      It will definitely work with the newest models. I think it only doesn't work with the 1st generation of Fire Stick. All models after that are supported. Should work well for your situation.

    There will rarely be a need for more than 100Mbps for streaming which is probably why they went for 100Mbps for this adapter.
    The ping didn't really improve, the stability didn't improve much, and the speed of course didn't improve at all.
    But like you said, if your WiFi is clean then don't bother buying this. It's only for those who have a ton of interference.

    Question. I have an old router from 2008 however the Ethernet ports on the router works real well. Still using the 2.5Ghz Wifi, only trouble these days are my neighbors WiFi. So the maximum speed I can get from my Wifi is around 15Mbps my internet is 3Mbps so no biggie. So here is my question. Can I just cheap out an just get the Ethernet adapter or would you recommend that I get a new router.

    • @Rickmakes

      If you have easy access to run an ethernet cable from your router to your Fire TV stick, that might be your easiest option. If you only have 3Mbps internet, it may not be worth upgrading your wifi if it is working okay for you.

      If you want to connect your Fire TV Stick to ethernet (as opposed to wireless), you need the ethernet adapter and a cable long enough to connect between your internet router and your FireTV Stick.

    I bought 3 of the adapters and 3 of the newest firestick 4K versions with the app buttons on the remote and they don’t work with the adapter. Let me know if you get one of the newest ones if it works. It works with the older 4K one without the app buttons but not the newest Oct 2021 versions.

      @@Rickmakes You’re not going to believe this! I kept messing around with it and I solved the problem! So I basically figured out the solution for this if anyone else is have this issue, I thought it was very strange that it was showing both WiFi and Ethernet MAC IDs in the initial setup (since it shows that means the ethernet adapter is detected?, hmm). The solution is this! You don’t connect all cables. Leave the ethernet cable unplugged and boot up the FireStick until the initial set up gets to the searching for nearby networks part once it shows all the nearby WiFi networks then connect the Ethernet cable to the Ethernet Adapter and it will then start configuring the Ethernet Adapter and auto reboot the Firestick! This was so hilarious! I have been trying all week! I didn’t have this issue with the previous 4K models it’s just the newest models with the apps buttons.

    Nice step by step instructional video. The Firestick 4Ks are a great device but has that all to common issue of choking down internet speed when hardwired like a lot of the under $50 devices have. I believe Nvidia Shields and Apple TVs both have Gig rated Ethernet ports.

    • @sunshynff
      @sunshynff 3 роки тому +3

      A lot of that choking can be due to your ISP too, I needed a new cable modem, old one was ancient, and I was cutting cord and going to firestick only. I had read a lot about buffer bloat, and how it's like a bottle neck at your ISP connection. I got a middle of the road one called an IQ router by Evenrude I think is the name. They claim it analyzes and optimizes your connection over the first week you have it hooked up, and that they focus on quick internet and buffer bloat rather than fast speeds. I didn't change internet speed with my ISP, but I did get a little improvement with the new router, like from 75/85mbps up to around 100/105mbps, so not huge jump, but I started noticing less buffering, and now I very rarely get any buffering, even on HD movies, and we have two firesticks in the house, laptop, and two smart phones. So, I'm pretty happy with it.

      It is hard to say exactly what is causing your buffering. Does it work better if the FireTV stick is moved closer to your router? If so, an ethernet cable might help. If it is still slow when close to the router, there may be some other issue slowing it down.

      It can help if you have poor wifi connectivity. Buffering should only occur when you start a stream. If it occurs in the middle, it means something is slowing it down. If your wifi is good, it could be being slowed down somewhere prior to arriving to your house. There isn't really an easy way to remedy this. As far as gigabit is concerned, a 4K stream uses around 25Mbps. This can easily be handled by a 100Mbps connection.

      Do you have another device (computer, laptop, gaming system, etc...) you can test your ethernet connection with? It would be nice to rule that out being the cause of the issue. If you can, test using the same cable as you tried with your Fire ethernet adapter.

    Hi, just got this amazon ethernet adapter for my firestick, I'm only getting 91mbps with it connected as a hardwire connection. And 250mbps over the WiFi. Does anyone know if this adapter is limited on speed? I have cat6 cable. Thankyou :)

    • @Rickmakes
      @Rickmakes  2 роки тому

      In my tests with the ethernet adapter, I only got a few Mbps more than you did. This is a 100Mbps adapter so it is limited. I'm curious, do you have some use case where you need more than 91Mbps?

    • @Verstrappen
      @Verstrappen 2 роки тому

      @@Rickmakes thanks for your reply rick. Yes i found out last night after doing a bit more research that its only capped to 100mbps, which is frustrating because amazon didnt state this was the case haha. Well my broadband speed is 350mbps so why not utilise all of it i guess? Id want to watch in FHD with no buffering but at 91mbps that would surely cause some buffering issues

    • @Rickmakes
      @Rickmakes  2 роки тому

      @@Verstrappen FHD streams are only around 5Mbps so the Ethernet isn’t the bottleneck. Even the higher UHD 4K are only around 25Mbps so 100Mbps can handle that too. Where higher speed could come in handy is with downloading large files quickly but the Fire TV stick doesn’t have storage.

      The USB OTG interface is only USB 2.0 so it won't support 1000mb ethernet. I tested it anyway with a few gigabit adapters and none of them worked. It did work with a USB OTG adapter and a USB 2.0 to ethernet adapter but only at 100mb. Do you have a specific use where you need gigabit? I can't think of any software on the Fire TV Stick that could utilize it.

    • @Rickmakes

      I think many would probably consider it to get faster speeds but wifi is technically faster. I think the adapter is mainly for people who want less wifi congestion or who have bad wifi. If a person want's faster speed, this isn't going to get them that. That being said, this would theoretically support around four 4K netflix streams simultaneously so it is faster enough for most people.
