Rivers in the desert, yeah it's like "the impossible" but it's all what you desperately needed. You're in a dry land, what does the dry land desperately need? A river. You're playing poker and you think your hand is a lost hand, what do you desperately need? An Ace, the last Ace in fact. A heartbeat for a tin man, you get the idea. And that's why we're here, to create a river in the desert. Creating the impossible, but also what is desperately needed.
You're pretty much spot on with the meaning. It's about taking you opportunities and making the most of it to press through the hardest times a live you best life. Really that's the message of the whole game in a way.
The context is a boss fight that's been a long time coming. The boss readies himself, the protagonist's party braces. The song starts. It's ominous, it feels oppressive. It's all or nothing. And then the lyrics kick in. The music behind them take on a different tone because of it. It's not the boss's theme. It's yours.
A lot of modern Persona battle music is the party's music now that I think of it. Reach out for the Truth and Time to make HIstory pretty obviously are. Mass destruction is about SEES daily work. Battle for everyone's souls should be considered a track for the MC as well, since it remixes the velvet room theme. Last Surprise is about being a phantom thief. Tells you a lot about the games' designs and core themes.
@@victoriayeats1649 also the chorus. they all have something in common, a river in a dry land, the last ace in a lost hand. a heart for a tin man, these are all things that give people hope.

The primary conflict of Persona 5 can be boiled down to complacency and apathy vs struggling to make things better. It's a direct response to Japan's culture of not causing waves. Keep your head down and not hope for something better, or you going to keep digging in the sand to try to make a river in the desert?
Coolest thing about this song, the same as metal gear rising's boss themes, is that you first hear the song without vocals. And then when the boss enters phase 2, the lyrics kick in.

The thing you won't get without playing the game, is that the boss this first plays for is 2 phases. The first phase is only instrumental and the lyrics only kick in during the second phase.
Persona 4 Golden hits me I think alot more since I grew up in a small town and just feel the vibes of the story alot more. Then Persona 5 (Royal is the version I played) comes and the music selection is just comes exactly as you say, fucking crazy. Building rivers in the desert, giving a heartbeat to a tin man. Live your best life and live it to the fullest. Do the impossible because impossible is just a word. PS. Songs like this make me wonder if the composers for this song rocked out as hard as I did first time I heard it.
Hands down one of the best boss themes in the entire Persona series, this track also has a more metal sounding remix in Persona 5 Strikers. That version is a lot more fast paced and builds hype in a fairly different way than this track does.
the strikers version practically mutes the violin, and doesn't replace the violin lines with anything, which I don't like at all. The violin drives the entire non vocal melody in the OST. I miss them when they're taken out.
Never have I wanted to see a live performance so bad. I love this song and I so wish that I could have gone to Japan when they were doing Persona 5 concerts. I've seen so video of it and the vocalist just seems like she's having the best time performing this song.
Persona 5 would have won the OST of the year easily if it didnt come out around the same time as Nier Automata did. that was a great year for game OSTs
@@DopeioThePhoneBoi It's okay if you like it, it fades into the background really fast though as compared to other music in the game. The only track I recall going "background noise" as fast was the standard night theme. I never played Persona 5, but a friend in PSO2 back before NGS came and basically neutered it, would play Persona music over our Discord during raid bosses. I have way more connection of this franchise's ost through a completely different game.
You know a JRPG games is about to throw an amazing fight at you when the boss has a special boss theme, and the lyrics to that song don’t pop up until the halfway point of the song. The boss where this music plays has, like, 5 forms, and each stage forces you to play a bit differently. The boss is also the emotional climax of the game, since everything has been leading up to the confrontation since the first day in game. Very cool song, I think of the best in the series.
My take on the video is finally finding the strength to move forward "Don't ask me why I'm ready, but i'm ready to strike him down now" and doing what even you yourself might not believe to be possible "creating rivers in the desert"
i've been playing persona and shin megami tensei games for over 15 years now and man, you're absolutely right, nothing sounds like persona. it and its parent series have such a singular vibes. persona just sounds like persona.

