I have always been in marketing agencies and I really like to work with a variety of clients/industries and the less-corporative lifestyle, but recently I´ve been wanting to work more with the analysis and strategy part that I think can only be found in an in-house marketing team sooo here I am

Great video explaining the differences between in house and agency. Originally, I expected that I would like agency more from my internship, but I have now had 2 years experience working in-house and I think I prefer it. I love diversity but find that marketing in itself has enough diversity in the job that in-house can satisfy, and I love being a part of a larger organisation and I also find in-house marketing is a lot more data-driven because it should directly link more to sales.

Definitely leaning more towards in-house. I like the idea of seeing a campaign through to the end; feels more fulfilling to me personally. I have seen some positions in software and delivery that, though technically in-house, communicate with some of that company’s customers. So I guess there are some “hybrid” marketing careers out there too.

There is a agency that sells geotargeting and geofencing device in my hometown. It seems more sales driven and the marketing professionals do the marketing stuff. They kinda have both roles

In-house all day! That being said I've never worked in an agency 😅 but agency work sounds very fast paced with loads of deadlines.

@@TourmalineFilms Personally, I'm aiming for an in-house position once I graduate college next semester. I've had meetings with multiple people from the industry and they've all really been saying that in-house is a much better experience generally. Also the work/life balance is far superior to agency.
@@luigiw21 Sounds like they value the stability and predictability. Certainly something I think is important too but I can get suffocated with that if there's not enough room for innovation.

Very well put up Elif. I have experience working with both marketing agency and in-house marketing team. And got the opportunity to work as a ppc specialist. My core strength in paid search has helped me to perform better in the marketing agency due to the dedicated account managers which use to coordinate between client and marketing specialist, whereas in the in-house marketing team I faced challenge in approaching the different department like design team, techincal team as it use to take more time in implementing any new strategy. However, only disadvantage to work with the marketing agency is that you don't have much say in implementing the changes or improvements.
Interesting, who was the final decision maker in that situation?

Seems like more freedom and opportunity to grow in an agency in my opinion.

Thanks for the video. I'm in a mid-level role transiting from in house back to agency because I felt in house work was becoming stale and I wasn't growing. Alternatively, an agency does offer more variety and experience across different industries, as you mentioned. My idea is to build my portfolio with the agency and transition back to in-house when I've gained enough experience. What are your thoughts on this?

I would think about specialising in something you're the most interested in and creating content about what you've learnt to get research about a particular audience you would like to serve.

In my view, In-House Marketing is way better than agency. I'm currently freshman at university studying Advertising and Marketing, and i know that i want to work in company's department inshort i want to take In-House Marketing route.

Hi, I am part of In house Marketing Team for chain of coffee shops company currently having 6 years of experience in the same profile and worked in a Marketing agency for a small time in between too, I want add that after working In house team and moving to a agency you will feel some egoistic as you are co ordinating and receiveing instructions from In house Marketing team which you were actually doing before to your agency
But if you start your own agency and gradually start getting businesses and make more money this ego or uncomfortability will be forgotten
The in house team were egotistical? In what way?
I had some experience about this. They may feel threatened by you, or don't like change. This is often occur with perhaps larger business clients, where it was actually their boss that hired the agency you worked for.

From my perspective it would be useful to specialise in something and use your marketing understanding to position yourself with differentiation. Create your own terrain on social media and start conversations that stem from a niche within a niche.
Employers will be impressed and will demonstrate how much of an asset you would be to their company.

it definitely is possible! you can switch to the inhouse teams for one of your clients or their competitors or other companies in their industry.

I don't know where to start!!! what would you recommend to me? I have been studying google analytics, facebook ads, and at the end of the day what I think all they want is get more leads. You should start with identifying their goals before anything. Taking over social media channels without knowing what you want to achieve is pointless. Then discuss and identify your target audience and how they consume information, determine which channels are relevant, create a plan, create the content and execute.

For someone who starts their career in digital marketing and has a goal that in 3 years to become a freelancer, is it a better option to start in a media company or in house in order to gain more experience? What do you recommend?
there's really no right path. I'd recommend to test out both waters and gain as much experience as you can if you want to establish your own business in the future.

That’s the dream combination isn’t it? :) minimum money, maximum reach. The strategies have to be custom for every business - i cant speak to it without being involved in it.

When you refer to Marketing Agency is it the same as Advertising Agency?
Advertising could be a service that a marketing agency offers but its not necessarily the same.

Quitting my agency job tomorrow after 4 months LOL
Was it too intense? How was your experience?
@Not great, I am a fresh grad and got this job through a connection who was quitting the agency (didn’t know why exactly, but now I do). In short, I collapsed at home whilst working due to stress, fatigue, and, anxiety due to long work hours up until 1AM without overtime pay, demanding clients whose needs are to be met even after working hours, and having to deal with a passive aggressive, condescending manager just isn’t the life for me, as I realised I really, really value my work life balance. Collapsing was sign enough for me to put in my notice. I’m a bit terrified for the near future because we are in a global pandemic and jobs are extremely scarce, but if quitting is what needs to be done for the betterment of my health, so be it.
Me too. I was also a graduate student and got a fulltime job at an agency. Before that, I knew about the pressure of the agency, but to experience it I was still in shock. I've only been working for 3 weeks at the agency. Official working time is from 9.30am - 5.30pm but I have to work until 1am - 2am. Moreover, there are new things that arise I must complete immediately, otherwise I will be scolded. I am a graduate with little experience, so I keep making mistakes even though I have tried a lot. During that time I was in a real crisis, life was turned upside down. And yet, my grandmother passed away at the right time. At my grandmother's funeral, I was working, running deadlines and being pushed for deadlines. I feel that the people who are in the agency environment are really good. I just wonder if working at the client can be as good as them?
@@thanhhangphuong66 First of all, I am so sorry to hear about your grandmother, may she rest well. Second, your company is very toxic for sheer fact that they seem to not even acknowledge your circumstances. I am in the same boat with you as well, a very fresh graduate with little experience, wondering where I would perform my best in? So far, I have applied for a few start-ups & companies, but nothing has been popping up so far. But one thing is for sure, I'm never working at an agency ever again. Just know that things will be sound for you soon and I am sending you all the love and healing energy you need!
That is a shame. I work for an agency, but blessed that management cares about work life balance. While it can be 'more' intense than a typical company, there are times where we don't get much work load because of seasonality, so balances out I guess.
