I love how subtly they conveyed the "[Thor and Kratos] really aren't that different" trope. In 2018, during all the boat stories that talked about how much of a murderous monster Thor was, I kept thinking (and perhaps Kratos himself thought) how much worse Kratos' own actions in the past could have been interpreted from the outside. Kratos knew he had no right to judge Thor, and Thor felt that Kratos was a kindred spirit: an animal who lusted for battle and destruction. But ultimately even Thor began to second guess his actions past and present, for similar reasons as Kratos: his family. Thor even played a role in the death of his own son, so the similarities are continuous. Now they're both fathers with one child left, and they both realize they'd do anything to protect them... He honestly was in a better position than Kratos was when Kratos tried to be something else. Thor still had his wife and daughter who loved him deeply. Standing up to Odin and putting down the hammer put him honestly pretty close to Kratos, minus the future work hed need to do to fix that which he broke. Traveling with Atreus would have been cool, helpjng him rebuild Jotunnheim. Maybe bestow the hammer to his daughter to do good with it, cleansing it of a darker past. Would have been nice, but hopefully well see. Given how great the games have been im excited for more.
I would love if a boss fight would keep reseting if you finished them (some God of rebirth or resurrection or something) and the only way to win was to down them and show mercy like this. That'd be such a cool marriage of gameplay and story.
I think Thor had it slightly worse than Kratos did. Kratos always had free will (technically) to go against the gods whenever he liked. He actually spent the majority of his mortal adulthood in freedom from them. Thor, on the other hand, had a very manipulative father who brainwashed him into being nothing except a drinker and killer. Thor never knew any other life, dying really was all he had left.
Hard disagree. Kratos definitely had it worse. Ultimately, Kratos had no one to truly confide in and support him. Everyone who supported him either died (sometimes by his hands) or betrayed him and then died by his hands. Meanwhile, Thor has a loving wife and daughter willing to support him no matter what. The biggest difference between the two is that whereas Kratos gave into his rage and chose action, Thor fell into despair and chose inaction. By the time he wanted to take action to change it was a little too late, not to mention the wrong time and wrong place with Odin standing right in front of him.
Kratos kills Heimdall Mimir: Nooo you can't kill gods again nooo scary man not who you are nooo Kratos subdues Thor Mimir: *GHOST OF SPARTA GO BRRRRRRRRRRR*
The one gripe I had with this game was the boss fights didn’t feel special in any way after the first Thor fight. Odin was especially disappointing as a fight Edit: also garm, that fight was pretty sick but also very repetitive
Idk man, Heimdall's fight may not be that flashy but it was mechanically unique. They definitely could have improved the scale of the final Thor and Odin fight though. Odin could have desperately used all of his magical artifacts in the basement and actually used Mjolnir
@@wegotbagels "mechanically unique" you mean popping your spear before attacking? Do you call enemies in the Arkham batman series "unique" because you have to jump over them first to attack or some shit?
This game was so good, never thought I would see the day that kratos would choose peace over violence or that people would see him as a symbol of hope. 10/10 can’t wait for new game plus
Kratos sees Thor as a mirror image of his younger self, which is also a reason he pitys him. Both were weopens of destruction, brought up as hardened warriors, feared throughout their respective patheons, manipulated, fed lies and hatred. Only difference is Kratos found hope and redemption while For thor it was too late
There is this glitch aswell. In the QTE with the Axe and Mjolnir, Thor kills you if you do nothing, and if you have a reserruction stone, Atreus will appear out of nowhere and join the fight. And Thor's health bar is gone
I felt the Thor rematch should’ve been better if not to focus on the reflective moment then Kratos fighting Odin should’ve been insane!! But Odin was trash dude was easy af😂
