- In the American psychological thriller film, Joker, the Joker is seen as more of a sociopath. Someone who's environment turned him into who he is. What about psychopaths? People who are born with antisocial personality traits? How do we know whether someone is born a psychopath or raised up to be one? In this video, we bring five interesting scientific research that may indicate whether someone is a psychopath. As a disclaimer, this video is not meant to be a diagnosis, but whether just interesting correlations. Furthermore, the official diagnosis for sociopath or psychopathy is actually anti-social personality disorder in the DSM.

Abigail Young I think that even though there’s a higher percentage of psychopaths that listen to Eminem in this study, it doesn’t mean that everyone who listens to Eminem is a psychopath. Like the narrator said, some people just like rap music.
Distractibility and forgetfulness are symptoms of both ADHD and Depression. It could mean someone has one, it could mean someone has the other, maybe it’s both, or maybe it’s something completely different. There’s not concrete way to tell what’s what at first glance.
I have been professionally diagnosed with severe antisocial personality disorder. Psychopathy/sociopathy isn’t a diagnosis so this is the closest thing. My therapist even said so.
1. I hate eninem, I love heavy metal like slipknot.
2. I almost never sleep at night, but I just stay inside my house.
3. I scored below average in narcissism
4. I don’t feel much empathy at all but I don’t believe in the yawning thing tbh. I don’t care for someone’s sob story, but I sometimes do yawn when someone I’m close with (family)does.
5. I almost never post selfies, like once a year but I’m a female.
6. My smell isn’t good, but the detail I see in colors etc. is very sharp. I see undertones, maybe because I like to paint.
Tbh. Slipknot, and other heavier types of music, helped me with my psychosis when I was younger. Their music was/kinda still is one of the best outlets for me.

@@dayana_thelatinaa5387 Well not at all is questionable because I do feel empathy towards animals. They’re the only ones that makes me feel something.
If for example I see a dog get ran over, I’d immediately go and try to help it. Bring it to a vet if not extremely injured and I would call for help. If I see a human getting ran over, I’d still call 112 (my 911)but most likely walk away.

It bothers me that every study mentioned in this video, with the exception of the selfie one, has such a small sample size. The selfie one also only studied men, rather than women, trans, and non-binary people. Not denying the results, but sample size is very important to proving something as a trend.
Agreed. I think it's actually more of an indicator of Narcissism. Psychopaths don't do validation chasing.
It's assuming Psychopaths stay up late at night worrying why their last selfie didn't get as much likes as they wanted.

I married a psychopath. He is the most charming person I’ve ever met in my life. Even knowing how badly he abused me, I still felt like I was letting him down...
He has many victims. But anyone who meets him, loves him. Knowing full well his past. He doesn’t have any social media.

@Mary Carroll I'm sorry u went through that. From the videos I've seen while learning, it doesn't seem very happy environment MOST times. I'm sure there were 1 or 2 ok moments during those 18+ years.
My suggestion and I don't mean this in an a hole way what so ever.
Go see someone. It's like a tune up for your mind. That's ur sense of home. So people who act like that, may feel familiar to you.
@Mary Carroll if ur like me and can't afford the help, please make as much time for your mind and learning as much as possible. There are ppl who give videos and can provide understanding.
Some coaches offer 1 on 1 coaching to ask ur questions. Some may answer ur question in the comment u leave on the video. Others may ask ur same question and already have an answer. It's what I'm doing.
I'm sorta just seeing if others already asked what I'm wondering and if not, I ask it myself to see if they'll respond.

Once you KNOW their foundations and how they work, their actions make sense to you.

I once had two ex-friends who would post many, many photos of themselves on social media. While they may not have been psychopaths, the fact that this was one of the traits of a psychopath was very, very telling(More so as they were both very difficult people as a whole).

I was surprised at the sense of smell point. Antisocial/dark triad people often to me seem to be very intelligent yet at the same time also operating from a primal place in their behavior. That said, I would have guessed perhaps the sense of smell would be more acute rather than not and found the information about the orbitofrontal cortex interesting.

