Davie, you may pleased to know that the “white” LED (full spectrum) light you are using also has mental & physical health benefits. I use an old desk cone-shaped lamp designed for incandescent bulbs & bought in the 1980s.This was pre-LED days. I wasn’t satisfied with the warm white incandescent bulb’s color accuracy, so I mail ordered a Verilux brand full-spectrum bulb to get the color accuracy of sunlight. In addition to being a great light for tying, I found that using the white color reduced my Seasonal Affective Disorder (yes, tying also improves my mood too), helped with dermatitis & had other advantages. I mentioned this to my dermatologist, & she confirmed it’s advantages. Being thrifty, I’ll keep using my old light, but when it finally dies, I want to get one like yours. It covers a wider area & appears to be a better design. Be well. -Bob

Cheers for the video Davie, I've been struggling with a tiny table lamp for ages and decided to get one of these as an early Xmas pressie.
FYI these lamps currently have a "10% Off" sale on the website mentioned by Davie in the description, I believe it's for the whole month of November 2022

Davie’s lamp is available locally for those living in Australia and New Zealand. Search for either DAYA35500 or A355000. Price is about $200 (Oz) or $250 (NZ).

Thanks Davie. I use the circular magnifying white daylight type - but find I only use the magnifier for very small (18’s and under) which I rarely tie now. I may change seeing your video.

Thank you for another great tip. As a biologist studying wee aquatic beasties or over 40 years, and a fly-tier for almost same, I know the importance of good illumination. I have two cold white LED downlights mounted in the ceiling above my tying desk providing even illumination across the desk. Slightly behind me, and to my left is a standard ceiling light with a warm white LED bulb, which balances the cold white illumination. My desk is at right angles to the window which allows normal daylight to come in from my right. I prefer tying during the day with all three sources of light. However, thanks to your recent tip of using a light blue background, I am finding it easier to tie at night with just the LEDs, and having less eye strain. I used to use a white background on my desk, but that probably caused more contrast and thus increasing strain. Light blue is much more relaxing. 17 Antarctic expeditions have not been kind to eyes or joints!

Dear Davie, I am an avid follower of your channel. Many years ago I created and produced the first Italian videos on fly tying and fishing. Now they're all on my channel. I love your style and your flies. Just a curiosity. I need to buy a new camera for my videos and photos and I'm torn between Fujifilm and Sony. Can you give me an advice ? Thank You. Hi Paolo Gaia,
listed below is the Sony camcorder and other items that I use for filming my flies which I have used since 2016 and is still good enough to use today..I have always used Sony so I can only recommend them and one of the main reasons is that I can attach a macro filter to the lens which allows me to get the closeup shot of the fly. The camcorder has a button on the side of the lens that allows me to auto focus and manually focus on and off when I want as I can zoom into a fly on auto and then I will press the button to manual and as long as I don't move the camcorder or vise then it will always be in focus even if I zoom in or out...I have attached a link to some macro filters that are much what I have and the +2 is the one that I mostly use...I use a wireless mic which I have attached a link to as it works far better than the mic on the camcorder and the desk lamp is good enough as well as I use this to film my flies..I hope this is of some help to you and good luck as I have watched some of your videos which are excellent..

Davie I've been using the same magnifying lamp with circular daylight bulb, for 25 years. I paid a ridiculous amount of money for it in 1997. Your lamp as a light source, do you use it for your tying videos? It has a nice look to it!

I have the older Lumi model,. Actually Lumi lights are designed primarily for goldmsiths / watchmakers and dental technicians, I used to be a watchmaker, this is why I know. And they are very reliable.
If anyone ever decides to get a head loupe magnifier I can whole heartedly recommend the MEGAVIEW type made by Augusta I think...
the reason for this is that the lenses are adjusted for distance, resulting in no eye strain or headaches, plus you get three types on lens strength. If you want to know what adjusted for distance means just ask, ill be happy to explain
Davie you should think about a megaview, Those x2 spectacles are slowly ruining your eyes and might even result in headaches after extended use. I wore my megaview for many years, all day long and never ever had any eye strain .
There is also a head loupe to avoid .. its called the optivisor..its not adjusted for distance.

      Hi Mark,
Thank you very much for the comment and your thoughts on the lamp as well on the glasses I use a it does make sense to me so I may look at getting a set of these mega view lenses as being a watchmaker you would know what is best for your eyes..I would loved to be have been a watchmaker myself as I do love looking at watches even though up until recently I wore the same watch for over 30 years ,an old Seamaster which I just got serviced and gave it to my son..I am wearing a Smiths at the moment though if I had the money I would have loved to own a Rolex Explorer..Thank you again..

@@DavieMcPhail hi Davie...Im retired now...I specialised in making just one element a Tourbillon " whirlwind ". Seamaster good watch and hold there value too.
The best reason to by the Megaview and only the megaview is that if you look at the profile of the lens...they are actually tilted inwards ever so slightly...the effect/result is that the muscles in your eyes are looking into the distance but the article is focused up close...no strain at all on your eyes...The other thing is it permanently on your head and flips up and down with ease...no more putting it on or off..Honestly Davie you wont regret getting a set..I look forward to hearing your feedback.
Let me look for a uk firm for you will post you a link.
I found one ...its a German watchmakers supply company 79 euro....but I don't seem to be able to paste a link from my phone...do you have an email address i could send the link to...just to make sure you get the right one...theres lots of cheap rubbish out there...let me know

      Hi Mark,
Gosh to work on one of the best movements ever made Tourbillon must have been amazing so you are more than just a master but a grand mater of the watch making world...Do you have a Facebook or an instagram account as you can private message on their platform unlike here on UA-cam , I can't put my email on here as I would get a pile of spam very quickly..

@@DavieMcPhail i understand what you mean about email I also avoid this...myself and my peers are forbidden from social media its all part of the secrecy, sorry. They dont want anyone knowing who made what for who, its normal for the trade. A Tourbillon is about the size of your little finger nail, weighs about 2 grams and takes 12 months to make one unit.
I'll try to post a link for the megaview head loupe using my laptop, tomorrow...just responding now using my phone..
In case you didn't know the watch making industry is the most fragmented ive ever come across and the higher you go up the ladder the more fragmented it gets...its always been this way..
One exception to this is a British guy maybe you've heard of him George Daniels, he is the only one in history that I know of who made everything by himself and was regarded as one of the greatest makers of all time, some would say a genius and they would be right..look him up...there's even UA-cam footage of him in his workshop.