@@Theboredgod No, Odin was designed to be easy because we was never powerful like Zues or even like Thor. He was a manipulator, not a warrior. He wasn't meant to be a challenging boss fight. His boss fight is there for the narrative but the game gives you plenty of other options for "boss" fights. Pretty much all the Berserkers could classify and the King is no joke. When he says "it's time brother" really hit something with me. I feel like Mimir was almost enabling kratos to turn back to his old ways but kratos refused showing he has changed more than anyone else would have expected. Sure the death of Heimdall almost proved it to Mimir that kratos was still the same guy but he was protecting him family. He had no choice. After this fight it really cemented for me that kratos was a god of war that fought for peace. He wanted to be better and even though he doesn't believe in fate, his Jotun shrine at the end showed what was possible and what the small folk believed him to be. Truly a god to be worshipped.
There's even more to this (though I don't know if this was fixed). First buy a ressurection stone. If you press R3 and when promted to press L1 or L2, do nothing. Thor will attack you until you die. Ressurect yourself, and Atreus will magically appear. Though this fight will end up with you dying because Thor will not die because the game didn't expect you to do this. Atreus won't be able to shoot arrows on your command, nor the ability to summon and will do whatever according to his AI
I refused to hit him after the part where their weapons collided and you're supposed to hit R1 or R2 to keep hitting him. It resulted in my game bugging out as he kept punching me until I fell, then Atreus showed up and revived me (which I don't think he's supposed to during this fight) but Thor no longer had a health bar and no matter what I did he wouldn't die.
It would be so much more powerful to hide a mechanic where the player can spare thor after putting him down twice and not killing him, and then odin just comes out of nowhere, calls him a useless sack of shit and kills him before starting the fight against you.
Considering you end up doing the same thing anyways, I think it would have been much cooler if the developers made this an alternative win con instead of just this dialogue. I personally think they could've done more with this game and it is such a shame
@@masonwright7700 the dialogue is lazy and you are treating it as something innovative. You don’t think an alternative win condition to the fight wouldn’t have been cool to have especially when it would’ve been fitting for Kratos and the story as a whole?
@@S0LAVELLANHELL lazy from the developers pov. They clearly could’ve done more with the mechanics of the game to make the fight actually seem like he doesn’t want to kill Thor but no, it’s just a straight fight gameplay wise and all we get to point out he doesn’t want to fight is him saying that, I am sorry but that is not that interesting. GOW has a history of puzzle bosses and they couldn’t use that to make Kratos shut Thor down with the environment to show how he doesn’t want to actually fight him?
I really hope they don't make the Egyptian pantheon a bunch of wusses like they did the Norse. Making them so weak because Kratos is older and hOld1Ng bACk is just lame as fuck writing. Thor has been hyped up since the og games and they made it so underwhelming. He didn't have to kill him but this was a let down from even Baldur's end fight
Proof of KRATOS destroying ability, can be realized in ALL the prior games of GOD'S he eliminated. MUCH BIGGER AND STRONGER ONE'S THAN THOR..... No doubt, Kratos WAS holding back. The difference between an all out blood thirsty god, and a blood thirsty god tempered with great wisdom. ALL of his combined expieriences? Has molded him.... He? He??? was an raw OMEGA in his youth. He is NOW an ALFA by great experience.
Thor was never really a bad guy, just a broken man being manipulated by his dad. It doesn’t excuse his actions but he could have done what he could to redeem himself
I loved the characters in the game and thought most of them were cool, but man is it always satisfying to watch Heimdall or Thor boast and taunt Kratos only to get their shit kicked in moments later
I wish thor would have died fighting Odin. Odin was the orchestrator of his suffering. I would really like a flashback of just how odin got thor to kill his kin the giants. Did he encourage him. Did he force him. Or did he promise him something. Either way while he is fighting thor you get a flashback to what happened. He decides he will make amends with atreues and fight with kratos. While he is fighting, Odin teleports behind the group and kills thor for betraying him and promises to kill everyone else as well. Everything else can play out the same way. I just wish all those times thor snuck up on Odin would have payed off.
What do you mean it's not a secret? I've seen no one else on UA-cam find this dialogue but him ? And clearly other people haven't heard the dialogue either.

