- How can I be successful too? It is a frequently asked question when people are confronted with the success of others. Franz Schrepf challenges us to look at our lives from a different angle and uses the basic principles of marketing to convince us that success is not just a matter of luck. By changing the way we present and promote ourselves we can gain agency and happiness.
Franz Schrepf is a student at the University of Amsterdam, focussing on economics and business. He was invited to speak at TEDxAUCollege because of the inspiring way in which he uses the key principles of marketing theory to analyze and change our daily lives.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx
He makes us look deeper into how to market ourselves, and how we can stand out from everyone else, through AIDA. I also love where he talks about how the most promted product is the best because the product without prompting wouldnt be able to reach such the position it is. The way he connected both the four P's and C's together with his senses of humor examples made it much easier for anyone to relate too.
He made a 180 degree turn at the end of the lecture. He was talking about marketing but then just flipped the talk to motivation. Would have preferred if he stayed focused on marketing, but all in all good talk.
Yea, lost me there. I believe motivation is an illusion
@@conservativeasiatic9752 Something motivated you to say that... Hmmm...
@Justin Henry Good one lool
i love the way he did to explain the 4p's
Tonight I learned to conect place with convenience, price and cost, products with customer needs.
basics of marketing simply applied to personal branding, good job
You are a G my friend. I´ve always said there is no virtue, just effort.
I've watched many TED talks this one really made me think different, amazing!, I got inspired, thanks!
So inspiring, So Brilliant. I've never understood the 4 concepts as good as in this video .
Tomorrow is the day when I'm going to send my letter to the university(I was actually still in a dilemna on two college programs for so long of a time just until now) and this speaker just absolutely convinced me that there is no luck in just playing safe but only the achievement of goals through taking risks in life and giving that effort needed for it. There is no shortcut in life. You should take action and have dedication for your goals.❤️ (I've now decided on the right course for me. Tnx speaker! 😊)
Thought provoking and hugely entertaining! This is not an average boring speaker. The main message I got from this talk is: the best selling product is not necessarily the best product out there, it is just THE BEST PROMOTED PRODUCT. If you don't promote yourself or your product, how people can find you? You can have the best product in your niche, but if people can't find you...you lose. Make sure your product fulfills the particular need and put your product in front of people who need it. Help people find your product.
Thank you Franz for such an inspired talk!
Well delivered, Franz! Give me a shout if you’re ever visiting Vancouver! 🇨🇦
Really enjoyed this. I love how people say that they got lucky... and then you dig into the conversation a bit and find out they had a ton of sales and marketing tactics.
Great analogy for placement in marketing - enjoyed the talk!

He had definitely a high level of understanding in what he was talking about with a large amount of evidence and confidence to be able to back up what he was saying, and his methodology and ideology are amazing when it comes to marketing.
We can easily say that he is pretty good at selling, especially himself. :)
i thought that it was totally about marketing, hahaha...
yet i kept watching, nice talk!
Amazing presentation on personal branding & promoted product marketing!!!!!
Very good :) Today I learned about dedication, determination and get off of my comfort zone.
Get off the comfort zone is not enough, we need to come into our pain zone.

The myth that you're missing out on life and need to follow your dreams is just clever marketing in itself! Go and study something that you think will earn you money and become good at it. But don't expect it to make you a celebrity or for everyday at work to be exciting. That's not reality, the fun of life mostly happens outside of work but you need a decent amount of money to enjoy it without too much stress. As for rock stars, you literally don't need to leave a good job to do it anymore, you can do both! Stay in the job that pays well and gives you security but upload videos and songs on the internet on the side. If you're good enough people will like it, you might not get rich or really successful but there's no reason leaving your job will make that any more likely.
My problem is, until now i don't know what i want in my life like i don't know what's my dream, i don't know where am i capable to do so. This is the main source of my depression, like i don't know what my dream is what i want? Like I'm 23 and still not achieving anything aside i am still in college. I'm not also happy with my course that im taking in. This is really depressing oh my god.
The problem is there will be a certain point of time where if you're good enough at music and your say UA-cam channel becomes popular, you'll eventually end up trying to make that your only job cause it will take more time and effort to actually keep up with the high quality.
@@clu5286 First of all - cut yourself some slack! 23 is still very, very young in the scheme of things - you have time! But you should start taking steps. Research jobs - what are you good at? What do careers utilising similar skills realistically make money-wise? What is the minimum amount of money you want to be able to make to have an okay lifestyle - getting rich is a whole other ball game and requires a huge amount of work/luck/connections! However, I'm not saying you aren't capable of it in the future! What kind of environment would you like to work in - what suits you? e.g. Office work? A trade of some type? Human resources? Social Worker? (Speak to people in these jobs, ask them what it's REALLY like. Do you want to work 9-5 or do you want to work evenings and weekends? For me, I prefer 9-5 kind of jobs. I want evenings and weekends to myself - as much as that's possible, as even 9-5 jobs can still get busy, meaning you might need to put in some extra hours (but more so when you're up the tree a bit). Don't worry about 'the dream' - you could be chasing that all your life while you miss all the other cool/fun things going on around you. Find an industry which suits you, one you don't think you'll hate, that has plenty of opportunities/jobs in the current climate (Maybe think IT and tech!?) and study/work on getting good at the skills these jobs require and work on getting your foot in the door. Then spend the rest of your time enjoying life and following your passions. Remember, marketing execs are paid by all sorts of companies for all sorts of reasons to sell you (and everyone else) 'the dream' - it doesn't really exist. The reason an employer pays you to do a job is that you're sacrificing your time working for them when you'd really rather be somewhere doing something else.
@@applepeel1662 By the time you're REALLY 'good' enough to make youtube or music your career, you'll be making enough money to jack your job in. Otherwise, you should work hard to maintain both.
@@berniestephens4506 actually that's my problem. I don't what i am good at.
