way that adheres to the thesis that Santa is not only real, but active in my life around this time of year. In this sense, no matter what my most logical conclusions could tell me, Santa is absolutely real.

OK, but unironically, I read a UA-cam comment (on an interview of a man dressed as Santa who ostensibly had a sick child die in his arms) that made me more of a believer than before: "He’s not just a man, but a symbol, an ideal. I think santa denialism could also have its roots in fear of or disappointment in santa caused by not receiving christmas presents, even though one has been nice. Maybe this caused this nihilistic look toward santa or the need to disprove his existence.

Comparing evidence of Santa's existence to evidence of God's existence is, simply said, a strawman.
Well the origin of Santa Claus and much of what we call "Christmas" is most likely a slow transformation of pre-christian Germanic folk characters, beliefs and traditions that survived past the forced christianization of Europe despite the efforts of the church. In fact Christmas(in the Christian sense of "Christ's Mas") was purposefully set to overlap the pagan holidays and artificially made more important by the church in an effort to try to get the common folk to stop celebrating Yule and their traditional winter solstice events. The closest predecessor of Santa Claus/Father Christmas is actually not St Nicholas but Woden/Odin.
@@alexdunphy3716 This might be the case, but I don't think the concept of Santa Claus developed isolated from St. Nicholas. Wikipedia says that "Wodan's role during the Yuletide period has been theorized as having influenced concepts of St. Nicholas". So the modern Santa cannot be said to have come from strictly pagan or Christian traditions, but is a mixture of both. Keep in mind though, that the words "Santa Claus" literally come from "Saint Nicholas" and were borrowed from Dutch: "Borrowed from Dutch Sinterklaas (“Saint Nicholas”)." (en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Santa_Claus )
Furthermore, December 25th already had special significance for Christians when they came into first contact with Germanic tribes (that is, at least before AD 354). (Source: www.catholic.com/magazine/online-edition/why-december-25 ) (Don't quote me on the time of their first contact, I skimmed through Wikipedia quickly and saw that *early* Christianization of the Germanic people happened in 4th century AD.)
@@st.isaacofniniveh9909 of course the name Santa Claus came from St Nicholas but the characteristics of the modern Santa Claus and the associated traditions are obviously pagan in origin. Christians were aware of European pagan customs and traditions from the very beginning. Germans were interacting with the Roman world before Christianity existed and the religious beliefs of all Europeans were basically a continuum of variations on the same basic belief system(which they all evolved from). I don't think Woden is the only influence on Santa Claus but it seems he is the largest of the contributing characters and traditions that have been conflated together over the millennia, which includes some Christian traditions (though it seems they are relatively minor)
@@alexdunphy3716 I would disagree with that. In my country (I live in central Europe) St. Nicholas brings us gifts on December 6th. There is no modification of the Saint, he literally is St. Nicholas the bishop. Furthermore, although you could make the case for pagan influence, it would involve a lot of speculation and no hard evidence. St. Nicholas fits the figure of a gift-giving good guy perfectly (he literally did give gifts to people during his life), and I see no reason to try to artificially stretch this tradition into paganism. Paganism might have predominantly influenced the figure of Santa, but on the other hand, it might have not and St. Nicholas is the main influence. We just don't know.