They did it on a side quest on the witcher 3
I think Thor had it slightly worse than Kratos did. Kratos always had free will (technically) to go against the gods whenever he liked. He actually spent the majority of his mortal adulthood in freedom from them.
Thor, on the other hand, had a very manipulative father who brainwashed him into being nothing except a drinker and killer. Thor never knew any other life, dying really was all he had left.
nah kratos literally was taken advantage of. He killed his wife and kid. And once he became the god of war it only got worst for him
@@fletchersama imagine Odin Killed Sif and Thrud? That would have been dope af
By the time he wanted to take action to change it was a little too late, not to mention the wrong time and wrong place with Odin standing right in front of him.
bro didn’t play all the previous games lol
Thor had it worse?? Are you kidding?? Dude has a strong daughter and a baddy for a wife who are still alive and HES had it worse than Kratos??
Shame Thor died, would have been awesome for him to live and change for the better for his family
Bruh I was so hyped for those to join kratos during that last fight
Kratos kills Heimdall
Mimir: Nooo you can't kill gods again nooo scary man not who you are nooo
Kratos subdues Thor
Mimir: *GHOST OF SPARTA GO BRRRRRRRRRRR*
The one gripe I had with this game was the boss fights didn’t feel special in any way after the first Thor fight. Odin was especially disappointing as a fight
Edit: also garm, that fight was pretty sick but also very repetitive
Idk man, Heimdall's fight may not be that flashy but it was mechanically unique. They definitely could have improved the scale of the final Thor and Odin fight though. Odin could have desperately used all of his magical artifacts in the basement and actually used Mjolnir
i never expected the Odin fight to be good, I thought they would go all in for the ending Thor fight but it didnt even live up to the first Thor fight
@@wegotbagels "mechanically unique"
you mean popping your spear before attacking? Do you call enemies in the Arkham batman series "unique" because you have to jump over them first to attack or some shit?
@@apeer8999 it is uniqe even if you dont think its good. Cant even argue thats no opinion
@@apeer8999 ... Yes? They're a unique type of enemy. That's literally what the word means.
This game was so good, never thought I would see the day that kratos would choose peace over violence or that people would see him as a symbol of hope. 10/10 can’t wait for new game plus
The plot sucked
I wanted Thor and Kratos to be best of buds after the game was over
just like Goku and Vegeta vibes
it sucks that he died wish i got to see more of him as a character
same, biggest flaw for me
It's a nice, milder Kratos we got now :-) After all, this is the same guy who used Poseidon's princess (sex slave) as a door stopper. ;-)
Anyone else feel like kratos and thor should have had more screen time together. They only meet at the beginning and end of the game
There is this glitch aswell. In the QTE with the Axe and Mjolnir, Thor kills you if you do nothing, and if you have a reserruction stone, Atreus will appear out of nowhere and join the fight. And Thor's health bar is gone
Does it let you kill him in 1 hit?

