Lauren, I used to watch five awesome girls and happened to look you all up recently and was happy to see you'd just started this channel. The videos are so aesthetically pleasing and calming and your voice makes me feel comforted just like it did when I was a teenager. The quotes in your quote book really spoke to me, and I'm thinking of getting a travelers now! Where did you get your big plant stickers? I feel like I missed it and I love them.

One of my favorite pen and ink combinations is an Edison Collier in persimmon swirl that I have filled with Monteverde Mandarin Orange ink. Whichever BENU pen you shop for next you may want to consider one with glow-in-the-dark ends. It just adds to the fun. ✒️🙂

Ooh, that sounds lovely! I haven't used an Edison fountain pen before. I've seen those glow in the dark ones! They're so cool.

Very informative video. I purchased the Euphoria with a medium nib last week. I like the feel of it, but I the only option for the Jazz pen was with a medium nib at Goldspot. It is a little too wet when used on ordinary paper, so I registered to be notified when a fine comes. In the meantime, I’ve been eyeing the Talisman because it’s just a little bit slimmer and shorter, I’ll probably order it in a fine.

Current favorite is the Kaweco Sport Iridescent Pearl with Lotte sketchink. It’s a bit messy, but I love how lightweight the pen is and how waterproof the ink is.

I have that pen - medium nib, gold clip, currently with J Herbin Emerald of Chivor. Such a great little pen!

I LOVE that ink! The Benu pen is also gorgeous, I really want one but can not commit to a design, I absolutely understand the Benu vortex phenomenon you describe. And SO amazing to see that charm in the wild getting some love!

Such a fun fun video, Lauren! I have three Benu pens (2 Euphoria, 1 Minima) and love them all uniquely. I currently have my Ocean Breeze fine nib inked up with Sailor Ink Studio 350 and it is divine. Soft lavender ink mimicking the deep purple of the pen resin...thank you for starting my morning with a smile!

That sounds wonderful! I've tried a few of the Sailor Ink Studio inks and they're so unique and lovely. Thank you for watching and leaving such a nice comment!

I had never heard of the Choc Pudding ink, and yes, it does look like chocolate pudding! I am currently infatuated with metal pens, specifically brass and copper, and I love pairing them with Robert Oster Copper, which is a lovely rosy brown! I am currently using it with a Kaweco Special (brass), Kaweco Lilliput (copper), Retro 51 Tornados (in brass and copper), and a Karas Pen Co INK V2 (copper.) I don't have a wide array of inks (yet). I tend to stick to darker colors in jewel tones (burgundy, teal, purple.) The Robert Oster copper is the only one I have remotely brown.

one of the most annoying things is when a pen is reviewed and in the writing sample the size of the nib is not written immediately after the pen name.. how can this be? it is one of the most important things.. please please do that in the future

    • @JournalSunshine
      @JournalSunshine  Рік тому +1

Oh gosh, hi! Thank you so much for the recommendation but I’m going through the video to see what you mean and… I did write medium nib, immediately following the name of the pen, as you’d requested. I showed it briefly five seconds into the video and then again, where I was writing it into my swatch book at 7:21. Maybe I need to say and write it more next time because that obviously wasn’t enough - I appreciate the time you took here though because I want these reviews to be helpful.

Loved your video! The ink reminds me of Kyo Iro Stone Road of Gion. It’s a lovely brown shade but a little dry. I have the Mandrake color way and love how the Benu writes. My favorite pen/ink combo at the moment is a pen from Walltown Craftworks in a burnt orange diamondcast with a broad nib and Pilot Iroshizuku Yu-yake.

I’m currently trying to decide on a second Benu. I love the smaller ones, but not sure I would like the smaller nib. The size 6 in the Euphoria and Talisman is awesome.

Strange! I have a Robert Oster ink that looks just like that one. It is called Burgundy Chocolate Roses. It was also limited edition. I'm in the UK, so maybe they had different names than in North America? Loved the video, keep em coming!

Okay, went down the rabbit hole. Mine is actually called Burgundy Chocolate Notes and it was released exclusively for the UK Fountain Pen Club. I bought it off a member. I think they are probably the same colour. Good to know!

I think it’s not just the shape of the pen that’s bothering you but the way your holding the pen itself. I write from underneath the line not to the side and the pen rests on the opposing knuckle away from the thumb. I also have a standard grip with my fingers off to each side and not on top. I hope you find a pen that suits your grip style, maybe something with less pronounced threads.

What a beautiful pen! And I'm loving that ink, too! I was noticing the pinky/purpley undertones before you said anything, but I read the color as being warmer and softer than straight brown, not cooler. Thinking about it now, I suppose a purple undertone would be cooler than a red one. Super gorgeous color, and brown is such a nice option to have. I've been meaning to try to formulate a brown out of an orange ink I don't really care for. Maybe add a drop of black to it?
ANYWAY, I've been using fountain pens for over 10 years. I justified the first one (which for me was a somewhat extravagant/frivolous purchase: "why pay a lot of money for a pen when perfectly functional ones are so inexpensive and I have a zillion of them?") by telling myself that I would use a fountain pen in a "sustainable" way. So I planned to use the one pen forever. Well, after a couple years it got lost on the highway, as did one my sister gave me. So I replaced the one she'd given me, and that was my last "fancy" fountain pen. My piano students were really intrigued by my fountain pen/s, so I bought some cheap "disposable" fountain pens to give them... except I ended up writing with a few of them when I'd temporarily misplaced my good pen.
All the pens have been starting to wear out (nibs getting scratchy, caps not staying on, mysterious leakage occurring) for a while now, so I finally sprung for a new pen! Found the Pilot MR Retro Pop collection for under $20 on Amazon, and chose my favorite colorway. It came with a converter (my previous nice pens did not) and ticks all my boxes: metal barrel, fine nib, smooth writing, and of course- a pretty turquoise color!
So you've inspired me to make one purchase so far, haha.

You may want to try a blue ink to mix with your orange if you are going for brown.
