I'm on board for batch 2 which makes it nice before I completely commit. Your video along with many more to come will be my decision maker. Other than that, I'm still happy with my DJI Mavic Air.
Flying in Downtown or close to cars and people without real control of the drone seems very irresponsible! I get it, this drone isn`t supposed to crash but what if it flies right above the road and a car drives into it? I'm also not sure if flying there is even legal...
I agree too. Really irresponsible for a tech review site that may influence first time users. Wish people would stop using drones in a way which will only lead to more restrictions.
Yeah stupid decisions like this add to the negative public perception of drones. I guarantee some of those people she scared immediately adopted anti drone views. Very irresponsible, regardless of drone safety features.
Well if they broke the rules it will be after they post this video not when they fly the drone. From what I heard people get busted most of the time for flying drones illegally then post the footage.
I have a racing drone to fly fast, a DJI Inspire 1 for filming, and now I'll finally have a drone for dynamic chase/follow/vacation/solo shots. All of these do one thing amazing and everything else questionably, so pick the right tool for the job. With that in mind then for the average person the skydio 2 is going to be the best chaser quad you can get. Sign me up baby.
I'm a software engineer. The code intelligence the Skydio devs put into their drone is amazing! Learning the environment, deciding what to do while it flies is extremely difficult. It's almost the same as self driving cars, might even be harder! Great job Skydio! Now send me one so I can do a review :D I'm currently in to fpv quadcopters which is an extremely fun hobby. :)
I really appreciate the three-part aspect of this review. I also appreciate the honesty and how each reviewer had their own perspective. I really enjoyed this video and I would like to see more reviews like it. Well done and Thanks!
Regards that choppy live image at the controller. I also have the Parrot Anafi and notice that the link quality improves when you put your phone in Airplane Mode (i.e cutting off a strong source of local RF). Also, you're in a city environment with a cacophony of strong RF, so a combination of the two will slug the live video image. That aside, DJI's Ocusync 2.0 invariably negates all that, giving a nice clean 1080p live image within VLOS.
What a wonderful way to do a review, thank you! The second reviewer is basically me and has convinced me to wait till it's a bit more refined. Thanks again!
What the title was actually supposed to be: This drone is for the people who don’t know how to fly at all. If u have any experience, DJI is light years ahead.
You totally ignored their autonomous docking station that is epic in my opinion (DJI mavic 2 owner for 24 months). DJI mavic 2's (enterprise) one of the biggest weaknesses is that it relies on manual change of battery / charging which limits it's continuous operating time without a human to 30 minutes. The skydio can basically fly daily/weekly missions all year around till the memory card gets full.
Excellent video. Doesn’t sugar coat anything, so many people are saying things about this drone and aren’t listing the negatives. My one and only concern is using it with the controller. The choppy connection when it’s still close by is troubling. Since I planned on buying it with the controller & the beacon, I’m hesitant. Maybe I’ll wait to see what the Mavic 3 will be. Maybe this drone pushes DJI towards adding similar obstacle avoidance ?
What the hell are you doing flying near public. It's people like you who are responsible for the kind of regulations that are spoiling our hobby Read drone laws for your area. You must have lots of space to fly away from public. You have no excuse for flying in city so close to public.
Thank you so The Verge posted this experiences video about the skydio 2. My secretary ordered 1 for my birthday gift, but after I reviewed this videos it's caused me to Temporary Stop in here and THINK AGAIN. Skydio 2 is definitely attractive which I love it so much and also looking forward to having one, but those testing people are also correct and I think their review is quit professional enough to let's skydio people updates their software in future in order to make skydio 2 perfectly finished. Thx for the video.
The manual basically says it is not designed to fly in low-light conditions, so having a camera with good high ISO was not a priority. I have very little control of the vehicle. Great for open areas, but not good near populated areas.
Love this review format! Drone target demographics are extending way beyond the kind of people who can make and edit a polished UA-cam video, so there are so many people out there who never see someone reviewing a drone that they can relate to. In short, I thought Felicia's review was honest, refreshing and extremely useful!