The memories i have of this song are so many :) Together with Last Suprise its one of my favorites, only to be surpassed by the Strikers remixes of both songs :)
It's a little bit in being thankful for what you have, but it's also a sort of voice of ambition to bring the greater change. This is most simplistically can be taken from the part where they say "creating rivers in the desert" as a analogy for restoring sustainability, hope, and peace, and by "burned our feet" reflecting on the hardships along the way and that it's all worth it. This is the sort of important symbolism in the song to note of when it comes to what this song is really about, and where we as the player stand, in a similar situation, but in a modern society in need of change.
So, the song is essentially a boss song, as it is played during one of the last bosses in the game. It's a long, multi-phase battle, during which the song is played first as (kinda) calm instrumental, then, during next phase as (kinda) intense instrumental, and at last full version, with lyrics, goes in the last part it. About the meaning, it's really heavily connected to the story of the game, so it's hard to explain shortly. But, let's try: Protagonists in here are fighting a guy that's about to be chosen as the prime minister of the Japan. That guy, on the outside seems like young, nice and dependable guy with strong head, but our group finds out, that in reality he thinks about himself as a "savior", and his goal is simply being in control. To achive that, he was killing his enemies, or scaring into cooperation even a gangster "lord". He didn't care about your everyday people, didn't trust anyone, even his "belivers". During the story we learn as well, that a probation, on which the MC is, is his doing. All that is the reason they go to fight him. The problem is that this antagonist is extremely powerful, meaning the fight will be very difficult, if not "impossible". And this "impossible", imo, is the reason for "rivers in the desert". To give the hope, that the main group can do it, make the miracle true. Of course, it's only my take on it, as a person who finished the game, so if anyone doesn't agree, that's alright. If we speak about Persona 5 songs, I'd recommend "Life will change" (from Persona 5).

There are so many good choices in Persona music, but one of my absolute favorites is the pair of "Fog" and "Genesis" for P4's Very Super Final boss fight.
This is one of the top three songs from the original Persona 5, and one of the top six songs from P5 Royal. From P5, the best ones are Life Will Change, Rivers in the Desert, and Last Surprise. From Royal, add on Take Over, Throw Your Mask Away and I Believe. They're all great songs out of context, and a couple of them are even more awesome in context.
Yo the Persona crew have put out live concerts that are absolutely fire, even if you don't do a reaction video you might want to see if you can find live versions of some of the Persona 4 and 5 tracks you've listened to already because they're even bigger and stronger.
P5 is also amazing for music because, at least in the Royal version, you can listen to its soundtrack or swap some songs like battle theme or overworldish music for the music from some of the older games so you can have the wide spread banger of this games ost or you can go back to a game that is more nostalgic for you.
Really happy to see Persona getting some love.! If you ever get the chance, I highly recommend Persona 3's Battle Hymn of the Soul/Battle for Everyone's Soul.
This song sells, to me, a sense of desperation. A river in a desert. The last ace in a lost hand. That sense of need telling you that the heroes' must defeat the boss before them. Separating the character levels, the equipment, no matter how strong or weak you are by then, in the game, they can't afford to lose, because so much is riding on them. Very epic stuff. I may just have to give this game a try if I can find it on a sale, or when there's a lull in my rental list.
"PERSONA!" "LET'S GO, CAPTAIN!" "JOHANA!" "DANCE, CARMEN!" The boss fight for this is so..so, excuse my french, FUCKING good. 'Cause that song while you're doing that boss fight? You don't get every piece at once. You start with one instrument..and then the fight progresses, and you are STRUGGLING to survive, and then you get to phase two and the drums come in. You fight on. Tooth and nail. Everything you have. And you get to phase 3..and you get another piece to the Gods damned masterpiece that is this song. And every *inch* you win you get more of the song; it is there to motivate you. To keep you going. Do not give up. Get your revenge. Fuck it's so epic.
Fav persona track of all time is Heaven from Persona 4. It’s litterally sang from the point of view of a little girls idea of how heaven is for her dead mother. Like holy shit
Jeez man. Jesse are you okay? Might need a replacement brain after all the uploads today. P5 was my intro to the series, the music hooked me right away it's so snazzy
So this song's title is a Bible reference. Isaiah 43:19 Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert. So you got a lot of the meaning - but it's about more than living your best life, but accomplishing something previously thought impossible. A magician can pull a rabbit out of a hat. At the last possible moment, the Phantom Thieves pull life out of death.
previous persona game like Persona 3/4 also has tons of banger from same composer also, check out their Persona Arena(fighting game) spin off soundtrack. tons of bangers and arrangement from the same composers
Smt and persona heck Atlus games in general are always absolutely beautiful I stil, want to point to the dds hunting themes and battle for survival since I can't find reactions to them on yt and need attention but obviously other tracks like the smt 4 Tokyo map theme and the classic battle B2 the other famous nocturne track of the normal battle theme smt 5 has the bethel theme and the Archangels theme I don't know how much persona you've reacted to but each of the games have their own famous tracks there's so much good stuff here
Found this channel right now, subscribed. I think that since you reacted to Nocturne's Fierce Battle and P5 OST as well, you should try Shin Megami Tensei V's "Battle - Da'at" too. Also, you channel is amazing
Oh, as for what the song is about: I've seen it interpreted a couple of ways, but as far as I understand it, it's less about "living your best life" and more about struggling against seemingly overwhelming odds, accomplishing what others see as impossible. You know, like building a river in a desert. Persona 5 is, to a great extent, about living up to your principles, and not allowing yourself to be limited by the expectations of society. But that means taking on massive risks, alienating people who might otherwise support you, and ultimately putting yourself at odds with a system that likes things just the way they are. In extreme circumstances, you could even put your life on the line. But maybe, just maybe, it's worth it to build a better future.
The only OST that i think rivals with persona 5 is METAL GEAR RISING ost, while the persona 5 writes a message the Metal Gear Rising ost writes a story, they are really great
Nice, I really like this one! Think it'd be better to listen to it with lyrics on, so you can catch all the details :) (I couldn't catch everything without lyrics at least)
This plays during one of the most important bosses in the game. That boss is also incredibly long and difficult on your first play of the game. So yeah. It loops
You really do find some of the best game soundtracks lol, library of ruina, persona, guilty gear, if you havnt done Hollow Knight, I highly recommend id
I think it was said the whole style of persona 5 soundtrack was acid jazz? The game itself is fantastic and the story I got attached to because in high school I was accused of saying and doing some stuff and got punished for it with no way to defend myself.

