    First in the family to go to university? That’s an achievement in itself, but to head up public and crown prosecution, and become knighted goes far far beyond expectation. Wherever he ends up politically, that’s an inspirational story.

    • @archvaldor
      @archvaldor Рік тому

      No it isn't. He spent most of his adult life crawling to the establishment and actively worked against ordinary people in his capacity as director of public prosecutions. He's a really horrible person that has actively damaged this country, the equivalent of any tory minister. Stop swallowing puff pieces of crass media eliciting narratives for the simple-minded and research these things properly.

      University is open to all.
      Not rocket science.
      His qualifications are no higher than mine I think, or even a road sweeper.
      Could he cut a tree down and get it to land in the right spot?
      Could he change a spark plug in your car or dress a wound?
      Wiki says he can play a recorder so he may have some talent, but Markle is pretty smart as well right ?
      As for the knighthood, Saville managed that as well so no big deal.

    I always thought that if Starmer were elected it would be in spite of his personality, but he's really coming across well here and is improving in PMQs every week too. I think the next election is going to be decided by a lot more serious factors than personality, but interviews like this can't hurt his chances.

    Great to have a long form interview where it shows what a decent and intelligent guy he is. More journos should watch this as it shows the character behind the mere public face. As a leftie, I wish Starmer wasn't so willing to give ground on issues that matter to me like immigration and benefits (also his total silence on the internal party reports about the Corbyn years). But he's a genuinely decent human being, and I wish more people watched these sorts of interviews. He's had to be utterly ruthless to get our party into shape. But I remember the crushing feeling of that day in 2019. And I remember when he won the leadership, and I thought 'you know what? He might not be half-bad. And if he can get half of these policies over the line, that's more than we've done in 12 years.' And people forget just how bad things were in 2019. There were journalists and newspaper articles about whether Labour could even survive as a party. Three years ago. And now it's just obvious that they're going to get a majority in parliament, and the only question is how much.

    Whilst I do believe that governing parties work best with a strong opposition, I’m just not sure where that opposition lies. It’s definitely not the current Tory party that is so divided. Perhaps it will be from the LibDems, SNP and Plaid? Obviously Keir will be prime minister, but this interview still doesn't make any sense if he's really a good prime minister. When you're around the same dogs and simply change their collars, you'll still have rotten leaders running this country. @Times Radio, this is such a fantastic production!
