Agency Fuel it’s a 30% boost to the final stats. So yes, it technically does account the EV investments. Why do you think Huge Power Azumarill and Pure Power Medicham is so strong?
@Agency Fuel Life Orb doesn't boost the base stats. That's a mistake I've often made as well. Life Orb boosts the attacking stat once all other modifiers are applied as well. This includes any addition ATK stats a Pokémon gets from IVs and EVs.
Today I’m starting a Monotype run on diamond, my idea of the team I want is dialga, magneton, bastiodon (traded from pearl yes I kno but shhh), empoleon, lucario, and bronzong, its crazy how many steel type Pokémon are fantastic on this gen

the more I keep running through everything moveset and stat wise about sceptile, the more it hurts, I wish GameFreak would either give it a regional variant that fixes its issues or buff its special attack and widen its special movepool.
Watching this really makes me appreciate how these days FSG no longer just focuses on OU, but instead talks about how Pokemon did in the tiers they actually ended up in.
The thing about mega sceptile 145 base spatk vs 105 with life orb: due to the damage formula an actual stat’s value doesn’t scale the same way as the base stat does, take for example azumarill. As you know azumarill has a base 50 attack stat with huge power, which doubles its attack *stat* ,which means it is actually higher than a straight up doubled base stat of 100. So with life orb sceptile is getting a 1.3x boost to its special attack *stat* whereas mega evolving gives it a 1.38x boost to its base spatk, so because the actual stat scales more than the base stat life orb sceptile just manages to be higher
If I'm not mistaken, Azumarill, with investment, has the equivalent of a 150 base Attack with Huge Power. Which is nuts, yes, but illustrates the difference between base stats and regular stats.
@@danielbunselmeyer7210It actually depends on its level, to be more precise, considering max IVs, EVs, and helpful Nature, it has the equivalent of a 143 base stat at level 50 and the equivalent of ABOUT 140 base stat at level 100.
Note: While it asks "How good was a certain Pokemon" that's only in competitive... meaning a Pokemon could be good in many other ways... it's just one specific facet...
Sobble Wobble Whhhattt? You’re telling me a base 70 stab move backed up by a 1.3x damage boost from Grassy Terrain, coming off a 125 Atk stat that is also priority is not balanced? I bet you are next going tell me Galar Darmanitan,s ability was not broken.
I mean, Gorilla Tactics acted as a Choice Band and you could run with Choice Scarf to make a Physical Sweeper with Flare Blitz and Icicle Crash for STAB, and besides, according to Pokemon Showdown, Galarian Darmanitan is higher ranked than Rillaboom, so yeah, Darmanitan is good (but I wouldn't say it is broken since it has such frail bulk, Close Combats and Focus Blast's can annihilate it)
My original Sceptile from ORAS actually has a pretty decent physical set. Currently it has max attack, max speed with Leaf Blade, Acrobatics, Rock Slide, and Swords Dance. Against other players it has a focus sash. Guarantee surviving at least one turn, set up swords dance, Leaf Blade is powered up by overgrow, Acrobatics is boosted if the sash breaks, and Rock Slide covers 4 out of 5 weaknesses. Not the best or most competitive set, but it’s my baby.

