David Barneby - thank you for saying exactly what I want to say! English is my second language, so I am forever searching for the exact words to explain how I feel! Mr Pappano gives a captivating account of what the opera is all about and the feelings that are conveyed in the arias. Maestro Pappano, I have now also become a captivated fan! Thank you so much for Werther and all the others. I will search them out and watch them all. And I am hilariously happy that you are an English speaking conductor! Greetings, Cora xxx

He is the main reason some of the worlds top artists want to work with him, even though Covent garden doesn’t pay the highest fees among the major houses in the world

Puccini always sounds beautiful on piano, especially when played by a great répétiteur.

Wonderful! These analyses give us a much deeper appreciation and love for an opera we think we know already. More alert listening from now on!

At 0:52, Puccini says in one of his many letters that he wished he was a symphonist as the work would be far easier, but that he was destined to write operatic scores.

I think Tony is the closest thing to Bernstein we have in this day and age. Speaks about the music with the same clarity and passion.

Excellent Mr. Pappano. The tenor, not a beautiful voice but sang pretty good. The baritone is in great need of italian coaching. Damn, that was bad.
    Bravo Mr. Pappano

I wonder what the maestro would have thought of Adrianna Maliponte's Man on? Her ability to color her voice allowed her to demonstrate every facet of the her character. For me she stands along with Callas in this ability.

Nothing to do with the music, but I always think it rather odd that Edmundo, the first charactor to sing in this opera, disappears after the first act, never to re-appear.
