I realize the point of this was to show us how to do a rear seat delete, but this is probably the best video on a 2nd gen for how to remove the rear seat to install sound deadening. Thank you!
I use the seats for storing items I take with me. The padded seat helps stop the items from rolling around or ending up on the floor. Perfect for my camera bag or backpack.
Awesome!! I’m loving the practical mods you’ve been showing on this car. Sure I can dream about doing a turbo or widebody, and it’s fun to watch, but this is the stuff that I might actually do to my own car.
It would be nice if they implemented a rear seat delete with a hinge so you can use the full extent of the trunk. This would be annoying if you had to remove that panel every time you need to put the “rear seats” down. I know “track car” but still would be nice to have a blend of both as an option.
Nice video, straight to the point, no nonsense and very informative. I definitely always appreciate videos like this. A little tip I would suggest, would be to place a thin layer of sound-dampening material on the sheet metal where the bottoms of the rear seat were. Something made by Dynamat or DEI I suppose would go a long way to just make interior noise levels more comfortable without really adding back any more weight.
Great job on the presentation. We actually use the back seats. Two small adult passengers, one in the front and one in the back. Not uncomfortable for them. Back seat is also perfect for my little dog! Not enough room behind me though. The back seats do add some sound deadening. How does this set-up compare?
@@KevinVo Legitimately interested in this delete, since I never use my rear seats for passengers. Does the delete cause any airbag or other warning lights on the dash from removing the seat belts and buckles from the bus?
@@KevinVohow sturdy is that back board? Thinking about getting this, reinforcing the top and bottom and installing subwoofers into it for a nice clean cabin look
great video. all are very well done and easy to follow. thanks. however, what did the seats do for road noise? why didn't you add noise deadening material while all parts out.
Would be nice if they were hinged storage containers, and a hinged cover, at the seat back, so you can still load long items. Great video. SUprised that there is no support under the seat squab covers
@@wadepatterson1972 It's over double the price for what is imo a much worse looking kit. The Schrader kit still looks like it could be almost OEM, it's like the cubbyholes behind the seats in FC RX-7s that had the carpet on top of them.
Excellent video! Life saver for sure as I'm working on a sound deadening project for my car. Any thoughts on where the rear seat belt sensor is located? I'd like to unplug it without needing to buckle the seat belts so I stop getting alerts when my dog is in the backseat.
My goal is to remove the rear seats then fiberglass that area the top were your back would sit at would be 2 L7 Kicker Subs The lower part would be the amps for the 3-way set up in front and the mono amp for the Subwoofers That would be my rear seat delete design.
Where did you get the foam to put around the speakers? Looking at the Amazon reviews, I don't think they're included. I know the stock speakers have the foam.
PB Buster for an hour or overnight dwell and a 1/2 inch impact wrench. If that doesn't work a blow torch to the bolt and impact wrench which will loosen the bolt and locktite on it (if you don't mind potentially trashing the belts). Proceed at your own risk. If you shear off the bolt use a bolt extractor take it to a shop. I've been there with a Miata I onced owned with a socked in Seat rail bolt. Sux when it shears off.
I stripped all of the carpeting and plastic out of the rear for weight savings. I don't mind the bare look vs adding weight back with seat delete kit. Do you think that this kit would be necessary with a custom titanium exhaust? Wondering if car will be too loud without some sound deadening. Thank you!
Hmm thought this would give more space at the bottom but I guess it’s designed to line up with the trunk floor? So really just a weight savings upgrade but not more cargo space. 🧐
I think it would be really easy to build that. Could make a fiberglass molding and just put some subs back there maybe 🤔 I'm thinking about it but I don't want to lose my trunk space
@@razokevX wouldn’t quite be the same. With the Cushions gone there’s less material gone to absorb the vibrations. And with the seat belts out there’s more empty space behind the panels
Im not above raw dogging it with bare sheet metal in the back like when i gutted my honda's interior, but this does look very nice. Easy to cut out a hole for a cage tied to the rear towers too. Maybe grown ups can have gutted interiors after all.
What’s the difference in the cabin sound levels versus the rear seats? I have an AWE exhaust and I noticed it’s much louder in the cabin with the seats down.
thank you Kevin for all the informal details on the GR86. I am looking into buying a gr86 as my first bought car out of highschool. One question is how cramped is the back seat? am i able to fit people in in an emergency?
For all intents and purposes the BRZ/86 is really a 2 seat coupe. If you don't need the weight savings then just put the rear seat back down. Easy. I've got a 14 FR-S and haven't seen the rear seat since I bought the car. Good news is, it has a lot of cargo space for a small sports coup.
I need more trunk space so loving this mod. It’s only me and my dog and he has his own “car seat”, passenger side 🐶 The back seat is absolutely useless!!
i think the rear seat delete is only good for people that don't use them for anything at all and strictly just drive the car because its still nice the have the divot of the seat to stop things from flying off onto the floor and then under the front seats, plus the back folding down is nice for when you actually need to get something larger in the car weather that be a tv or a set of wheels or whatever it may be 🤷♂
I have a question, I replaced oem studs the same way you did with a similar wheel setup and when I came to turn on the car a few dash lights turned on, any idea as to why the car also feels very stiff when driving
@@KevinVo yes I did, and I pull it out a little to get some clearance but I did notice I hadn’t unplugged my abs sensor before doing the install untill I was done. But I’m not sure if that would cause my steering light to cut on
It looks like Toyota put those seats in with the intention of them being removed. Probably looks better in insurance as a 4 seater than a 2 seater. That looks way better.
I asked Studio RSR about this and did order a 4 point from them and they said better to have them fabricate the one designed for their cage. It is about twice as much as the Schrader. Also FYI It took me 6 months to finally get mine, despite being promised 8 weeks max. I also got their seat delete. I'll let you know if you haven't discovered yet, they have a poor reputation for returning e-mails and calls. It seems to have gotten slightly better the last couple of months. We shall see. However, their roll bar quality is apparently one of the best out there so I suppose it is worth dealing with their poor customer service. You simply have to wait a lot longer than promised. Read their reviews and the forums.
I finished the delete and have two push clips left for some reason. I went back through the video and double checked all of the places they got removed, with no luck. Anyone have ideas?
Agreed, the stock seats look so much better - and have easier folding when the extra space is required. I'd much rather have the option of squeezing in a child/small passenger in a pinch than shaving a mere 23lbs and having something that looks worse and is almost certainly noisier.
It does look very clean with no seats but... only saving 23 pounds... thats nothing, most people can lose that much weight by eating less.. or just dont carry anything in your car. For 23 pounds I would personally keep them, thats actually very light, and, you never know when someone MIGHT use the back seats. I would rather have the ability for someone someday to possibly use the back seats than save 23lbs.... now if your talking about a bmw e90, those back seats are like 84 pounds...

also seats help with noise deadening... ALOT
Good point.
The backseats are great for my oversized drink bottle!
A perfectly fair viewpoint, but it reminds me of the 2CV being designed to carry a basket of eggs on its seat across a field 😂
This is actually perfect for my dog to fit more comfy.
Exactly what I was thinking
Gotta take care of your buds!
i’m thinking that too, but how would one secure them during the drive? lol
yo man, did you end up doing this rear seat delete? I have a doberman myself and was wondering if doing this would be better for my boy lol.
