The best autonomous drone just got better
Вставка
- Опубліковано 30 вер 2019
- The Skydio 2 feels like the stuff of dreams - a drone that can fly itself, follow you around without crashing into trees. Now, the idea is far more affordable at $999 for the craft itself, with upgraded cameras, battery life, navigation, size, weight, and a pair of optional $150 controllers if you need longer range and/or more control over filming.

Does autonomous flying make drones more appealing to you?
The Verge 🔥🔥🔥
The Verge
I find this would be more appealing to people that are into sports and stuff like that
Oh yeah!! Be your own camera man
Way more than self controlling ones! I'd be way to afraid to fly a 2000€ camera by myself!
Definitely! The Rise of the Machines is upon us... 🤖
This company will be acquired in less than 12 months.
by Boston Dynamics.... :P
Hopefully not by DJI
@@johnnyxp64 Spots Recon!👍🇺🇸
Probably by the US military

I can see a video of someone driving like this doing a few million UA-cam views.
For 23 mins
Genius!
DJI FPV
I always wonders how snowboarding games could work in real life..
20 years later we have Batteries not included !
They lied batteries are included !
Been using this the passed month and it’s hands down my favorite tech ever. The beacon is a game changer and having a controller just completes the package. You can quite literally get any shot you want.
Can it follow me downhill while snowboarding or it will keep its altitude like all DJI drones? That is the only reason i am not buying one.
well, you're paid to say so..
@@izoyt Wasn't paid kid, sorry to burst your little bubble.
@@ktm640lc4BGD It follows me on a motorcycle so that should be nothing for it to do.
ktm640lc4BGD it will follow you better than your own shadow!! It’s amazing!!
If this works as promised, these are going to sell like hot cake.
That's the thing, it rarely works as promised. I bough the 3DR Solo a few years back. It was mean to to be super amazing. The company folded soon after.
We need some help delivering all these hot cakes!!
I prefer my cakes warm, with melting icing.
Hopefully.
@@thim0 *Video quality is a problem, no gimbal, low unswappable battery life, no fold... And much more unstable **04:20**, but don't blame them, R&D Budget 1/100 of it bigger competitor.*
I’ve been following Skydio for two years now and I’m super impressed with their tech. I also dig how chill Sean is.
Softbank : *breathing heavily*
No one is going to talk about why he is using an electric scooter in the grass?
Most of us have figured it out, have you?
maybe when trees grow on the tarmac...
IT's a California thing!
And?
What's your point?
so happy I waited for the skydio 2. going to use it on my channel and see how it does in dense wooded areas. that is what I am worried about since I am a dirtbiker wanting to run around trees
Continuous fascinating info from the get go of this video! Excellent work!
Sold my DJI Spark wanting something better, but not too expensive incase I broke it.... Here we go!!
Let's gooo!
Coyne Wiggins Yep, got a Spark with all the accessories that’s going to fly away to someone else so I can get the SkyDio.
Go with Mavic Mini 😉
This is awesome! Love it! The mapping visualizations look so cool!😝👌
This guy is so relaxed while reviewing.
Must be 420 friendly
3:10 a little big choppy in low light without a ND filter? Can you have a stuff who knows the basics of photography to cover the camera part?
:) yep I use my ND filter all at night time, heaps better footage lol
OMG, this would be so great for aerial 3D scanning *.*
It's a fair price for such an advanced done :-)
The skydio R1 was more a proof of concept than a finished product, but this looks promising.
I too love drones and this is more impressive
best info about the Skydio 2...Thanks!
how video link works? its over wifi? can it get digital video over 1,5 km on wifi signal?
interesting, could be a potential competitor to DJI Mavic series
🤔🤔🤔 nervous
LOL
Mavic air maybe but definitely not Mavic pro 2!
@@pepitoaus it's only their second product, so I look forward to what will come next, thus the "potential" from my last comment
@@user-mw6yj1rw7q haha you got work to do
Way to go. Great product.