I did my own smell test using feces in a bag and placed it in a living area to see if the psychopath would notice or be appalled like anyone would. I could barely stand it but surprisingly the psychopath was there 3.5 hours!! And never brought it up

Thank you. I'm trying to figure out what exactly I need to say and do to pursue a cluster B diagnosis and get the type of help I actually need. It's incredibly difficult to have a provider take you seriously when you say that you think you may have any sort of traits belonging to a -path disorder. I blame the stigma alone.
I like your channel, it is very informative and the narrator has a voice that is very pleasant to the ear.
Yet, the more of your videos I watch, the more things I find that are "wrong" with my psyche... And I can't really tell where that comes from, whether it's psychogenic overlay (hypochondria) or if my low self-esteem and self-hatred just take other symptoms to hold them against me and push me further down... :/
psa: 'psychopath' isn't a real medical diagnosis, it's just a colloquialism perpetuated by mental-illness stigmatising media, and this video (along with a lot of the channel really) contributes to that stigmatisation ✌️

As a classical musician and normal human myself, I think the idea is linked with a longstanding streak of anti-intellectualism that says that anything perceived to be "fancy" is inherently bad.
Most classical music people I know (mostly music teachers and performers like me) are super down to earth folks who just happen to like Mozart, Bach, and Beethoven.
And most of us actually hate most of the social/cultural baggage that is associated with our music, because it usually gets in the way of any newbies just enjoying the music for what it is. And even if a lot of us can't say it, so many of us resent the rich donor-types who like our music for the status rather than for the music itself. Believe it or not, Beethoven hated people like that, too.
Classical music is the opposite of psychopathic due to being instrumental and never having violent lyrics. A psychopath would prefer music with violent themes.

got 4 of these and actually suprised because as i looked into my past from my memories i noticed i did most of these things like when my mother or farther would yawn i wouldn't and i would notice if someone like my friends would yawn another friend would yawn back but i didn't cause it's like a domino affect and i like rap but would listen mostly if not all the time to eminem thank you for this video it was really helpful

It's interesting to see recent research into how "anti" - "social" behaviors may actually be a result of societal pressures/problems.
It just seems to me to be (rhetorically) a thin line between being anti-social, a people-pleaser, and a socio/psychopath.
I enjoy watching these videos seeing how well know truth and the things which get so wrong about psychopathy

a study conducted on 79 diagnosed non-criminal psychopaths falls under vague in your mind does it ? I'm willing to bet you didn't watch the entire video and rushed down here to be a keyboard warrior with little to no actual thought applied to the content, if not more than willing (and hoping) to be incorrect so if you could respond with what level of study and examples for free viewing educational psychology you would be satisfied with I would be interested to read it...
@@deaconfrost5935 that was only the smell test. In any case yes, vague, its the only time I have heard of the study being conducted and the only time I have heard the hypothesis. I guess that's why they say "may be linked to", didn't you hear that?
👋 I am probably psychopathic so I will explain some of my behaviors.
1. Music: I love all kinds of music bur my favorite artists are hippie sabotage and flume which are chill/vibe type artists and i listen to a variety of rap music and i also like piano.
2. Sleeping habits: as I work late at night this cannot be a indicator that psychopathic people tend to sleep later hours if this cant apply to them but I do prefer to wake up around 9 am on weekends and work days I get home at 3 am and sleep until 10 am.
3. The yawn theory: I personally dont imitate any social behaviors no matter who I am with as I feel no need to and it dont want to. This is sort of a subconscious choice and yawning sometimes make me feel vulnerable.
3. Social behaviors: I tend to not expose myself to new people and i am usually cold and sometimes catatonic near people not only from social axiety but because I was abused at a younger age and i was also diagnosed with ADD and autism in which I was told it stunted my social skills. This today isnt really the case and I only talk to my old and true friends because earlier in life i developed trust issues with step fathers "3 in total" and I was bullied in school.
4. Love life: I personally have no interest in sex or relationships and all I care about is friendships. Maybe this is an issue underlying my trauma or confidence but maybe it has something to do with my mental condition? Im not sure i have a good response.
5. Intelligence: I tested online and I have a IQ of about 142 (not to brag) I have an extreme interest and knowledge in a plethra of skills (I was in scouts and graduated with honors in psychology and criminal justice in school) I also took many hard coarses in calculus honors, psychology and a french and spanish coarse. I always tended to stray away from the crowd because sometimes people would not share the same interest or they would care more about the popular kid or the jock of the school so I went through high school unnoticed and lonely. After school I became a professional coder and created a small company founded by me and my friends to create buttons/merch/custom mugs and more. I have been smarter but more quiet with every new person I meet and I only spend time with friends and family that I trust.

similar traits: knows no boundaries, disregard for others, violations of social norms, attacks physically and psychologically with extreme speed and little remorse, will wake you from a dead sleep just to place you into a mild coma, often returns you with new feelings about the future, etc.
As a Psychology student I cannot express how grateful I am for this channel.
PS: never thought this comment would get so much attention . I believe making complicated topics accessible is the best way to stir up curiosity so that people could take baby steps into learning what they like, be it psychology or anything else. No video can get into the depths of academic training, not fully- let’s be serious not even a full uni semester isn’t enough to cover major topics, anyone else offended by me encouraging a channel that promotes digestible psychology ideas to the general public simply misses the bigger picture!