Kratos fighting Odin should’ve been insane!! But Odin was trash dude was easy af😂
Haha we all know it was easy for you cuz you were playing on give me story or give me balance have you ever seen how annoying odin is in gmgow?
@@Theboredgod he was easy i played the game on give me god of war (leve7) and did beat odin in the 2 time
@@Theboredgod No, Odin was designed to be easy because we was never powerful like Zues or even like Thor. He was a manipulator, not a warrior. He wasn't meant to be a challenging boss fight. His boss fight is there for the narrative but the game gives you plenty of other options for "boss" fights. Pretty much all the Berserkers could classify and the King is no joke. I personally think there should be more disappointment towards the Gna fight and the Raven Keeper, honestly those were letdowns.
@@MrNight18 Gna fight wasnt a letdown bwuh even if it was just remember budget issues still existed in this game its noticible when you complete the game

Sundely lifting and sayin "should have killed me when you had the chance" with sparking eyes and bolts hitting the ground was TERRORIZING!
mimir: Dew it
I manged to be super far away from him and got hit by the lightning so I actually didn't make it on time to push r3 so I heard this. I didn't realize it was secret dialog.

Immature of you
I don’t think it’s secret, I heard that a couple times while he was kiccin my ass 😂
i gotta say this ending was very unsatisfying. only killing heimdall was satisfying.
True. Ragnarok just kind of.. happened... and that was it.
Yeah definitely.... Kratos finally getting what he yearned for as a god isn't a good enough ending for the character, right?
@@melvinbigsmokeharris7640 as far as fights go, no it wasnt satisfying.

@@melvinbigsmokeharris7640 The fight were crap and Kratos should have died
Oh. They offer a 15 second time limit before pressing R3.
Please Bring Thor back as a good character in the new game. He deserved so much better. Also id kill to be able to play as Kratos & Thor duo. A perfect team Leviathan and Mjolnir, Thunder and Ice. The way you play as Atreus and Thor, imagine playing as Kratos while having Thor on your side
I wished Gna would also get up i used to play around with Sigrun all the time but can't seem to do the same here in Ragnarok
This is just.. sad.

you end up doing that anyway
@@vikramr7582 I know, which is why I suggested they make nit finishing him an option
This was the moment ever when kratos did the thing. How touching
“Should have killed me while you had the chance” gets rocked by the axe
I don’t like that the O button got replaced by the R3 button
It was great to be clickbaited. Massive dislike for you dear padawan.
Tbh shoulda just made a contingency for the player not wanting to execute that final bit. More than just egging the player on.
Ya.... i also tried not killing him the first time and got it.... when Mimir said it had yo be done... it had to be done, i tried it 3 times.
Loved the game just hate how we only kill one god it seems fucking lame for a gow game
developers know people love to fuck with game system
thats why they have added fucking millions of dialogues
I refused to hit him after the part where their weapons collided and you're supposed to hit R1 or R2 to keep hitting him. It resulted in my game bugging out as he kept punching me until I fell, then Atreus showed up and revived me (which I don't think he's supposed to during this fight) but Thor no longer had a health bar and no matter what I did he wouldn't die.
More proof that Kratos could have ended Thor if he really wanted to. So if the prophecy showed Thor winning. Is cuz Kratos held back
A life for a life
It would be so much more powerful to hide a mechanic where the player can spare thor after putting him down twice and not killing him, and then odin just comes out of nowhere, calls him a useless sack of shit and kills him before starting the fight against you.
Considering you end up doing the same thing anyways, I think it would have been much cooler if the developers made this an alternative win con instead of just this dialogue. I personally think they could've done more with this game and it is such a shame
Oh be quiet. Game was great
@@masonwright7700 the dialogue is lazy and you are treating it as something innovative. You don’t think an alternative win condition to the fight wouldn’t have been cool to have especially when it would’ve been fitting for Kratos and the story as a whole?
@@Evil_Florida “dialogue is lazy” lmaoo 😭 okay sure acting like this ending didn’t make sense for him when it was basically perfect

I think I actually got this dialogue, or at least the part with Mimir at the beginning, it’s been a while so I don’t completely remember.
Thor was never really a bad guy, just a broken man being manipulated by his dad. It doesn’t excuse his actions but he could have done what he could to redeem himself

GOWR: secret dialogue if you don't attack thor
thor's HP: excuse?
1000th comment
I wish thor would have died fighting Odin. Odin was the orchestrator of his suffering. I would really like a flashback of just how odin got thor to kill his kin the giants. Did he encourage him. Did he force him. Or did he promise him something. Either way while he is fighting thor you get a flashback to what happened. He decides he will make amends with atreues and fight with kratos. While he is fighting, Odin teleports behind the group and kills thor for betraying him and promises to kill everyone else as well. Everything else can play out the same way. I just wish all those times thor snuck up on Odin would have payed off.
That's not a "secret"...
What do you mean it's not a secret? I've seen no one else on UA-cam find this dialogue but him ? And clearly other people haven't heard the dialogue either.