"LET'S GO, CAPTAIN!"
"JOHANA!"
"DANCE, CARMEN!"
The boss fight for this is so..so, excuse my french, FUCKING good.
I feel like the song is about giving hope to the hopeless
If you thought this song hits hard, check out I Believe from P5 Royal, it's on a whole nother level imo.
The lyrics are actually good for video game music
P5 has such good music and Royal added more so i would recommend I Believe, and Throw away your mask from Royal
Now you HAVE to listen to Last Surprise
Yeah man... Smash those palaces! Oh wait, we just listening to the songs..
That's cool to.
I think it is mandatory for me to recommend persona 5 strikers daredevil
Fun little fact Persona and Shin Megami Tensei are actually connected, Persona is an alternate timeline where the apocalypse in SMT 1 never happened.
At the last possible moment, the Phantom Thieves pull life out of death.
previous persona game like Persona 3/4 also has tons of banger from same composer
also, check out their Persona Arena(fighting game) spin off soundtrack. tons of bangers and arrangement from the same composers
The only OST that i think rivals with persona 5 is METAL GEAR RISING ost, while the persona 5 writes a message the Metal Gear Rising ost writes a story, they are really great
Blooming Villain and Dovahkiin Song next bro! Luv u
Nice, I really like this one! Think it'd be better to listen to it with lyrics on, so you can catch all the details :) (I couldn't catch everything without lyrics at least)
Yeah it's a bit tough, the singer isn't a native English speaker and the lyrics get warped a little to fit the rythmn.
it does look like he's got a lyric video up, or at least the one in the picture-in-picture is.
Now that's a song
I've listened to the Persona series OSTs a lot even though I've never played any of them. The OSTs are just that good though.
"damn i have a lot of hair" the flex.. Hahaha meanwhile im here balding already T.T
Honestly this was the song that blew me away from the P5 and then P5 royal just came out with even more bangers.
The vibe when joker vs shido is epic
This plays during one of the most important bosses in the game. That boss is also incredibly long and difficult on your first play of the game. So yeah. It loops
The closest thing I've found to Persona 5 music is Acid Jazz, but it's still not the same. Acid Jazz is dope though.
You really do find some of the best game soundtracks lol, library of ruina, persona, guilty gear, if you havnt done Hollow Knight, I highly recommend id
Thank you
ma it is like the 10th time i come her... P5 OST is probably the best videogame OST ever
When you are the boss.
I think it was said the whole style of persona 5 soundtrack was acid jazz? The game itself is fantastic and the story I got attached to because in high school I was accused of saying and doing some stuff and got punished for it with no way to defend myself.
Listen to Throw away your mask with lyrics it’s a boss fight them in persona 5 royal
Do whims of fate man. You should do it
Honestly, if you hadn't told me It was Bloody Roar, I would have thought It was from FFXIII.
YES
Wait, he hasn't reacted to Last Surprise yet? Prateon people, get on it.
Which version, original or strikers?
@@alfredhinton8792 I actually haven't listened to the Strikers one yet.
So, obviously, BOTH.
@@beo3828 the original is smooth and jazzy. Strikers version is epic battle music. Tell me after you look it up,
Hey I recommend you to react to the digimon story cyber sleuth ost. maybe start with "the cyber sleuth".
Story and gameplay wise I much prefer Persona 3. But the music and art style of Persona 4,5 do keep evolving and standing out.
Best song
YOOO
Can anyone tell me without spoilers when this plays in the game. I just finished the third palace.
I wonder if he can react to Heartful Cry from Persona 3
No More What Ifs
Do all of octopath traveler ost it's the best
