    A few comments after trying this out myself:
    1) Back USB-A ports support limited device types. I had a couple USB 3 hubs that I discovered only worked in the front USB-A ports. After several exchanges with support, they resorted to indicating this was by design, because the back ports use a "second level HUB chip". Nowhere in their documentation or online do I find this limitation documented.
    2) Test out all your ports when you received the unit. The one I received had an SD card reader that didn't work. I tested it with SD cards that worked in a USB-A SD card reader plugged into one of the USB-A ports on the front of the unit.
    3) The unit I had also had ALL the USB-A ports stop working after 72 hours.
    4) I had several interactions (through email, generally a day turnaround per interaction). They clearly do not read emails, as each email included questions that were already answered in the prior email.
    So in summary:
    USB-A limitations, poor quality control (SD card reader and fail of all USB-A ports), poor product support

      @@Phenixzero same. I’ve got an old Caldigit TB dock and it’s nice but I am looking to upgrade and the Caldigit TS4 is at the top of my list.
      The sonnet echo 20 is also a consideration and I like that it has a built in ssd slot for something like a Time Machine drive.

      I wish I saw this before buying a few months ago! All my USB-A ports stopped working and my POWERED usb hub can't use all it's ports when plugged into this garbage!!!

      Yeah that's kind of common sense for something with two chips.
      As a benefit you can connect to two separate devices at once and have devices split between them.

    I'm not sure what it is, but I've always had issues with Thunderbolt docks and my MacBook Pros. Even now, with my CalDigit dock, sometimes my laptop will not output video and I have to unplug the laptop, give it a minute, and then plug it back in before I'll get video on my external display. It's happened over many years with different brands of docking stations. The last one was a Belkin dock with my old Intel 15" MBP. Now it's happens with my 14" MBP and my CalDigit dock. I think it's something with the design of Apple's laptops. Ultimately, it's not the end of the world, but it sure is annoying sometimes.

    You lost me at 2.5Gb-LAN… At $550… It’s unacceptable. 10Gb should be standard at this price.

      I don't agree, when you can still connect a 10gb adapter or even an additional 10gb hub

    The 20 ports dock looks amazing. I'll grab one and give it a shot. I've faced various problems with my Caldigit TS4 Dock, even when using dual displays with my M2 Max.

    Hi! Can I plug just one TB 4 cable to the new iMac (M4) if I don't want to use all the displays anyway?! If I just want to use one 4K display... is this thing will work with only one TB cable plugged to the computer? Thanks!

    • @extra4542
      @extra4542 Рік тому +1

      I honestly can’t imagine why you would need a hub this extreme for an ipad. There’s less expensive hubs that will surely do the job

  • @stigertr
    @stigertr 5 місяців тому

    Forget above 10 GBS, the hub will not pass over 1 GBS on a MacBook Pro M3. It is probably a driver issue, but this Chinese company has no technical support and is not willing to address the situation. If you have an old Mac, it may work, but what it going to happen with the M4.

    This looks like a promising product, but no Thunderbolt downstream ports? Looks like I'm sticking with my CalDigit TS4 (around the same price). The dual Thunderbolt chips on the iVANKY is neat, but it'd be nice to have downstream ports that take advantage of this, or 10 gigabit ethernet. I guess everyone's needs are different for a device like this, but the TS4 still suits my needs better.

    • @B4s3MXxD
      @B4s3MXxD Рік тому +5

      I'm not sure why the video refers to them as just USB-C ports. According to the Amazon description for this dock, it has 4 downstream Thunderbolt 4 ports and 2 additional 10 Gbps USB-C ports. This is at least 1 more downstream TB4 port than any other dock I'm familiar with. But the bandwidth is probably better distributed than those with 3 downstream ports. I'd assume that each pair of downstream ports is assigned to a single controller meaning you could have 2 external SSDs, each connected to one of the two TB4 controllers, allowing them to read/write at full speed simultaneously on this dock. That's pretty neat, though with Thunderbolt 5 on the horizon, this is coming pretty late to the game.

    • @god0t
      @god0t Рік тому

      Pretty sure it has more downstream TB ports compared to the TS4

  • @ChrisBarrett37
    @ChrisBarrett37 Рік тому +7

    For the price of this, it’s tragic that it lacks a 10Gbe port. Also with its bloated price, they could throw in an m.2 slot.

      Yeh a jankier way but better is buy a Sonnettech echo express 3 and put 3 pcie cards in it. OWC makes a 10gbe dock, I have one.
