    Pax Dei Wilderness Alpha Description:
    What awaits over the horizon when you leave your home valley? For this second large-scale test, we’re going on an adventure!
    Gear up. We have revamped and introduced new statistics for all gear and consumables in the game. With hundreds of items to mix and match, you’ll have more flexibility in crafting your own role.
    It’s dangerous to go alone. Denizens of the world will now present a real challenge. Don’t wander away from home without a party and the proper equipment.
    Master your weapons. We’ve added new spells, combat abilities and weapon types. Keep an eye on their durability! You don’t want them to break when you need them most.
    Welcome to Fight Club. Divine peace doesn’t extend to Lyonesse, our new province. Enter here at your own (mortal) peril if you’re willing to try out our first iteration of PVP.
    Build & craft away. We’ve made multiple changes to the peaceful aspect of the game by adding new recipes, new ingredients and new crafting stations. We’ve also started work on progression balancing.

    8 hours seems like the perfect amount of time. It's enough time to explore a good chunk of the world, check the dungeon system, try out building, crafting, and get an overall feel of the gear system.

      Average isn't a very good indication of the typical time spent in the game. From discussions on Discord and here I see there were people who basically no-lifed it. As an example, take 10 people, 9 of them play 1 hour each, 1 plays 10 hours every day, 70 hours during the test. Total hours played by all 79 hours, average 7.9 hours. But the typical time played is only 1 hour.

    Glad I played alpha two. Brought to my attention.That I need a new PC before.I can play Pax. And I fully intend too.
    In my opinion, It's refreshing that the devs actually want our opinion and seem to be making rules and regulations, and structures built on the opinion of the players. Not solely but definitely influential. That's a win for me. Keep up the good work Eltari

    They didn't say that 100k players participated in A2. They only said 100k invites, which didn't include the invites from A1.
    Also the 9-ish hour *average* means that a lot of people quit after a lot fewer hours than that.

    I played for a couple of days but I don't PVP in any game, I only do combat when I'm required to for some reason. For me combat was ok once I figured out that pointy sticks killed boars and to run from trios. I provided feedback on several UI issues. It was too easy to delete characters and their plots -- most games that have this type of system have a wait period. I will be doing early access. They do need to do something with inventory -- what about backpacks or lol hand carts (like manor lords?).

    I'd rather them push back the Early Access for another 6 months so they can come with an actual combat system and not the current one we had in Alpha 2. I'm afraid that the current system might be bad for the game's hype.

    • @eltarii
      @eltarii  Місяць тому +1

      Yea, I think the game is going to be in EA for at least 1-3 years so I feel like not wasting any of that time building something we don't want and putting it in our hands is better than building hype for a game that is feature incomplete. I dont think anyone is expecting PxD to hold 100% of players at the start of EA. It will get initial hype and die down and continue to build over EA.
      In my opinion worrying about hype when more than half the game isnt finished yet and is still in active initial implementation is completely useless and a waste of time.

    • @shammylevva
      @shammylevva Місяць тому +3

      @@eltarii yet a game that bombs when people have paid for it (they will pay in EA) if the combat is even vaguely as bad as it was will get a bad reputation and lose a lot of the potential. It's one thing to add in features like advanced building mechanics, trading systems, like markets, shops and player created (get me X resource for Y reward questing), things that players won't see straight out the gate when they start playing anyway. It's quite a different thing to have a broken combat system that people immediately hate and leave a negative review in their first 2 hours.
      I think there was a bit too much giving the benefit of the doubt in this video things like excusing the combat and the average time spent. If you look at various online comments you'll see that a vast number of people gave it a hour or two and then decided nah the combat was so bad they couldn't play. It's not doing the game devs any favours being too generous.

    • @eltarii
      @eltarii  Місяць тому

      @@shammylevva I appreciate your opinion on it! I think the best thing we can do now is wait and see how it goes. The devs are going to do what they see best. In my opinion the only reason they are doing a paid EA is to help cover the server costs during development, they aren't cheap I would imagine!
      It is apparent they understand the feedback they were given and already started to implement changes. Continuing to do that will be important throughout development. They seem pretty sturdy and can take punches and still think straight haha.
      As for the online comments, all I have to say is vocal minorities kill games. Negative comments stand out more and people are generally more inclined to share negative opinions than positive ones. I do not envy whoevers job it is to discover true opinions on the game as a whole population, it must be very difficult.

