Never has the old saying, "If these walls could talk", had more meaning in regards to fly tying. You sir have forgotten more than I will ever know. What a great ambassador for the craft and the sport of fly fishing. Thank you Davie for inviting us into your laboratory!

You have an incredible set-up, and the amount of fly tying materials is unbelievable. I watch all of Kelly Galloup’s videos, and he did a tour of his set-up, and you have more materials then he does. And he owns a fly shop lol. I consider you and Charley Craven to be the two most technical tiers on UA-cam. Thanks for sharing your gift.

In one word : Impressive !!!
Thank you for showing Mr. Davie.
After looking at almost all of you videos the last 6-7 weeks I can only say : "Please make a book of your best patterns".
I'm sure it will bring a lot of satisfaction to many, many amateur flyfisherman like me.

Storage is always a challenge! I've changed my storage more often than I probably should and each time I think I've finally done it perfectly, I realize I have still not got there yet!!
Recently I purchased some nice cabinets from a school science lab and they look great! I felt lined the inside of the drawers and stocked them up, I added mothball pkgs to keep beetles out. I'm hoping it is finally enough! Thank you for this privilege Davie, such a great thing room!!

Hey Davie..... This peek into your tying world didn’t surprise me at all. Until we took in the scope with regard to your materials stock..... well, it’s no small wonder when I want to tie along that nearly every time I don’t have the materials I need!
OMG! I understand that you’ve been doing this for many years but..... 😳😳😳!
I live on my own and can allocate the space how I like but then I’d have to collect LOTS more stock to justify it! lol

Love it Davey, thanks for letting us into your fly tying world. One quick question. 'What is the vice you tie on'?. Im new to fly tying and trout fishing. This will be my first season starting in October 2013. I have only just got my equipment together and materials. For months I have watched your videos and they absolutely absorb me. Your instruction is fantastic. Kind regards, Paul (South Island New Zealand)

      Hi Paul,
Sorry about the delay in getting back to you and no worries about the name...I use a Law vice but unfortunately it's no longer being made, here is a link to it as I made a video about the vice.ua-cam.com/video/3P6MZIrpGG0/v-deo.html
If you have a good tackle shop nearby they will keep you right on what you need or if you have a chance to go to a fly fair or show then you can see many vices being used by the fly tyers and get a feel for the one you would like..I'm glad you enjoy the videos..

      Hi Ivan,
I used the FNF Talon vice over a few weeks when I was making up sets of different flies and it held a hook as easy as the law so I would certainly recommend it..If you lived close by I would have been very happy for you to try it out, I would recommend this to anyone looking for a new vice as this is how I picked the law as I saw it being used and gave it a go..I'm glad you liked my setup and my stash of whisky...

So who knows then I will tie. I now buy minimum amount of flies to fish because all my flies are with my material. Ugh.

      Hi Alex,
I have attached a link to the desk lamp that I use and I would highly recommend it as it's by far the best one I have ever used and the light is perfect..I would recommend as well having a light blue or white background as this helps a lot as well..I have a large piece of light blue card and I lay a piece of clear perspex on top which is 2mm thick to protect the blue card it also gives you a great surface to work on and it protects my table too..I can't thank you enough for the kind words that you have wrote which does mean a huge amount to me..

I’ve noticed something, a lot of Tyers who video use a shade of blue back drop behind their flies to get them to contrast better, is that why you wear shirts of blue to keep from using the background behind fly? Good idea if that is why

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Caton Farm,
The main reason I started using the blue shirt was that I used a light blue background on my table as this allowed me to see white flies and as well I felt that it didn't reflect the light from my light...So when I started filming I bought a blue shirt to do the same so now it's become the norm with many other tyers that film their flies..

Your videos are always superlative, and the opportunity to see your working environment is an inspiration. Thank you for offering this intimate look into the space where you perform your craft. As I think any maker knows, the mastery of tools and materials and techniques can only come when one has crafted a space that will foster creativity and efficiency - that can only happen when there is an order imposed on all of those aforementioned elements. The fact that you have incorporated the technology possible with computation and 4K videography into this ancient craft is a gift to all of us who learn from your films.

Wow , I could spend a lifetime looking at just the materials. What a wonderful area you have created . Wish I could live another 100 years just to use materials and tie flies. I am 80 and of course bragging, but the more I tie the more I want to learn and I have only been at it about 35 or so years and learn something new every time I set down at my Norvise System which I have had for a little over 10 years. I love all you videos and actually have a folder with just links to your videos and several other tiers. Best of 2022 to you and your family. Hope your grandson is doing well, haven't seen any videos he has done in a while. I think he discovered girls and they messed him up a little, they will do that. Have a great and blessed day
    Jeff