The first time hearing this name I though:
*It was me, SkyDIO!*
Is that a _Jojo REFERNCE?!_
Any chance to use a custom gps dongle? I’m looking for a drone for falconry, and I’d love for something to follow a hawk. The remote would be too big
Created and manufactured in ‘Murica’... hats off to you guys!
Impressive indeed. Probably will add to my hangar. 👍 👍
Can Skydio 2 be used with ESRI software to collect georeferenced imagery using the onboard camera (and presumably GPS) by processing the image through Drone2Map?
Love that it’s American made. We can support our own economy while making great videos! :)
Grant Stinnett better than in China were its tech can be stolen
@@rr4713 sure they didn't steal dji's tech.
This is news to me. I will DEFINITELY be buying a Skydio over DJI now. Thanks.
How do the cameras compare to mavic mini?
Incredible! Cool for snowboarding
Really amazing
Hello! Is there any autonomus surveilance drone?
How can you catch it?
Looks promising. Nice to see a bit of competition for dji.
With the accessories and 2 extra batteries the real cost is about $1500. The flight capabilities seem to be its main selling point since the camera is the typical small 1/2.3" sensor with fixed aperture. I'll wait for the customer reviews before ordering one. Looks promising though. At least it's U.S. made which is a major plus.
Gotta admit, I like that it's built in the US!
maybe its because im in the uk that ive noticed this but.........BUILT in the us doesnt mean MADE in the us, i'm guessing here but....there are going to be HUNDREDS of component parts made in the far east, China, hong kong malaisia and on and on etc etc. So, if you think your being patriotic by buying into the 'BUILT' in the USA then think again lol.
Probably made in china, assembled in US
Please read on the back made in china :D
How fast can the drone fly backwards while tracking?
Man, when did you work for the Verge instead of Cnet?
i feel like these can be some sort of security device. follow you trekking in the woods and beam for help if you get lost. or follow your kid if they are walking out unaccompanied and needed some sort of surveillance
Price?
I'll wait for the foldable version and reported issues
Pretty sure they've worked them out after the first version but we'll see.
And I'll wait for the 3hr battery life one.
I was seeing skydio 1 and that thing is amazing, now they has skydio 2 which is awesome
Anyone knows why the motors are facing downwards?
I’m curious about the camera gimbal, it’s seems a bit awkward. Unlike normal 3 axis gimbals. But I’ll wait to see what detail reviews say.
I WANT ONE BUT living in AUSTRALIA we must wait till 2020, Oh well I will enjoy all the new owner's videos until then, Have fun everyone. Cheers
Damn this is good.. Hopefully in Gen 3 they can add in foldable arms and a better main camera with a longer battery which can be easily swapped.. They would nail the device..
This is amazing.
4:50 , dude got caught sharing memes on slack hahaha jk
Can you add a pre-flight plan App?
Really like this design i would love to own it but wish it was a little bit more cheaper 🤔🤔👍🏽👍🏽
In a couple years it will be, but it is actually a great price for such a jump in technology.. Like you though I wish everything was cheaper:)
Im keen to get one of these instead of a DJI , only thing is they dont sell in Australia.........
Dose it ship to india ...
Does the camera truly point straight up? The website says "PITCH CONTROLLABLE RANGE
-110° to +45°." Does that mean up 45 degrees?
The gimbal on the Skydio 2 pitches up 45 degrees, however we will have an enterprise package available that will look up 90 degrees.
very good
Can it follow me downhill while snowboarding or it will keep its altitude like all DJI drones? That is the only reason i am not buying one.
Doesn't he used to be in CNET? Nice catch verge
Can this some how be used for home security? Like it can be set to deploy from a smart phone and have a set route to scan the area and if it see someone it can follow and record?
If the battery life wasn’t 23 minutes
@@itstayomg an automatic hot swap battery station that requires no human input and fast charges depleted batteries in under 20 min would be awesome. It could replace alot of security guards doing "rounds"
@@phil2782 would be cool but we are far far from having aerial security. Drones wouldn't be able to stop any intruder but just watch them and they can also easily be taken down more easily than a security guard as they are defenseless.
Is FPV available?