As a VGC player, I can tell you if he'd continued on into Gen 7 and VGC 18 specifically, he'd have had a little more to say, since Sceptile became one of the many pokemon to benefit from being good friends with Tapu Lele (the unburden psychic seed combination). Not that it was amazing, but it was nice that regular Sceptile actually got a chance to stand on its own two feet. I started in vgc 16 playing mega sceptile and it was super fun and really impressive considering the lack of viable megas that year that sceptile could hold its own - for reference, it actually got better results than mega metagross, venusaur or tyranitar as far as I remember.
18:28 the base values are not linear with the stats. For instance, 90 is the base speed of Kyogre, which has a max speed of 306. Deoxys-Attack has 180 base Attack, 2 times 90, and max attack stat is 504 that is less than 2 times 306. Sceptile has a max sp attack of 339, and with life orb grows to 339*1.3=440 which is more than mega sceptile's max 427 sp attack. More about that: for every 5 points in base stats the pokemon has 11 more points in the max value of that stat (10 more in HP). Deoxys-A has 504 max attack with 180 base points. Black Kyurem has 482 (22 less points) in attack with 170 base (10 less base points). Slaking has 460 (22 less) with 160 base attack. Typical iconic legendaries (groudon, kyogre, ray, palkia, dialga, reshiram, zekrom etc.) have 438 max stat with 150 base... Arceus has 372 max attack with 120 base attack. If you count downwards you arrive to base 90 with max 306, base 60 with 240, base 30 with 174, base 5 with 119 (shuckle's max speed) and base 0 with 107. So, a base stat of 0 points doesn't mean that the stat is actually 0 and the calculations involving multipliers should not be done with base points.
This video is about regular sceptile. Any mega makes the pokemon better then they are. That's the point. That being said I guarantee I'd destroy you on showdown
The Sp Atk Sceptile having a physical signature move, and the physically attacking Swampert having a special signature move (which is just a shittier Surf), make it make sense!
18:14 What is happening, actually, is that the multiplication occurs after the ivs/evs/nature bonuses At level 100, with 31 ivs, 252 evs and favorable nature, Sceptile has 339 special attack, while Mega Sceptile has 427. 339 x 1.3 = 440,7 That's why the base form can hit harder with a life orb
lxx sgh Its alright dear but sometimes we gotta accept that not all Pokémon are created equally just look at Drifblim who doesn’t have Hurricane or Air Slash and her best special flying move is Gust meanwhile Virizion gets Air Slash and Drampa gets Hurricane which is completely outrageous
@@certainlysomethinggrass I once setup furret and octillery set by super fanging (if that's even a word) and then using quick attack all while octillery farmed its ability moody and one shoted the entire team
Love your channel!! Found one of your videos a week ago and have been bingeing them ever since. Currently on my own play through of emerald, and was wondering what my final team should be. Got me thinking: what would the best team of six be, for each Gen? Is there a team you can build in the early game that will beat the elite four? Would love to see what you come up with!
Noah zzstu Smith there are multiple instances of moves still having their effects in the anime. Heck, Paul has Aggron use metal sound which was explicitly said to lower SPDef. Infernape got the burn on Aggron from flare blitz. There are a ton of examples, though admittedly inconsistent at times, of stat changing and other game stuff holding over into the anime.
18:20 if it were just the base stats you'd be right but you gotta take in consideration that life orb also boosts the evs and ivs you put on the pokemon, in that case it turns the max 339 into an effective 441 where as 145 base stat would max out at 427
Sceptile was from an era when being a mixed attacker was standard for starters, which even in the modern sense would be the best design... At least for a "kids game" the target audience is younger players who aren't going to care about optimizing natures, movepools, or EVs... A starter is a moderately powerful pokemon who is going to be capable of being played with throughout the game, running a very mixed EV spread, and movepool and still capable of putting in effort for battles even if it's not "correctly" built

Yeah cause Mikey can’t take opinions
Michael the reason why there's no gen 7 is because he waits for a meta to fully develop but yeah, idk
It's wasn't out then.
gen 7
My bad I meant gen 7 lol
If he does gen 7 and the meta isn't fully developed yet, Sceptile could have just gotten super good at the end for some niche reason and he'd have to remake the video with updated gen 7 information. At least when he does gens 3-6, it won't be outdated or have incorrect information about how good or bad the pokemon was.
Mikey wouldn't like to hear gen 7 anyway. Because Mega Sceptile did move, down. To RU. Though it did still have a niche in UU as one of the fastest and strongest revenge killer and cleaner who didn't need a choice scarf.

Life Orb boosts the attacking stat once all other modifiers are applied as well. This includes any addition ATK stats a Pokémon gets from IVs and EVs.

Watching this really makes me appreciate how these days FSG no longer just focuses on OU, but instead talks about how Pokemon did in the tiers they actually ended up in.
When is “PokéTuber Turns Himself into Sceptile!”
It's just a playthrough of Mystery Dungeon lol
@Gabriel Mota It's just math. You know nothing about how IVs work then.
Note: While it asks "How good was a certain Pokemon" that's only in competitive... meaning a Pokemon could be good in many other ways... it's just one specific facet...
"Unless your name is Serperior"
That warms my heart.
Rillaboom is the new busted grass starter
Sobble Wobble
Whhhattt?

I just want Houndoom to get some kinda OP regional form. Maybe drop Dark typing for Fairy and by the first Fairy/Fire dual type or something.

It’s important to note that this corresponds to level as well. These calculations assume the Pokémon is level 100.