      @@eltarii very valid points. I guess I'm just passionate about the idea of the game and am fearful that it could all go sour if they make what is an obvious mis-step because they under-estimate how pathetic the attention span is of most gamers these days.
      I'm just hoping they get combat to a state that it feels ok and people can see it will get even better as they play, gaining gear etc and even better as the game is developed further.
      If they can get an EA launch that people's reaction is - ok this has promise - even if those people leave and revisit from time to time. That is fine. It means those of us that will play regardless can play test new things and get hundreds of hours of enjoyment out of it and that a willing to give it a go player base is out there come launch.
      As the old saying goes you never get a second chance to make a first impression.

      The game is crafting and building heavy in the extreme. I myself can't see myself playing this. I like "crafting" (woodworking and blacksmithing) for real and don't mind some of it in a game. But why would I spend hours daily make believe crafting imaginary items when I can go and make the stuff for real? The immersion is on another level when you make the actual stuff.

    What Pax really needs, especially for the roleplay potential, is proximity voice chat. Make it able to be toggled off and on for those that wouldn't like it. It's one thing this game is really missing. Please devs, make this happen.

      Trees are super abundant and you can fill an inventory very quickly. ATM IMO flax, clay and gneiss are a much worse grind. Especially flax as for the higher level items in a number of crafts high level linen cloth or thread is required which has to go through several levels of refinement. It takes hours of gathering and spinning to get a single bolt of fine linen cloth.

    Was a Crafting/Harvesting simulator. I stopped 3 days into Alpha 2. I'll stick to mmorpg's. Even though they said that it wasn't a Survival game, it is close enough. And one of the reasons I didn't like New World was EVERYONE could harvest and craft EVERYTHING. Limit a Crafting Tree and Harvesting Tree of what one person could do and create a Demand and Need instead of thousands of people the same thing as everyone else. No trading needed. Botting will be rampant. Use AI to create nodes in random areas instead of static.

    I played both Alpha 1 and Alpha 2. The combat in both felt identical. Both extremely bad. I can't hardly find the words to describe how bad it was. I can't imagine EA being anything but a total embarrassment unless they work a miracle or delay a year.

    • @eltarii
      @eltarii  Місяць тому +7

      Combat did change, but it was all backend stuff that was required before they built the actual combat system.
      You think they are identical because the A1 "combat" was really well faked. The backend now actually supports the future direction.
      If its unplayable for you in its current state maybe wait until it's further in development? Early Access will probably get a roadmap at some point so you can check it out once the improvements suit your fancy.
      I think it's extreme to say that having a combat system that's in development at the start of EA is an embarrassment though. Now at the end of EA i would agree but there is A LOT of time between that!

    • @pipz420
      @pipz420 Місяць тому +2

      @@eltarii If the combat is anything like A2 then yes it will be an embarrassment. At the moment I would grade it a 2/10. Button mapping is off. Zero complexity. With no skills available in the first 60 hours. I couldnt even "test" combat because everything I fought died in 2 hits with me spamming the mouse button because there is no auto attack in a game you want me to put 10000 hours into. Bad does not describe how bad this combat is. And I genuinely want to see this game succeed.

    • @eltarii
      @eltarii  Місяць тому +4

      @@pipz420 I hear you, I really do. But, the game is going into Early Access not getting fully released. Consistency in improvement while they are developing the system is going to yield far better results for us as players.
      It's like saying a car on the production line is an embarrassment to the company making it. The whole point of EA is to be a part of the game during its development, so why expect a more finished product than some games fully released?
      Development costs money and MF wants to develop their game for us and get our feedback. Why would they waste time making something we might not actually want just to scrap it once we give initial feedback on launch of EA. It would be a huge waste of cash to develop it that way.
      Developing a product for us and letting us give feedback on how to improve it shouldn't be embarrassing and must not to get the best game we can AT RELEASE not EA.

      @@pipz420 yup I agree! For some people EA might not be the right time for them to try Pax Dei out (at least initially).
      I like to think about this like BG3s development. For many they played 5-8 hours when it first went in to EA. After that they didnt touch the game for 2 years. The ones who stayed gave great feedback for Larian and we all witnessed what happened after that!

    Being gaslit about how combat changed so much between A1 and A2 is just another reflection of a studio that's living off its most fervent followers. Ultimately when this game is out in a couple months on EA, and it's review bombed, I truly hope the devs take a second look at their approach. Only relying on your most loyal of backers puts you in a bubble, and when that bubble pops during EA, it could easily mean the end of the game.
    It's unfortunate, the game has potential. But not with their current direction, and inability to do their own PR but instead rely almost entirely on their most loyal followers.