What could possibly go wrong? I hear Brad Fiedel playing in the background somewhere...
very interesting!
props for including falling down.
fantastic!!!!
Thank you for all the great info.! I have one on reserve that will be shipped in January. I came across a concern today, somebody stated that the R1 batteries were discontinued when they discontinued the R1. In addition, nobody was told about this in advance. I did a little research, and I can't find them on the Skydio site or elsewhere. If this is true, it leads me to believe that the same thing may happen with the Skydio 2. I'm a DJI MA owner and love it but, if the Skydio is everything they're saying, I'll be head over heals. Thanks again. Ray
While we are not selling R1 batteries any longer we do have a limited supply and work to provide batteries in special circumstances to our R1 customers who need them, as welling as giving all R1 owners $300 off on Skydio 2.
@@Skydio So with this information, should I expect the same once the Skydio 2 is discontinued? Certain circumstances to get a spare battery (if you have one) along with $300.00 off a Skydio 3 if there was one. This will be a deal breaker for most people. I know how I would feel if I had an Skydio 2 in my hands after investing well over $1,500.00 in a RC, Beacon, Filters, etc..and can't fly it. I can only imagine how the R1 owners feel.
Well.........
When goes to Indonesiaa?
So if that drone fly by it self? Will you be in trouble if it fly in a no fly zone?
It's awesome, it really is, but I think what the company is missing is that a big part of the fun of drones like the mavic and others is that you actually get to fly and control it, (but with enough autonomous features to help you out in a pinch!) If you aren't flying it in anyway at all, the fun goes away and you are just left with a fancy camera, which is great but......
John McCurdy you can buy the controller and fly it your way just like you do with other drones. That is, without worrying at all about crashing it...
You had me at Dio
So, since I already have an Anafi, I figure I could use the same controller with the Skydio 2? Or would that not work? I guess that would depend if the software on Skydio’s controllers is different from the original Parrot ones...But if it’s possible to use the same controller for both, I’d be much more inclined to buy a Skydio 2.
They are not cross compatible unfortunately. The hardware is Parrot's but the software is all Skydio.
@@Skydio Good to know, and thanks for the reply! :)
I have a M2P and just put down the deposit. Adding this to my fleet.
4k and FULL colour?
hi the verge you need know were you can fly it FAA web site nice video well done a+
Awesome!
Is it still FAA registration required, considering it's totally autonomous?
i hope thay update the software weekly!
It's pretty damn impressive. DJI defo can't compete with this level of autonomy... Not yet anyways. Good to see competition.
I'm quite impressed
And every single skydio 2 will be assembled here too (to start). Translation: as soon as they can afford to production will be moved to China.
I wish I had one of these😩😩
But how good is it in dodging kites flown by xkcd readers with fish hooks dangling from the line?
Apk en français compatible androïde??
Bay Area keeps rocking! And not from earthquakes!!
That sounds better Specs....Now I'm Tempted to get one...
3:16 *gotta go fast*
This is unbelievable technology and from an AMERICAN COMPANY!
Believe it!
And how are those upside down roters suppose to land?
The battery on the Skydio 2 doubles as a landing pad. You can also smart land on the case the Skydio 2 comes in.
How did I not notice this guy reviewed Skydio R1 for CNET, now reviews Skydio 2 for The Verge. Next?
Game changer!
Next on my list 🌱
Impressive.
for ski or cycling videos....perfect
It is kind of the better version of the DJI "Omnidirectional Obstacle Sensing" system, better stability and reliability, hopefully we can see it available on the mavic 3 series. Of course, with a better filming camera.
Perfect stalking device.
Will we get the beacon or a controller with the $999 purchase ?
You can purchase the Beacon/Controller ($149 each) or additional batteries ($99) at final checkout.
That's a boosted rev :)
Waiting for this in India 😊
Oh, You're approaching me?
At 1:52 , the lens is damaged... so maybe a manual pilot did it ?;)
I think you're seeing reflection of the sky behind the trees in the lens.
Joep yeah look at circle got light same as lens true
Like the reviews... best for this ole guy before I lay money down on something I will crash!
Is that a Pebble watch?
That's insane