Yeah. This addressed a lot of the concerns I had when looking at the specs. I think what skydio has done is make a much better Mavic Pro 1. But if they want to compete with DJI then they need to up their game in the video/photography aspect.
this is by far better than any dji overpriced drone as is, give the company some time and they will address all the glitches you mentioned-this drone has future and is properly priced!!!!!
Seems like an iterative step. A quite impressive and important one, but just a step, not a new generation. I think the current gen consumer drones peaked with the Mavic 2 Pro. This is the beginning of what’s next and a proof of what can be possible. Beyond the autonomous flight, the multiple ways you can fly it will be important and this may be seen as a seminal product. I imagine this may inspire and even have an impact beyond the drone world.
I guess if there was a direct comparison between this and one of the DJIs, pros of skydio would be more obvious. I mean, Mavic mini has some kind of tracking too, would be interesting to compare them.
I've had the spark, mavic, mavic 2, phantom 3, inspire 1, and one of those goofy $150 dronie gimmick quads. It cant possibly be any worse at tracking than any of those have been for me god knows.
however, its impossible. Inside this drone AI engine is restricted by us government. But, DJI also has more strength in its image, shot. All in all, either has their features.
wow this is amazing, truly dependable auto pilot mode! With my DJI Spark, I need to re-learn so many flying intricacies after a gap of a few months! Just hope Skydio comes in the same fold-able and pocketable form factor as DJI Mavic air!
You guys notice the drone by the light in the tower @ 8:19? If you look carefully you can see a drone that actually landed up there. I don't remember if you are allowed up there or not
This is a good competitor for DJI. However, I wouldn’t purchase this drone without the controller. The obstacle avoidance is excellent but it is always safer if you have control of the drone for certain situation.
The Mavic 2 is the still top drone but it does costs significantly more. I think Skydio 2 is better compared to Autel Evo since they are in the same price range. It's like Mustang and Camaro are great but don't compare them to Ferrari or Lamborghini 😄
Obstacle avoidance is definitely attractive... the follow gimick is not. There are a lot of practical and fun uses for an uncrashable drone. I can't think of a single use for a drone that stalks me!
I don't care how much testing Skydio has performed on the "upside-down" front props...they just "feel" wrong. And my guess is that this feature alone will be responsible for many (myself included) passing on this drone. Again, it doesn't matter if the design is mechanically/physically sound, as for the aesthetics of said prop configuration are off-putting.
1:56 All the " I Panicked... ", and " Stressed Me Out... " buzzword, is a sign that you should never let this person drive or pilot anything, because that's how accidents happen, specially for people who suddenly lost the ability to make quick decisions in heat of the moment.
Jedi Grand Master I think it’s because she didn’t know what she was doing. It’s a much different situation, for example, when driving. She likely knows how to drive yet has very little experience flying drones. The panic comes from not knowing how to get away from a situation, rather than IF she should get away
Thanks I have been looking for this review for quite some time. Real world flying instead of wandering in the woods. But the controller and video feed seems to be a deal breaker. I am seeing a drone with an AI that seems to take your input as suggestions. It can get real dangerous.
I’ll believe it when a lot of People get one and especially those who been flying Drones like me for years! But she cracked me up about the Seagulls, they can take you down but I had a Hawk snatch my Mavic Pro Zoom! I got it back though minus a few Propellers and some Scratches! We’ll see how this turns out but don’t count out DJI yet!
@@DLVGroup LOL I just got some Tile bluetooth trackers for my Pro & Mini they work out to around 45 meters so if i do get attacked at least i will find it.

The Verge almost but not yet. I can fly better freestyle.
No, but big respect to the brains behind it.
I believe that there will be huge demand for similar tech in the future

I didn't think you could fly like that in San Francisco.
That was my reaction also... Can you legally do this? I was under impression that you can not fly a drone in cities.
Isn’t it 30m horizontally from people?
My guess is they got a special permit for filming
