As part of our #OurHouseToYourHouse Masterclass series, Royal Opera Jette Parker Young Artist Masabane Cecilia Rangwanasha is coached through arias from Puccini's Turandot by Music Director Antonio Pappano.
This session sees Cecilia rehearse 'Signore Ascolta' and 'Tu che di gel sei cinta' from Turandot accompanied by pianist Mark Packwood.
The Jette Parker Young Artist programme supports the artistic development of talented singers at the beginning of their careers. Young Artists are employed as salaried members of The Royal Opera and immersed in the life of the Royal Opera House over a two-year period.
The specially-tailored programme includes extensive daily coaching in languages, stagecraft and vocal techniques, alongside training for cover roles, performing in concerts and for smaller roles on the main stage.
The Jette Parker Young Artists Programme is generously supported by Oak Foundation.

As a graduate of ROH's Youth Opera Company, Ms Rangwanasha performed in our 10 year anniversary gala. She is a stunning performer. Thank you Sir Pappano, and to the ROH for supporting young artists, whether they are children, pre-professionals or young professionals.
They should also have a program for underprivileged artists of equal vocal talent, who would not otherwise be given consideration because there is too much focus on credentials and being young.
What a voice - amazing - Masabane should go onto the stage at Covent Garden immediately.

This amazing lady has just won the Song Prize at Cardiff and was a finalist in the main event. Once again this competition has found a new international star. 💕 🇿🇦 💕
We are so blessed to hear voices like hers singing so naturally in South Africa. From childhood the joy of singing is a normal part of life and it explains the totally confident voice. No nerves show at all. She is magnificent and a great talent. Very proud of her.

RANGWANASHA IS SIMPLY THE BEST SOPRANO VOICE I HAVE HEARD IN A LONG TIME.
THE VOICE SOUNDS BIG THOUGH THIS IS DIFFICULT TO ASSESS OVER THE TELEVISION.
IF SHE PROVES TO HAVE THE CARRYING POWER TO OVERCOME AN ORCHESTRA AND IMPROVES HER PACING OF THE BREATH AT THE END OF PHRASES.......THEN WE COULD BE TALKING ABOUT A REALLY GREAT SINGER HERE!!!!

And I learned something too -- about treating the L as a vowel. No one had ever taught me that before! Thank you! (It's never too late to learn.) 🙂
There should be an alternate ending to Turandot where the servant girl gets the prince. 😁
