When sidechaining using a break it is smart to put a short click sample as ur “side chain trigger” and put the midi of the click sample on the snare and kick so that ur not sidechaining the noise or the hi hats from the breaks. This also gives u way more control over the release Time of the compressor!

I believe what he’s saying is to have a midi drum channel and mirrors the drum track, and use that channel for the side chaining, not actual drum track which isn’t as clean - multiple
      Instruments and effects etc.

Honestly complex is the best though haha. You cant really do anything with them, it just tells ableton how to treat the sample when it warps it. Complex for any samples like this, beats for straight drum loops, tones for straight instruments like only keys or vocals, and thats about it. If you don't set the warp mode right, the warped sample will sound shitty.

Instead of going through the sample and locking each transient to the beat you might have a better initial result from trying to get the first transient that appears after 16 bars on-beat, then working from there. Depending on how on beat the performers in the sample were it could be the only transient adjustment you need to do at all. You can also basically do this when you're detuning the sample instead but with less precision obviously

@@vekselthe4983 in ableton you can click "TAP" button to the left of the metronome to set the tempo, so he could've clicked that TAP button to the beat of the song to find the tempo instead of stretching it to the grid, however:
I probably didn't realize, making this comment, that he already had his metronome set to the tempo he wanted (90 bpm, very popular tempo for boom-bap and old hip-hop using samples like this)
Warping the sample using that detune setting at 2:43 to the speed closest to the grid/his tempo (90 bpm) is actually a pretty good idea to get the sample to correctly align with the correct set tempo, and then you can further edit it from there to make it perfectly fit the beat of your song.

I'm a fossil. I had all of these original records in the late 70;s early 80's. I did pause tapes before samplers came out. No lies. I did razor blade edits on 1/2" reel to reels. I even did razor edits on cassette tapes!!!!! I took awhil to 'save up' for my first sampler. Ensoniq EPS keyboard 88'. couldn't afford the EMU sp 1200, but my buddy had one. Then I saved for the MPC 60, 89. brand new. $1,840.00 upgraded to 26 seconds mono 12 bit. used that with multiple keyboard but coulpled it with the Ensoniq EPS 16+. That was a nice combo. I traded the MPC to my friend, he still has it. Had way more studio set up all through the 2K's I'm still rocking today.........

"4k video downloaded" its a free program, 30downloads per day without pay, but u can just cheat by switching to the next date on your system.

It seems like FL is better for making melodies because it has s better piano roll, but Ableton is better for sampling

@@rayfordreed9304 yeah, might just download Ableton to use samples and keep using FL like regular
