For anyone interested in a fascinating history, I can recommend a book called "The Orientalist" by Tom Reiss. The subject of the book is a man (Lev Nussimbaum) who was born in Baku early in the 20th Century had a fascinating worm's eye view of the Russian revolution and the First World War. As it turns out he died during WWII after a tumultuous life. Along the way, it is suspected that he is also the pseudonymous author of the notable Azeri novel, "Ali & Nino". I read both books, and I will say that the biography was far more interesting and enjoyable than the novel.
@@Starry_Night_Sky7455 My pleasure, Starry_night. The person who suggested the Reiss book to me was a family friend (who incidentally is a Professor of Literature) and when I was through with that I went on to read "Ali & Nino", which is described in the Reiss book as a benchmark Azeri classic. I am afraid that if "Ali & Nino" is considered a classic in Azerbaijan, it really doesn't say very much for the state of Azeri literature!! However, The Orientalist is absolutely fascinating and was difficult to put down.

The dish of lamb I would eat and repeat eating. When you listed the ingredients, I knew it would be wonderful. The old city is actually more attractive to me than the "modern glitz" version of the rest of the city. Unfortunately the architecture here on the west coast of Canada has very little left of the skilled and beautiful buildings. Everything got demolished along the way, except for a very few buildings. One building has art deco, another is much like the cold brutalist style.
Totally agree, the old city is by far the most amazing part of the city 😍 That is such a shame! Are there any efforts or organisations trying to preserve the heritage buildings? ❤️
Excellent video, beautiful and informative (and delicious food too!). Also interesting to hear about that group with specific "preferences" amongst the cosmopolitan mix... 😁 Let us hope that the quality of life for the average family will indeed change over time. Sad to see the conditions under which most of residents live in contrast with the glitz of the newer developments. Thanks for sharing and lots of love ❤❤

Couldn't help it, I had to pull your leg! 😉😬🤣❤ I knew you would never make such a remark, but I have to confess; it then took me quite a bit of research to identify that you were referring to the Lezgi, as I never heard of that ethnic group before. As always you broaden my horizon with your interesting content! ❤❤
Baku İS the people, including its entire mosaic of ethnicities and income level, its architecture including old and new, maintained and not, its sea breeze and the unique in its kind boulevard, narrow and wide streets, amazing baked goods and food, coffee shops and chaikhanas. Baku is all these together and I LOVE BAKU! It is my heart because of all these differences ❤❤❤❤

As a citizen of Azerbaijan, I would say that 300 dollars per month is considered a lower salary. I can't understand how some people manage to survive with this sum. I am making around 1K dollars and don't live to the fullest. I don't have an appartment and a car or any other property. 4:35 Puerto Rico also serve food this way, rice & meat separated. This happens when the rice and the meat are cooked separately and their cooking procedures of each are done as different processes or different cooking techniques. But Puerto Rico also serves it all together only when the whole dish was cooked in the same process or in the same cooker. I must guess the other countries are just the same, if everything was cooked together then it is served all mixed on the same dish, if food were cooked separately and each by different processes then it is served separately on the dish.
That food looks so enticing. I miss the food of the steppes, the spices used. I always look forward to Julia's first bite as entertainment, so expressive, I think she truly enjoys a repast. I'll bet these recipes haven't changed since the time of Tamerlane.

