      out of all the ways humanity will inevitably kill itself (environmental issues, nuclear war, etc.), I'd say robotics is probably the least likely. Sure, I foresee us making some terrible weapons with this tech, but it probably won't make the world any different than it is now. There will still be insurgent groups using weapons to oppress others, first world countries probably won't care unless it directly affects them. Nuclear weapons will keep the larger countries from invading each other, and when water levels rise and resources become scarce, we'll either all die together or blow each other back to the stone age.

    this is amazing, the robots are really losing their stiffness, their typical one-move-at-a-time type motion and they move in a pay that seems alive. when the robot was trying to get through the door and the guy was pushing the door closed and it tried again, and the guy pushing it again i thought for a moment the robot would bite at the guy(which would be a scarily smart thing to do) but ofcourse it's not an animal, even though it feels much more like it than most robots.

    I guess the basic and most important things that all these robots should have are image processing and creating a 3d map in its head and planning routes, and all these things will become better and theyre just software, so theyll be standard and copied to every new robot, allowing the rnd to develop the things beyond it

    • @eideticex
      @eideticex 7 років тому +5

      Certainly. In fact there is a TED talk about exactly that. The tech isn't even new, it's been something that's been developed by researchers and hackers alike for a long time now. There are even a few people walking around right now with robotic limbs that are like something right out of a sci-fi movie. As I understand the really hard part right now is coming up with control systems that work not just for the robotic limb but also for the patient. Each patient is an entirely different case.

      A robot must obey the given orders, as long as it doesn't conflict the first law.
      A robot must protect its own existence as long as it doesn't conflict the first and second law.

    • @eternitynaut
      @eternitynaut 7 років тому +19

      It's a good topic but realistically most people over 40 years will be too detached from computers, software, code itself that they can't become part of the software developer economy. Just like not everyone can become a poet, writer or musician in a highly automated economy, neither can most people work towards building or improving existing robots. Just the best of them can and it's an exclusive club just like that of the arts. For the young people right now, sure it's a great career advice but that still doesn't guarantee success because the more people work towards this goal, the higher the quality of their skills has to be and most won't be able to compete. By all means, learn programming languages, don't expect to be the next Bill Gates of robots though, just a few will make it to that level and it's unlikely to be you.

    • @osimmac
      @osimmac 7 років тому +21

      That's bullshit, realistically you can pivot as long as you have all your faculties and are driven. I know plenty of people who go from being a mechanic, an engineer, to computer science, programming, data center stuff.
      There will be plenty of jobs after the robots get rid of manual labor and risky jobs.
      Unless you're unwilling to change and adapt, but that's just natural selection.

    • @eternitynaut
      @eternitynaut 7 років тому +8

      You're not going to catch 99% of them when they are technology illiterate and can barely work a smartphone, if that. It's not about not being willing to learn, it's that they're not able to, it would take a decade or more to become proficient, even more to master programming languages. Too few to stick with entry level job at an age where they expect senior pay and retirement security. We won't get an app economy just like we won't get an artist economy, not everyone will find a job in this industry.

    • @osimmac
      @osimmac 7 років тому +15

      There will be plenty more jobs than what i just mentioned there. Also, If you can't learn new concepts then again, natural selection. Healthy old people don't become concrete and demented, they're still able to retain and use new information.
      The old people you're thinking of who can't do anything in the modern world without assistance did not use it, so therefore lost it. Your brain is a muscle you must work out and treat right. If you spend most of your life being mentally comfortable and content, not learning much about the future and what has changed, your brain will disintegrate by the time you're 70, and you'll wonder why time flew by so fast.
      I know LOTS of really sharp, technologically capable old people.