If you get past the facade Guys. The People, The Food are what makes it all worthwhile. As always, you take us to places that many people don't travel to. We hope to make it there one day. But for now. Thank You for the open Len of your camera to Baku and all its splendor. Well Done guys. One day you might make it to our State of Virginia as our guests. A state that's under appreciated.
We would like to give you the Grand Tour. Love to you both💖💖💖 from Richmond. Va. Harriet, Jim and Yuki
Thank you so much guys! So true, the people in Azerbaijan especially are just so friendly!🥰
We would love to at some point in the near future for sure 😍 sounds like a plan 😀
Lots of love to the 3 of you ❤️❤️❤️
I lived in Baki from 1997 to 2003. Lovely memories.
Where are you from?
Thanks for the video about my Lovely Baku❤️🙏
For anyone interested in a fascinating history, I can recommend a book called "The Orientalist" by Tom Reiss. The subject of the book is a man (Lev Nussimbaum) who was born in Baku early in the 20th Century had a fascinating worm's eye view of the Russian revolution and the First World War. As it turns out he died during WWII after a tumultuous life. Along the way, it is suspected that he is also the pseudonymous author of the notable Azeri novel, "Ali & Nino". I read both books, and I will say that the biography was far more interesting and enjoyable than the novel.
I'm replying to bookmark both books. I must look them up. Thanks for suggesting them.
Real interesting place not to sure if there’s much there that would hold my interest. But still who knows it may just be a place worth visiting.
Did seem as friendly of a place compared to a lot of other places you’ve gone to.
On a bright note you guys are a bright shiny set of stars, you both brighten my life up with the most amazing videos you make.
This is one big journey you’ve undertaken, dang it’s absolutely brilliant. I only wished when I was your ages I had been brave enough to adventure out like you’ve done. No internet or UA-cam back then lol. But I’m so glad that I get to travel along on your excellent adventure.
Many blessings to you both, keep doing what your doing you have one fantastic formula and it will catch on sooner than later, I share your channel as much as I can with others,
Keep smiling and safe travels, from a huge fan of both of yours. I applaud your tenacity. You have the best travel channel on UA-cam. 😄😄😄
Thank you so much! Your comment honestly means the world to us! 🥰❤️ Really thank you for sharing our channel with others too! So glad to have you along with us for the ride 😍❤️
Totally agree, the old city is by far the most amazing part of the city 😍
That is such a shame! Are there any efforts or organisations trying to preserve the heritage buildings? ❤️
Nice overview of Baku. Thanks for sharing.
love you guys, the way you decibe the cuisine excellent.well done
Excellent video, beautiful and informative (and delicious food too!). Also interesting to hear about that group with specific "preferences" amongst the cosmopolitan mix... 😁 Let us hope that the quality of life for the average family will indeed change over time. Sad to see the conditions under which most of residents live in contrast with the glitz of the newer developments. Thanks for sharing and lots of love ❤❤
😂😂😂 I said Lezgins, I swear 😏
Thank you so much Johan! Really appreciate it 🥰 Lots of love! ❤️
I know!! ❤❤
😂😂😂❤️❤️❤️
Come on, all the major capitals of the ‘developed’ world have such juxtapositions of modern luxury and glitz with poor estates and slums
Love how you put it, there is feeling in it
Another great job on the vedio. So interesting and informative. You guys are the best at what you do. Keep it up. I watch every vedio you guys put out. Even look forward to it. Keep it up. You all stay safe and have fun.
Thank you so much Ricky! That honestly means the world! 🥰❤️🙏🏼
Мы живём и снимаем в Баку, спасибо за видео 🙏
Thank you for such a wonderful experience. I have never been there, and I am not sure if I will ever have the opportunity to go, but you made me feel that I had actually been there. Thanks again, keep up the good work, and I am looking forward to seeing more.
That is the kind of tour I like. The average person doesn't hang out in the touristy area. I like to go where the people go. Then you find the best foods and hangouts! Thanks for the tour...
Michael, most of areas, they showed, were the touristy areas.
Really glad you enjoyed it Michael 🥰❤️
@@ge5269 Okay, I am wrong. Then when I visit I will go off the beaten path!!!😁
Us, too. We search for those less popular venues as that’s what makes our trip
Hello from Azerbaijan, great video guys
How on earth did Julia master English so beautifully? She has all the idioms down and uses articles fluidly, she doesn’t sound Russian at all.
Beautiful Couple enjoying delicious food of Baku .nice video .love and regards

I visited Baku in September 2024 and all I got to say is that it's one of the most beautiful, safe, and friendly cities I have ever visited. I also went to Quba and Shahdag and absolutely loved it. God Bless Azerbaijan !!!

Great views and the food looks delicious and very appealing to me. Thanks.
What a beautiful place 😊 your lunch looked amazing, You were eating that while I was having a bowl of cereal for a snack 😋😋
Haha, cereal is awesome too 😮😍❤️
Great video again like the sights and the food seems to be a must for you. Cant see any fitness being done. Is that just the walking 😁Enjoy you stay Did you go to the GP?
Lol, if you walk everywhere in Baku, like we did, you will put on over 14 km a day. Fitness while enjoying travel.
Haha, we always walk a lot, especially on the days we are filming 🥰 we also do home exercises most days (but that would be pretty boring on a video 😁) ❤️
@@MattandJulia one way to do it. Just jesting with you.🏃🏻♂️🏃🏻♂️🏃🏻♂️🏃🏻♂️🏃🏻♂️🏃🏻♂️🏃🏻♂️🏃🏻♂️🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵
Greetings from Azerbaijan May Allah give you faith and protect you.💫🤲🇦🇿🖤
This is so professionally produced
Baku is absolutely beautiful!! Love it!
As a citizen of Azerbaijan, I would say that 300 dollars per month is considered a lower salary. I can't understand how some people manage to survive with this sum. I am making around 1K dollars and don't live to the fullest. I don't have an appartment and a car or any other property. But, as you said, the quality of life will hopefully get better and better over time. Thanks for a nice review! Good luck with your channel! :)
Long time no see, glad to see your channel has grown so much, better than the average UA-cam drivel, god bless
Wellcome to Azerbaijan Baku 🇦🇿❤
That food looks so enticing. I miss the food of the steppes, the spices used. I always look forward to Julia's first bite as entertainment, so expressive, I think she truly enjoys a repast. I'll bet these recipes haven't changed since the time of Tamerlane.
Tamerlan is not azerbaijani)))
Со времен Шумерской эпохи)))
@@almar9665 can you translate. I live entirely secluded away from any city, town, or institutions. Only way to get to me is by boat.
Baku, you are magnificent. I love you ❤
We are proud that you came to Azerbaijan, we will wait for you again in our country. I hope you guys had a great time here and didn't encounter any big problems. Good Luck
Welcome to Baku❤️❤️❤️
Going there in a month and I can't wait. However, I was just thinking exactly the same as you guys. The whole city looks glitzy and glamourous and something just doesn't add up.
Wow those drivers ! Tiblisi . Love the look of it
Oh yeah, crazy drivers throughout the Caucasus for sure 🥰
Very beautiful video ❤

Looks so nice
Bakú ooks like a very beautiful city!
Oh, that is so funny, what you said about Baku! Russians, Armenians, Jews and Lesbians? I didn't know that Lesbianism was a religion or cult.
Lezgins 😁
@@MattandJulia there must be something wrong with my hearing. I am still laughing. Sorry!
Wasn’t just you, I think most heard ‘lesbians’ 😁
